Trainbow: a new trusted virtual machine based platform

Currently, with the evolution of virtualization technology, cloud computing mode has become more and more popular. However, people still concern the issues of the runtime integrity and data security of cloud computing platform, as well as the service efficiency on such computing platform. At the same time, according to our knowledge, the design theory of the trusted virtual computing environment and its core system software for such network-based computing platform is at the exploratory stage. In this paper, we believe that efficiency and isolation are the two key proprieties of the trusted virtual computing environment. To guarantee these two proprieties, based on the design principle of splitting, customizing, reconstructing, and isolation-based enhancing to the platform, we introduce TRainbow, a novel trusted virtual computing platform developing by our research *** the two creative mechanisms, that is, capacity flowing amongst VMs and VM-based kernel reconstructing, TRainbow provides great improvements (up to 42%) in service performance and isolated reliable computing environment for Internet-oriented, large-scale, concurrent services.

The impact of indoor environmental quality on tourist accommodation ratings using guest reviews

Guest satisfaction is pivotal for the hospitality industry, yet the role of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) in shaping guest ratings remains inadequately explored. This study addresses this gap by leveraging web-mining, natural language processing and the Three-Factor Theory to analyse guest reviews of Australian hotels and serviced apartments listed on ***. Findings indicate that most IEQ factors—thermal comfort, indoor air quality, luminous environment, acoustics, space, facilities, cleanliness, and layout—function as Basic Factors. While deficiencies in these areas drive dissatisfaction, their adequacy alone does not significantly enhance satisfaction. Notably, exterior view serves as an Excitement Factor in budget accommodations (three stars or below) but transitions to a Basic Factor in luxury settings. Among all IEQ factors, cleanliness, indoor air quality, and acoustics had the strongest negative impacts when underperforming, whereas satisfactory exterior views, cleanliness, and available space positively influenced guest ratings. The COVID-19 pandemic intensified these effects, heightening guest sensitivity to IEQ deficiencies (e.g., poor air quality) while elevating expectations for high-performing attributes like exterior views and available space. Overall, IEQ factors accounted for 32.8 % of customer ratings in budget hotels and 23.9 % in luxury accommodations. The findings underscore the necessity of ensuring satisfactory performance across all IEQ factors, particularly cleanliness and indoor air quality, while strategically enhancing exterior views and spatial configuration to optimize guest satisfaction. These insights provide hospitality managers and policymakers with data-driven guidance for enhancing guest satisfaction and operational resilience in post-pandemic hospitality settings. © 2025 The Author(s)

In this paper we deal with stochastic optimization problems where the data distributions change in response to the decision variables. Traditionally, the study of optimization problems with decision-dependent distributions has assumed either the absence of constraints or fixed constraints. This work considers a more general setting where the constraints can also dynamically adjust in response to changes in the decision variables. Specifically, we consider linear constraints and analyze the effect of decision-dependent distributions in both the objective function and constraints. Firstly, we establish a sufficient condition for the existence of a constrained equilibrium point, at which the distributions remain invariant under retraining. Moreover, we propose and analyze two algorithms: repeated constrained optimization and repeated dual ascent. For each algorithm, we provide sufficient conditions for convergence to the constrained equilibrium point. Furthermore, we explore the relationship between the equilibrium point and the optimal point for the constrained decision-dependent optimization problem. Notably, our results encompass previous findings as special cases when the constraints remain fixed. To show the effectiveness of our theoretical analysis, we provide numerical experiments on both a market problem and a dynamic pricing problem for parking based on real-world data. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

AbFS is a distributed file system that makes it possible to efficiently share the inexpensive devices attached to the commodity computers of a cluster. The implementation of AbFS offers high-performance metadata management by combining hashing and tables in several levels, hierarchical structures and caches, and by combining the attributes and the namespace in the same structure. No additional layers are needed to implement caches because AbFS uses the Linux metadata caches, inode and dentry, to implement them. Along with the description of the proposed implementation for metadata management and the comparison with other implementations, this work provides experimental results to evaluate its performance obtained with a prototype made from scratch at kernel level. AbFS experimental results show that the implementation proposed is capable to manage files and directories with high performance. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

The IMS-Learning Design has been developed to support the creation of reusable and pedagogically neutral learning scenarios and content. Although it is especially suitable for eLearning, there is a lot of interest on using it in higher education blended learning scenarios. However there are some related key issues which must be managed such as cultural bias and the need for expensive human resources to design and develop specification compliant units of learning. They can be addressed by the design of ad-hoc editors supporting concrete learning design units of learning. We suggest some solutions to overcome these limitations, based on our experience designing the user interface of an IMS-LD compliant editor, GDUS+. We also explain our user centering approach, and give some conclusions about the benefits of using IMS-LD. © 2008 IEEE.

Memory Efficient Two-Pass 3D FFT Algorithm for Intel~ Xeon Phi^(TM) Coprocessor

Equipped with 512-bit wide SIMD inst d large numbers of computing cores, the emerging x86-based Intel（R） Many Integrated Core （MIC） architecture ot only high floating-point performance, but also substantial off-chip memory bandwidth. The 3D FFT （three-di fast Fourier transform） is a widely-studied algorithm; however, the conventional algorithm needs to traverse the three times. In each pass, it computes multiple 1D FFTs along one of three dimensions, giving rise to plenty of rided memory accesses. In this paper, we propose a two-pass 3D FFT algorithm, which mainly aims to reduce of explicit data transfer between the memory and the on-chip cache. The main idea is to split one dimension into ensions, and then combine the transform along each sub-dimension with one of the rest dimensions respectively erence in amount of TLB misses resulting from decomposition along different dimensions is analyzed in detail. el parallelism is leveraged on the many-core system for a high degree of parallelism and better data reuse of loc On top of this, a number of optimization techniques, such as memory padding, loop transformation and vectoriz employed in our implementation to further enhance the performance. We evaluate the algorithm on the Intel（R） PhiTM coprocessor 7110P, and achieve a maximum performance of 136 Gflops with 240 threads in offload mode, which ts the vendor-specific Intel（R）MKL library by a factor of up to 2.22X.

The present work describes a reliable improved gradient optical flow estimation system using FPGAs. This structure is based on space-temporal processing and the use of steerable filters. This model can be enhanced using psychophysical and bioinspired properties according to biological vision in order to mimic the singularity and the performance of mammalians. Experimental results and the resources used to analyze the associate customizability of the system are discussed.

Leveraging Ethical Narratives to Enhance LLM-AutoML Generated Machine Learning Models

The growing popularity of generative AI and large language models (LLMs) has sparked innovation alongside debate, particularly around issues of plagiarism and intellectual property law. However, a less-discussed concern is the quality of code generated by these models, which often contains errors and encourages poor programming practices. This paper proposes a novel solution by integrating LLMs with automated machine learning (AutoML). By leveraging AutoML's strengths in hyperparameter tuning and model selection, we present a framework for generating robust and reliable machine learning (ML) algorithms. Our approach incorporates natural language processing (NLP) and natural language understanding (NLU) techniques to interpret chatbot prompts, enabling more accurate and customisable ML model generation through AutoML. To ensure ethical AI practices, we have also introduced a filtering mechanism to address potential biases and enhance accountability. The proposed methodology not only demonstrates practical implementation but also achieves high predictive accuracy, offering a viable solution to current challenges in LLM-based code generation. In summary, this paper introduces a new application of NLP and NLU to extract features from chatbot prompts, feeding them into an AutoML system to generate ML algorithms. This approach is framed within a rigorous ethical framework, addressing concerns of bias and accountability while enhancing the reliability of code generation.

Surface modelling with radial basis functions neural networks using virtual environments

Modelling capabilities of Radial Basis Function Neural Networks (RBFNNs) are very dependent on four main factors: the number of neurons, the central location of each neuron, their associated weights and their widths (radii). In order to model surfaces defined, for example, as y = f(x,z), it is common to use tri-dimensional gaussian functions with centres in the (X,Z) domain. In this scenario, it is very useful to have visual environments where the user can interact with every radial basis function, modify them, inserting and removing them, thus visually attaining an initial configuration as similar as possible to the surface to be approximated. In this way, the user (the novice researcher) can learn how every factor affects the approximation capability of the network, thus gaining important knowledge about how algorithms proposed in the literature tend to improve the approximation accuracy. This paper presents a didactic tool we have developed to facilitate the understanding of surface modelling concepts with ANNs in general and of RBFNNs in particular, with the aid of a virtual environment. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

E-health and e-monitoring have become an increasingly important area during recent years, being the recognition of motion, postures and physical exercises one of the main topics. In this kind of problem is common to work with a huge training data set in a multidimensional space, so feature selection is absolutely necessary. Most works are based on knowledge extraction using features which permit to make decisions about the activity realized, being feature selection the most critical stage. Conventional feature selection procedures based on wrapper methods or 'branch and bound' are highly computationally expensive. In this work, we propose an alternative filter method using a feature-set ranking via a couple of two statistical criteria, which achieves remarkable accuracy rates in the classification process. We demonstrate the usefulness of our method on both laboratory and seminaturalistic activity ambient living datasets for real problems. © 2010 IEEE.
