This paper presents dynamic behaviors of autonomous solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) with AC bus control. Both voltage and frequency control are utilized to achieve load-sharing of the studied SOFC feeding isolated loads. A DC-to-DC converter is connected to the output terminals of the studied SOFC for stabilizing output voltage and current fluctuations under different loading conditions. The PWM inverter connected to the output terminals of the DC-to-DC converter is operated under voltage-controlled mode to regulate the voltage profile across the connected loads. It can be concluded from the simulation results that the proposed voltage and frequency droop controllers of the PWM inverter may operate satisfactory under stand-alone mode.

This paper is dealing with redundant optoelectronic data transmission with special respect to laser channels. The concept of the generalized erasure channel (GEC) is used to determine the probability of undetected error for some binary symmetric and non-symmetric channels protected by appropriate codes. In detail, communication via different binary symmetric channels (BSCs), generalized erasure channels and symmetrized binary non symmetric channels (BNSCs) is investigated. Simple upper bounds are given, relating the new formulas to that one of the BSC Finally the results in connection with an inequality for proper codes are applied to multi wavelength optical transmission through channels generated by semiconductor lasers.

Along with the thorough development and application for Web services, the security of it has taken people¿s attention more and more. While Web services security (WSS) can exchange safe SOAP message and enhance the security of Web services, it will also have certain influence to the performance of Web services. In order to satisfy the security of it , to reduce the performance influence of Web services and to solve both the requester and provider side cannot recognize the security token, in this paper, we aim at proposing a SOAP information registration and security token proxy model for Web services (SIRSTPM). We has carried on the formalizing and verifying of this model. The result of theoretical verification shows this model is secure and effective. This model is helpful for solving the problem between security and performance contradiction as well as the token cannot be recognized by both the requester and the provider.

In this paper, we presented a method to improve structural modeling based on conserved domain clusters and structure-anchored alignments. We first constructed a template library of structural clusters for all conserved sequence domains. Then, for each cluster, we built the profile using the structure and sequence information. Finally we use the profile and structural alignments as anchors to increase the alignment accuracy between a query and its templates. Our preliminary results show that this method can be used for the partial prediction for a majority of known protein sequences with better qualities. Copyright 2007 ACM.

Distributed video-on-demand servers (DVS) are proposed as a solution to the limited streaming capacity and null scalability of large-scale centralized systems. Server interconnection topology plays an important role in video-on-demand systems' performance. This paper presents an analysis of different topologies and their influence over storage management and distribution, delivery policies performance, refusing requests occurrence, network consumption and scalability. To accomplish the proposal study, we have designed a complete simulation framework for DVS systems. Experimental results obtained under different workload conditions allow us to draw two important conclusions: First, a better connectivity implies a lower mean request service distance and lesser network requirements, improving multicast policies efficiency. Second, topology regularity is essential, as it allows a greater traffic balancing and provides more alternative routing paths. The analysis of global results shows that hypercube presents the best trade-off among all the evaluated metrics, providing a gradual and unlimited scalability for the DVS system.

It is well known that space and time complexity is one of the main bottlenecks of supervisor synthesis. The model of a large system is usually too big to be explicitly expressed, owing to composition of local components' models, making supervisor synthesis difficult, if still possible. In this paper, we propose a distributed supervisor synthesis approach, where instead of computing a model of the entire system, a local abstraction of the system with respect to each local component is computed based on weak bisimulation. Then a local supervisor for each component is computed based on the component model and the abstract system model, by using well developed centralized supervisor synthesis approaches. The paper presents the e-learning project and the work until now developed for extending the features of the Italian remote laboratory "G. Savastano" to the academic circles of East Europe, Western Balkan and Mediterranean area. In particular, in the framework of the project "Italian-Croatian remote laboratory distributed on geographic network", the Italian-Croatian collaboration is highlighted. The proposed approach follows EU efforts to implement internal lifelong learning program and influence educational systems of EU partners and neighbor Countries while helping them to overcome problems with their own educational systems and lack of resources. Developed experiments, included in the remote laboratory, give the possibility of achieving practical experience on several fields, while multilingual approach gives the access to such facility to the students coming from different countries. Moreover, the idea of interactively controlled transfer of knowledge and experience offers new opportunities to the remote experiments enabling them to be executed without supervising necessity

Breakthrough-quality scientific discoveries in the new millennium (such as those expected in computation biology and others), along with optimal engineering designs, have created a demand for High-End Computing (HEC) systems with sustained performance requirements at a petaflop scale and beyond. Despite the very pessimistic (if not negative) views on parallel computing systems that have prevailed in 1990s, there seems to be no other viable alternatives for such HEC systems. In this talk, we present a fresh look at the problems facing the design of petascale parallel computing systems. We review several fundamental issues that such HEC parallel computing systems must resolve. These issues include: execution models that support dynamic and adaptive multithreading, fine-grain synchronization, and global name-space and memory consistency. Related issues in parallel programming, dynamic compilation models, and system software design will also be discussed. Present solutions and future direction will be discussed based on (1) application demand (e.g. computation biology and others), (2) the recent trend as demonstrated by the HTMT, HPCS, and the Blue-Gene Cyclops (e.g. Cyclops-64) architectures, and (3) a historical perspective on influential models such as dataflow, along with concepts learned from these models.

The use of loosely coupled vision and its application for computational grids was discussed. A grid was based on standard, open, and general-purpose interfaces and protocols. The interfaces and protocols provide some level of quality of service, in terms of security, throughput, response time, or the coordinated use of different resource types. The results show that grid is not subject to centralized control.
