The software reliability represents one of the most crucial aspects of functional safety. Software is used in almost any electronic systems. When a safety-critical system is considered, it has to be ensured that the software is able to fulfil the minimum safety requirements. If this is not the case, the software will have to be improved until the minimum requirements are fulfilled. Reliability growth models are used to determine the reliability of software. Depending on the area of application one specific model can deliver better prognosis results than another. In this paper, the Test Pattern Generation (TPG) with a new simple hybrid (dynamic and static) compaction technique for combinational logic circuits and systems is presented. Digital systems are implemented nowadays on an advance VLSI technology, which is called Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The test procedure requires a deliberate introduction of faults in the system Under Test (SUT). FPGA circuits and systems are developed and written in Hardware Description Languages (HDLs). In addition, a novel method is also proposed and implemented in order to intentionally inject faults in the Verilog HDL code design of the SUT. It covers all possible fault locations in the SUT. This approach provides high quality compact test vectors and efficient memory utilization in comparison with other state-of-the-art methods. Not only are the hardness of individual faults and the sensitiveness of fault locations determined, but also their effectiveness is proposed in the fault tolerance strategy.

This paper aims to develop a sensor based monitoring and analyzing system for Neuro-Degenerative Disorder patients (NDD); this may consist on SpO2 sensor, Electrophysiological sensors, NIBP, Motion Capture sensors and Eye Monitoring sensor, taking into consideration an acceptable cost for the whole system. Recorded data will be sent to an embedded decision making unit where detection, analysis, classification, prediction and action control will occur. The sensors and the decision making unit will be implemented in a comfortable jacket that doesn't affect the patients' movements and that can be used by several patients with reduced sensor placement alterations. The decision that can be made is creating a stimulus to avoid falling in case of sudden stop while moving, initiating an alarm, sending a notification to a mobile phone application, and/or telemedicine monitoring features. Artificial Neural Networks will be used to classify and predict the abnormal cases where action should be taken, and since the sensors will be continuously recording, it is possible to achieve continuous learning for the ANN as a first phase. Initial models will be defined by testing normal behaviors and some known abnormal behaviors or symptoms related to the electrical activity and other characteristics of the heart, oxygen saturation level, eye activity and body motion.

The software reliability plays an important role nowadays. From year to year the systems become more and more complex. Consequently, the software becomes more and more complex, too and this can cause more software errors. In this paper a new method is introduced, which serves to predict the reliability of software in a better way. Furthermore, the presumption that the hazard rate is constant is rebutted and a more realistic assumption is made. It is demonstrated that by the use of the new approach the prediction of the number of remaining errors is possible in a better way.

Nowadays, many noticeable continues efforts are taken in the vehicle industry to develop robust intelligent systems that control and monitor the vehicles during operational time to lower the side effects of some abnormal conditions such as sliding and spinning; because of their main role in affecting the human safety and the vehicle life-time as well as the costs related to maintenance. Therefore, the importance of manipulating and controlling these special statuses with respect to safety and cost are the main motivations behind conducting this research work. In this paper a conceptual prototype of a safety-related platform for monitoring and recognizing the vehicles states by means of vibration sensors incorporated with incremental rotary encoders is presented. Additionally, the proposed approaches and algorithms to detect the vehicle status based on the captured sensory data are also presented.
