The development of IoT devices has allowed to install large amounts of sensors in different environments. Consequently, monitoring small houses and entire buildings has become possible. In addition, buildings are one of the biggest energy consumers, so the monitoring of the energy waste, and its sources, is gaining attention. Human behaviour has been reported as being the main discrepancy source between energy usage simulations and real usage, thus being able to easily monitor such behaviour will bring greater insight in the building usage. In this paper, an IoT sensor network is proposed to model occupancy profiles at room level. Such measurement of users' behaviour along with additional information such as temperature or humidity can be used to develop strategies to save energy, especially regarding heating, ventilating and airconditioning (HVAC) systems. The proposed equipment has been gathering data for some months in a workplace containing several meeting rooms. Four of those rooms were monitored and later analysed to test the validity of the proposed approach. The results show that it is possible to obtain occupancy profiles by using simple IoT equipment. © 2018 IEEE.

This study explores the gamma-ray and neutron shielding properties and mechanical performance of eight Fe-based alloys with varying elemental compositions and densities. Different parameters such as mass attenuation coefficients, linear attenuation coefficients, half-value layer, tenth-value layer, mean free path, fast neutron removal cross-sections, transmission factors were analysed using PHITS and Phy-X/PSD codes. Moreover, elastic modulus values were calculated for each alloy sample. Our results reveal that the S9 alloy, with high density and tungsten contribution, exhibited superior shielding and mechanical properties, achieving the lowest TF, HVL, and TVL values. In contrast, the low-density S1 alloy performed weakest, reflecting its lighter elemental composition. Intermediate alloys like MAR-302 and Cupero-Nickel showed balanced performance, suitable for moderate shielding needs. Strong correlations between elemental compositions, particularly high-Z elements like tungsten and boron, and shielding efficiency were observed. It can be concluded that optimizing elemental composition and density is critical for designing alloys with enhanced multifunctional properties. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

An overview of existing urban software mobile applications of the transport and economic direction is given. A model of a functional rationalizer of consumer behavior is being built. The software model of the functional rationalizer of consumer behavior (SM FRCB) was developed for the first time. PMFRCB allows the user to expand the number of his preferred needs (occupations, activities) during the daily cycle through intelligent recommendations. Also, SM FRCB allows you to optimize needs (activities, activities) at the cost and rate of their use. The SM FRCB is made in Python_3 using the libraries matplotlib, collections, numpy, pyplot, mplot3d. The analysis of consumer behavior before and after using the functional rationalizer model is carried out. The graphical results of a structural analysis of the costs of old and new consumer behavior, analysis of consumer behavior within the boundaries of the theory of possibilities and the model of transport behavior of a resident before and after applying the functional rationalizer model are presented. The prospects of further improving the SM FRCB are considered.

This study investigates the transient magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow and heat and mass transfer over an inclined, radiative, and permeable surface under the influence of viscous dissipation and Ohmic heating in a porous medium. A regular perturbation technique is employed to solve the governing coupled, nonlinear partial differential equations that describe the velocity, temperature, and concentration fields. The analysis focuses on key physical parameters, including the skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number, along with the corresponding field profiles. The results highlight the significant impact of inclination angle, porosity, and thermal radiation on the transport behavior. Specifically, thermal radiation is found to reduce both the temperature distribution and the Nusselt number, indicating a damping effect on thermal transport. Conversely, the presence of a heat source elevates the temperature while enhancing heat transfer. Additionally, the Soret number contributes to an increase in both temperature and solute concentration due to thermal diffusion effects. The findings correspond well with previously published studies. In other words, when the inclined angle, porous parameter, and radiation parameter are not considered, all outcomes closely resemble those of the previously published works. This study offers valuable insights applicable to various industrial processes, including chemical manufacturing and thermal management systems.

The efficiency of a website depends on how usable the UI user interface, (UI) is and how well it is structured. The aim of this research was to try and understand the issues with the Arion System. Arion is the student information system used by Auckland University of technology. We conducted three experimental studies to examine the usability and to improve the user experience of student who use Arion. Three main methods were used namely; survey, open card sorting and situated co-inquiry. The survey was used to inform the study and collect more information about users. The open card sorting used to redesign the navigation menu for the system. Then the Situated co-inquiry used to discover the user's current unexpected or unforeseen ideas, which may be helpful for future research.

As Android operating system and applications on the device play important roles, the security requirements of Android applications increased as well. With the upgrade of Android system, Android runtime mode (ART mode) has gradually become the mainstream architecture of the Android operating system. ART introduces several improvements in Android, but it also introduces new ways to enhance malicious activities. This paper proposed a confidential finer granularity protection scheme for application programs under ART mode of ROOT Android devices. Taking Java method as the protection granularity, the protection scheme increased the accuracy of protecting targets. In addition, the protection scheme provided a more thorough protection for applications by combining dynamic loading technology and encryption technology in ART mode, and improved the security of Android applications. Experiments showed that the proposed protection scheme is effective. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018.

This study investigates the neutron and photon attenuation properties of various Nylon-Based and Non-Nylon-Based Polymers as soft protection materials for space technology and related applications. We analyzed the material densities, mass and linear attenuation coefficients, half-value layers, mean free paths, effective atomic numbers, effective electron densities, fast neutron effective removal cross-sections, and energy absorption buildup factor values of several polymers through PHITS code and other computational tools. Nylon Type 11 (Rilsan) emerged as a standout, offering substantial resistance to neutron radiation, highlighting its potential in sectors where neutron shielding is paramount. Conversely, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), characterized by its unique composition, demonstrated superior gamma-ray attenuation capabilities, making it an attractive option for environments predominantly exposed to gamma radiation. Our results showed that the efficacy of PVC in gamma shielding and Nylon Type 11's (Rilsan) notable neutron attenuation, demonstrating their potential as lightweight and environmentally sustainable alternatives for specific applications where lead's heavy weight poses a challenge. While lead remains superior in gamma shielding due to its high atomic number and density, the tested polymers offer practical advantages in applications requiring weight reduction and environmental considerations. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Prior research revealed that people have strong responses to various vibrotactile patterns acting on the trunk of the body. Moreover, they experienced patterns on the back and around the waist more positively compared to those on the front or mid-front of the body. In this study, we use a vibrotactile vest designed according to Traditional Chinese principles to identify the effect of individual factors in the patterns. We examined variations of duration, overlap, placement and repetition. Our research questions are: 'What influenced peoples' perception of the sensations?' 'How can we design for the wearer with specific sensations in mind?' As an example, we found using actuators with the same placement but varying the ratio between duration and overlap gave wearers' opposing perceived effects. The study of thermophysical, physical-mechanical and acoustic characteristics of coarse continuous basalt fiber in the conditions of influence of operational factors and corrosion environment is carried out. It is shown that obtaining barrier materials with high thermophysical and acoustic properties is possible by creating a porous system in the material with a predetermined textural characteristic of pores of different class, purpose and combination. The influence of the porous system of coarse continuous basalt fiber on the operational properties of flexible heat and sound insulation products and materials has been studied. It is determined that the performance characteristics of flexible thermal insulation materials are in direct proportion to the degree of porosity of the constituent materials and their structural characteristics. Shown that the increase in the operating temperature of these materials, sound and thermal resistance is determined by the chemical and mineralogical composition of the source materials and their structural characteristics. The influence of the mechanism of selective leaching of coarse continuous basalt fibers on their textural characteristics and the zone of operating temperatures is studied.
