Background: Timely detection of neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions is crucial for early intervention. Specific Language Impairment (SLI) in children and Parkinson's disease (PD) manifests in speech disturbances that may be exploited for diagnostic screening using recorded speech signals. We were motivated to develop an accurate yet computationally lightweight model for speech-based detection of SLI and PD, employing novel feature engineering techniques to mimic the adaptable dynamic weight assignment network capability of deep learning architectures. Materials and methods: In this research, we have introduced an advanced feature engineering model incorporating a novel feature extraction function, the Factor Lattice Pattern (FLP), which is a quantum-inspired method and uses a superposition-like mechanism, making it dynamic in nature. The FLP encompasses eight distinct patterns, from which the most appropriate pattern was discerned based on the data structure. Through the implementation of the FLP, we automatically extracted signal-specific textural features. Additionally, we developed a new feature engineering model to assess the efficacy of the FLP. This model is self-organizing, producing nine potential results and subsequently choosing the optimal one. Our speech classification framework consists of (1) feature extraction using the proposed FLP and a statistical feature extractor;(2) feature selection employing iterative neighborhood component analysis and an intersection-based feature selector;(3) classification via support vector machine and k-nearest neighbors;and (4) outcome determination using combinational majority voting to select the most favorable results. Results: To validate the classification capabilities of our proposed feature engineering model, designed to automatically detect PD and SLI, we employed three speech datasets of PD and SLI patients. The current analysis employs the improved F-expansion, modified extended tanh, exponential rational function, and (g′)−expansion procedures to find a divergent collection of the fractional Liouville equation's exact solutions in the context of beta-derivative. Also, we have given the graphical representations of the obtained results. These plots are useful in describing the dynamic characteristics of the solutions. The investigated equation is very essential in studying the mechanics of water waves and atmospheric predictability. Therefore, our techniques provide a great help in investigating various nonlinear models formulated in the contexts of fractional derivatives arising from oceanography and mathematical physics. © 2022

Due to the climate change, over the last decades there have been changes in the rhythm of nature. However, there is an increasing social consciousness regarding decarbonization, and governments include new policies and economic support measures for renewables. The participation of the onshore and offshore wind sectors play a central role in this scenario, expecting that more than 6000 GW will be globally installed in 2050. However, the useful life of many wind power plants is coming to their end, and thus, some countries will face in the coming years the decision of repowering, decommissioning, installing new turbines, or a combination of them. In general, such areas with the greatest wind potential are already occupied by relatively old wind turbines. Subsequently, a complex group of factors influences on the best solution decision-making: climatic, technological, environmental, social or economic. This paper proposes an optimized methodology based on multi-criteria decision-making to estimate the most appropriate solution for extending the useful-life of wind power plants. The methodology is divided into three stages: (i) data, (ii) alternatives and (iii) optimization. It was assessed with a Spanish onshore wind power plant connected to the grid. From the initial data, 11 alternatives were designed based on 10 selection factors. The results provide an optimal solution, combining both repowering and installation of new wind turbines. It would allow us to reduce the LCOE of the new wind plants installed in the European Union by more than 50%. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The generative pre-trained transformer (GPT)-based chatbot software ChatGPT possesses excellent natural language processing capabilities but is inadequate for solving arithmetic problems, especially multiplication. Its GPT structure uses a computational graph for multiplication, which has limited accuracy beyond simple multiplication operations. We developed a graph-based multiplication algorithm that emulated human-like numerical operations by incorporating a ×10k operator, where k represents the maximum power to base 10 of the larger of two input numbers. Our proposed algorithm attained 100% accuracy for 1,000,000 large number multiplication tasks, effectively solving the multiplication challenge of GPT-based and other large language models. The finite-difference dynamical core based on the equal-interval latitude-longitude mesh has been widely used for numerical simulations of the Atmospheric General Circulation Model (AGCM). Previous work utilizes different filtering schemes to alleviate the instability problem incurred by the unequal physical spacing at different latitudes, but they all incur high communication and computation overhead and become a scaling bottleneck. This paper proposes a new leap-format finite-difference computing scheme. It generalizes the usual finite-difference format with adaptive wider intervals and is able to maintain the computational stability in the grid updating. Therefore, the costly filtering scheme is eliminated. The new scheme is parallelized with a shifting communication method and implemented with fine communication optimizations based on a 3D decomposition. With the proposed leap-format computation scheme, the communication overhead of the AGCM is significantly reduced and good load balance is exhibited. The simulation results verify the correctness of the new leap-format scheme. The new scheme achieves the speed of 16.6 simulation-year-per-day (SYPD) and up to 3.3x speedup over the latest implementation.

This paper addresses the problem of end-effector formation control for manipulators that are subjected to external disturbances: input disturbance torques and disturbance forces at each end-effector. The disturbances are assumed to be non-vanishing and are superposition of finite number of sinusoidal and step signals. The formation control objective is achieved by assigning virtual springs between end-effectors, by adding damping terms at joints, and by incorporating internal model-based dynamic compensators to counteract the effect of the disturbances;all of which presents a clear physical interpretation of the proposed approach. Communication network architectures have been evolving with increased programmability and virtualization of physical infrastructures. While this evolution enables a faster introduction of new services and efficient utilization of resources, the complexities and interdependencies among the physical and virtual infrastructures, as well as the control and management planes, hinder a complete understanding of the system at hand. It is imperative, therefore, to model and study these evolving virtualized infrastructures. We propose a multilevel virtualized network embedding model and study its performance against correlated failures. Our analysis of multiple synthetic network models identified that grid-like infrastructures capture the realistic Internet2 structure the best.

We present three classes of distributed formation controllers for achieving and maintaining the 2D/3D formation shape of manipulator end-effectors to cope with different scenarios due to availability of modeling parameters. We firstly present a distributed formation controller for manipulators whose system parameters are perfectly known. The formation control objective is achieved by assigning virtual springs between end-effectors and by adding damping terms at joints, which provides a clear physical interpretation of the proposed solution. Subsequently, we extend it to the case where manipulator kinematic and system parameters are not exactly known. An extra integrator and an adaptive estimator are introduced for gravitational compensation and stabilization, respectively. Simulation results with planar manipulators and with seven degree-of-freedom humanoid manipulator arms are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Consider a sensor network consisting of both anchor and non-anchor nodes. We address the following sensor network localization (SNL) problem: given the physical locations of anchor nodes and relative measurements among all nodes, determine the locations of all non-anchor nodes. The solution to the SNL problem is challenging due to its inherent non-convexity. In this paper, the problem takes on the form of a multi-player nonconvex potential game in which canonical duality theory is used to define a complementary dual potential function. After showing the Nash equilibrium (NE) correspondent to the SNL solution, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a stationary point to coincide with the NE. An algorithm is proposed_ to reach the NE and shown to have convergence rate O(1/√k). With the aim of reducing the information exchange within a network, a distributed algorithm for NE seeking is implemented and its global convergence analysis is provided. We built a spatial hybrid system that combines a personal computer (PC) and virtual reality (VR) for visual sensemaking, addressing limitations in both environments. Although VR offers immense potential for interactive data visualization (e.g., large display space and spatial navigation), it can also present challenges such as imprecise interactions and user fatigue. At the same time, a PC offers precise and familiar interactions but has limited display space and interaction modality. Therefore, we iteratively designed a spatial hybrid system (PC+VR) to complement these two environments by enabling seamless switching between PC and VR environments. To evaluate the system's effectiveness and user experience, we compared it to using a single computing environment (i.e., PC-only and VR-only). Our study results (N=18) showed that spatial PC+VR could combine the benefits of both devices to outperform user preference for VR-only without a negative impact on performance from device switching overhead. Finally, we discussed future design implications. © 1995-2012 IEEE.
