Models of quantum systems on curved space-times lack sufficient experimental verification. Some speculative theories suggest that quantum properties, such as entanglement, may exhibit entirely different behavior to purely classical systems. By measuring this effect or lack thereof, we can test the hypotheses behind several such models. For instance, as predicted by Ralph and coworkers [T C Ralph, G J Milburn, and T Downes, Phys. Rev. A, 79(2):22121, 2009;T C Ralph and J Pienaar, New Journal of Physics, 16(8):85008, 2014], a bipartite entangled system could decohere if each particle traversed through a different gravitational field gradient. We propose to study this effect in a ground to space uplink scenario. We extend the above theoretical predictions of Ralph and coworkers and discuss the scientific consequences of detecting/failing to detect the predicted gravitational decoherence. We present a detailed mission design of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Space QUEST (Space - Quantum Entanglement Space Test) mission, and study the feasibility of the mission scheme. The KM3NeT research infrastructure being built at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea will host water-Cherenkov telescopes for the detection of cosmic neutrinos. The neutrino telescopes will consist of large volume three-dimensional grids of optical modules to detect the Cherenkov light from charged particles produced by neutrino-induced interactions. Each optical module houses 31 3-inch photomultiplier tubes, instrumentation for calibration of the photomultiplier signal and positioning of the optical module and all associated electronics boards. By design, the total electrical power consumption of an optical module has been capped at seven watts. This paper presents an overview of the front-end and readout electronics system inside the optical module, which has been designed for a 1 ns synchronization between the clocks of all optical modules in the grid during a life time of at least 20 years. A lot of Not Only SQL (NoSQL) databases have been proposed in the era of big data. Distributed Ordered Table (DOT) is one kind of No SQL database that has attracted lots of attention. It horizontally partitions table into regions and distributes regions to region servers according to the keys. Multi-Dimensional Range Query (MDRQ) is a common operation over DOTs. Many indexing techniques have been proposed to improve the performance of MDRQ, but they cannot guarantee high performance on both insert and flexible MDRQ at the same time. In this paper, we propose a novel indexing technique named LC Index, short for Local and Clustering Index, to solve this issue. Experimental results confirm that LC Index can achieve high performance on both insert operations and flexible MDRQ.

Data volume grows dramatically in the era of big data. To save capital cost on storage hardware, datacenters currently prefer using erasure coding rather than simply replication to resist data loss. Erasure coding can provide equivalent three-way fault tolerance to HDFS's default three replication mechanism but degrades data availability for task scheduling. In an erasure-coded system, data reconstruction time will be paid while tasks access the missing blocks during MapReduce job processing. Tasks' accessing corrupt data introduces task stragglers and degrades resource utilization. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel mechanism, Dominoes, that coordinates lightweight data states checking and job scheduling to hide such recovery penalty during job processing and enhances job throughputs. The experimental results confirm Dominoes' effectiveness and efficiency that improves job throughput by 9% to 9.7% under failure at an overhead of 2.6% for failure-free jobs.

Customer service improvement is directly related with organizational standards and productivity. Employees activities have certain objectives to be followed but sometimes outcomes are different than expected. Human error while performing regular job activities cause sufficient losses and difficult to address. Management faces real challenges while dealing with employee related issues and sometimes becomes unproductive. We propose Brahms Model with multi layered alert filtration and feedback cycle which would address the human error in the system and generate the filtered alerts in the form of sms or by emails. This is especially useful for Human-computer Interfacing (HCI) Scenarios. Controlling human error and addressing real issues may protect any institution from severe damage and losses. Efficiency of a customer service department can be improved and maximized by multi-layered alert filtration system using Brahms Model.

Recently, distance-based exponential probability models have demonstrated their validity in the context of estimation of distribution algorithms when solving permutationbased combinatorial optimisation problems. However, despite their successful performance, some of these models are unimodal, and, therefore, they might not be flexible enough to model the different modalities that may be represented in heterogeneous populations. In this paper, we address the particular case of the Generalized Mallows models under the Cayley distance, and propose mixtures of these models in the context of estimation of distribution algorithms. In order to evaluate their competitiveness, we considered the quadratic assignment problem as a case of study, and conducted experiments over a set of 90 instances for four different configurations of mixtures. Results reveal that the EDA with mixtures is able to outperform the Generalized Mallows EDA, especially in large instances.

This paper presents a solar energy harvesting (EH) system to power a portable compact LED lamp, which can be charged during daytime and used to light during night time. The solar lamp consists of three PV panels, an EH and power management circuit, three NiMH rechargeable batteries, and an LED. A commercial off-the-shelf chip TI BQ25504 is used to prototype the EH and power management circuit for the proposed system. Experimental results show that the proposed PVsystem can harvest solar energy both in indoor and outdoor environments. The peak net power harvested by the proposed system is about 380 mW on a sunny day, 250 mW on a partly cloudy day, and 30 mW on a cloudy day.

There are two simultaneous transformative changes occuring in Education: the use of mobile and tablet devices for accessing educational content, and the rise of the MOOCs. Happening independently and in parallel are significant advances in interaction technologies through smartphones and tablets, and the rise in the use of social-media and social-network analytics in several domains. Given the extent of personal context that is available on the mobile device, how can the education experience be personalised, made social, and tailored to the cultural context of the learner? The goal of this proposal is twofold: (a) To understand the usage, and student behaviour in this new environment (MOOCS and mobile devices) and (b) To design experiments and implement them to make these new tools more effective by tailoring them to the individual student's personal, social and cultural settings and preferences.

Designing and evaluating interactive systems for users with multiple disabilities is a challenge due to their cognitive, sensory, physical and behavioral conditions. Vibrotactile interfaces to motivate users' actions exist for users with hearing and sight impairments, but there are hardly any for users with multiple disabilities. We developed V-Sense, a vibrotactile interface that encourages children with multiple disabilities to move their arms by using vibrations and exploiting the saltation perceptual illusion. In this paper we describe our initial experience evaluating the interface with 5 children for 7 weeks and we discuss the first insights concerning the use of the interface and the difficulties encountered while conducting the evaluation sessions.

Memory Efficient Two-Pass 3D FFT Algorithm for Intel~ Xeon Phi^(TM) Coprocessor

Equipped with 512-bit wide SIMD inst d large numbers of computing cores, the emerging x86-based Intel（R） Many Integrated Core （MIC） architecture ot only high floating-point performance, but also substantial off-chip memory bandwidth. The 3D FFT （three-di fast Fourier transform） is a widely-studied algorithm; however, the conventional algorithm needs to traverse the three times. In each pass, it computes multiple 1D FFTs along one of three dimensions, giving rise to plenty of rided memory accesses. In this paper, we propose a two-pass 3D FFT algorithm, which mainly aims to reduce of explicit data transfer between the memory and the on-chip cache. The main idea is to split one dimension into ensions, and then combine the transform along each sub-dimension with one of the rest dimensions respectively erence in amount of TLB misses resulting from decomposition along different dimensions is analyzed in detail. el parallelism is leveraged on the many-core system for a high degree of parallelism and better data reuse of loc On top of this, a number of optimization techniques, such as memory padding, loop transformation and vectoriz employed in our implementation to further enhance the performance. We evaluate the algorithm on the Intel（R） PhiTM coprocessor 7110P, and achieve a maximum performance of 136 Gflops with 240 threads in offload mode, which ts the vendor-specific Intel（R）MKL library by a factor of up to 2.22X.
