Boosting the Restoring Performance of Deduplication Data by Classifying Backup Metadata

Restoring data is the main purpose of data backup in storage systems. The fragmentation issue, caused by physically scattering logically continuous data across a variety of disk locations, poses a negative impact on the restoring performance of a deduplication system. Rewriting algorithms are used to alleviate the fragmentation problem by improving the restoring speed of a deduplication system. However, rewriting methods give birth to a big sacrifice in terms of deduplication ratio, leading to a huge storage space waste. Furthermore, traditional backup approaches treat file metadata and chunk metadata as the same, which causes frequent on-disk metadata accesses. In this article, we start by analyzing storage characteristics of backup metadata. An intriguing finding shows that with 10 million files, the file metadata merely takes up approximately 340 MB. Motivated by this finding, we propose a Classified-Metadata based Restoring method (CMR) that classifies backup metadata into file metadata and chunk metadata. Because the file metadata merely takes up a meager amount of space, CMR maintains all file metadata in memory, whereas chunk metadata are aggressively prefetched to memory in a greedy manner. A deduplication system with CMR in place exhibits three salient features: (i) It avoids rewriting algorithms' additional overhead by reducing the number of disk reads in a restoring process, (ii) it increases the restoring throughput without sacrificing the deduplication ratio, and (iii) it thoroughly leverages the hardware resources to boost the restoring performance. To quantitatively evaluate the performance of CMR, we compare our CMR against two state-of-the-art approaches, namely, a history-aware rewriting method (HAR) and a context-based rewriting scheme (CAP). The experimental results show that compared to HAR and CAP, CMR reduces the restoring time by 27.2% and 29.3%, respectively. In this research, two experiments were performed to develop a noncontact measurement method for flow velocity in nasal breathing. On the basis of the results of our preliminary study, we first compared the instantaneous flow velocity of nasal breathing and the air temperature of inhalation and exhalation. Next, we compared the air temperature and the nasal regions on facial thermal images. Results showed that the correlation between flow velocity, air temperature, and the nasal region can be improved using a smoothing filter and our modified normalization procedure. © 2022 IEEE.

Integration processes involve Business Constraints and Service Level Agreements that, with current technology, are not monitored or enforced automatically at run–time. This approach leaves the participants with no means of supervising the development of their interactions or of collecting indisputable evidence to ease the resolution of disputes that can potentially emerge. In this paper, to address the issue, we suggest the inclusion of smart contracts in integration processes to supervise and mediate, at run–time, the agreements to which the participants commit. We discuss the requirements that smart contracts for integration processes need to meet and the challenges involved in writing, executing, deploying, and verifying them. © 2022 CIbSE 2022 - XXV Ibero-American Conference on Software Engineering. Several languages have been developed for writing smart contracts for specific domains, such as health, finance, and business processes. However, none of them includes the constructors needed for writing smart contracts used in application integration processes which have their own particularities. Such smart contracts are responsible for monitoring the communication between the process and the applications to guarantee that the rights of the parties involved in the integration process are observed. To cover the gap, this paper discusses a domain-specific language for writing smart contracts in the application integration domain. It provides constructors to write smart contracts with a level of abstraction close to the natural language used in conventional contracts. © 2022 CIbSE 2022 - XXV Ibero-American Conference on Software Engineering. The intensive flow of personal data associated with the trend of computerizing aspects of people’s diversity in their daily lives is associated with issues concerning not only people protection and their trust in new technologies, but also bias in the analysis of data and problems in their management and reuse. Faced with a complex problem, the strategies adopted, including technologies and services, often focus on individual aspects, which are difficult to integrate into a broader framework, which can be of effective support for researchers and developers. The paper deals with the issues of metamerism in multimedia and telecommunication paths. Attention is focused on the end devices of the end-To-end path. A comparison is made in the assessments using traditional coordinate systems for representing colors, and in the coordinates of modern color models CAM16, CAM20u, ZCAM. Numerical differences in the obtained data are shown under the same input conditions. Statistical data of metamer estimates using Mac Adam ellipses are presented. A study was conducted in the work, showing that the spectral compositions of colors can be perceived as one color (based on McAdam's data), but when processed, their number can be different. Based on research, we can say that the differences can reach to 15%. When processing ZCAM models, the number of colors taken into account during transmission will be greater, which makes it possible to reduce the degree of influence of metamerism on color reproduction. © 2022 IEEE.

The Norway lobster,Nephrops norvegicus,is one of the main commercial crustacean fisheries in *** abundance of Nephrops norvegicus stocks is assessed based on identifying and counting the burrows where they live from underwater videos collected by camera systems mounted on *** Spanish Oceanographic Institute(IEO)andMarine Institute Ireland(MIIreland)conducts annual underwater television surveys(UWTV)to estimate the total abundance of Nephrops within the specified area,with a coefficient of variation(CV)or relative standard error of less than 20%.Currently,the identification and counting of the Nephrops burrows are carried out manually by the marine *** is quite a time-consuming *** a solution,we propose an automated system based on deep neural networks that automatically detects and counts the Nephrops burrows in video footage with high *** proposed system introduces a deep-learning-based automated way to identify and classify the Nephrops *** research work uses the current state-of-the-art Faster RCNN models Inceptionv2 and MobileNetv2 for object detection and *** conduct experiments on two data sets,namely,the Smalls Nephrops survey(FU 22)and Cadiz Nephrops survey(FU 30),collected by Marine Institute Ireland and Spanish Oceanographic Institute,*** the results,we observe that the Inception model achieved a higher precision and recall rate than *** best mean Average Precision(mAP)recorded by the Inception model is 81.61%compared to MobileNet,which achieves the best mAP of 75.12%.

This study, conducted in the context of railway subgrade construction, focuses on quality control and explores an effective method by developing a simulation model and a real-time optimization algorithm. A real-time optimization algorithm was initially utilized to optimize the compaction scheme based on Intelligent Compaction (IC) technology. Subsequently, a comprehensive construction simulation process was established, defining features such as entity arrival patterns, service modes, queueing rules, and service processes, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the simulation process. Simulation experiments were then conducted to determine the globally optimal compaction construction scheme. Comparison with the original construction scheme revealed that the optimal compaction scheme met quality requirements and improved construction efficiency by nearly 11.4%. Additionally, it facilitated synergistic operations with other construction activities. Thus, this study's quality control method offers a scientific and efficient management tool and decision-making basis for railway subgrade construction, possessing significant practical and promotional value. © 2024, The Authors.
