In Community question answering (QA) sites, malicious users may provide deceptive answers to promote their products or services. It is important to identify and filter out these deceptive answers. In this paper, we first solve this problem with the traditional supervised learning methods. Two kinds of features, including textual and contextual features, are investigated for this task. We further propose to exploit the user relationships to identify the deceptive answers, based on the hypothesis that similar users will have similar behaviors to post deceptive or authentic answers. To measure the user similarity, we propose a new user preference graph based on the answer preference expressed by users, such as "helpful" voting and "best answer" selection. The user preference graph is incorporated into traditional supervised learning framework with the graph regularization technique. The experiment results demonstrate that the user preference graph can indeed help improve the performance of deceptive answer prediction. © 2013 Association for Computational Linguistics.

The exponential data growth is presenting challenges to traditional storage systems. Component-based cluster storage systems, due to their high scalability, are becoming the architecture of next generation storage systems. Cluster storage systems often use data replication to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and load balance. However, this kind of data replication not only consumes a large amount of storage resources, but also generates more energy consumption. This paper presents a power-aware data replication strategy by leveraging data access behavior. This strategy uses 80/20 rule (80% of the data accesses often go to 20% of the storage space) to replicate only a small amount of frequently accessed data. Furthermore, the storage nodes are divided into a hot node set and a cold node set. Hot nodes, which store a small amount of hot data copies, are always in an active state to guarantee the QoS of the system. The cold nodes which store a large number of infrequently accessed cold data, are placed in a low power state, thus reducing the energy consumption of the cluster storage system. The experimental results show that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the resource and energy consumption of the system, while ensuring the system performance. © 2013 IEEE.

The improvement designs for the model-free learning adaptive control (MFLAC) based on multi-innovation (MI) and chaotic genetic algorithms (CGA) are presented in this paper. The application of MI and CGA are to overcome the limitation of the conventional MFLAC design, which cannot guarantee the satisfactory control performance when the controlled system has the characteristic of strong time-varied nonlinearity. Numerical results for the different nonlinear systems are shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the improved designs. © 2013 ICIC International.

In this paper, we address the column-based low-rank matrix approximation problem using a novel parallel approach. Our approach is based on the divide-and-combine idea. We first perform column selection on submatrices of an original data matrix in parallel, and then combine the selected columns into the final output. Our approach enjoys a theoretical relative-error upper bound. In addition, our column-based low-rank approximation partitions data in a deterministic way and makes no assumptions about matrix coherence. Compared with other traditional methods, our approach is scalable on largescale matrices. Finally, experiments on both simulated and real world data show that our approach is both efficient and effective.

Aiming at a quantitative understanding of basic aspects of pedestrian dynamics, extensive and high-accuracy measurements of real-life pedestrian trajectories have been performed. A measurement strategy based on Microsoft Kinect TM has been used. Specifically, more than 100.000 pedestrians have been tracked while walking along a trafficked corridor at the Eindhoven university of technology, The Netherlands. The obtained trajectories have been analyzed as ensemble data. The main result consists of a statistical descriptions of pedestrian characteristic kinematic quantities such as positions and fundamental diagrams, possibly conditioned to the local crowd flow (e.g. co-flow or counter-flow).

Social networks are becoming increasingly popular and influential,and users are frequently registered on multiple networks simultaneously,in many cases leaving large quantities of personal information on each *** is also a trend towards the personalization of web applications;to do this,the applications need to acquire information about the particular *** maximise the use of the various sets of user information distributed on the web,this paper proposes a method to support the reuse and sharing of user profiles by different applications,and is based on user profile *** realize this goal,the initial task is user identification,and this forms the focus of the current paper.A new user identification method based on Multiple Attribute Decision Making(MADM) is described in which a subjective weight-directed objective weighting,which is obtained from the Similarity Weight method,is proposed to determine the relative weights of the common *** Synthetic Evaluation is used to determine the equivalence of *** results show that the method is both feasible and effective despite the incompleteness of the candidate user dataset.

Logging users' physical context through the sensors of mobile devices and the abilities to track users' online behavior has increasingly evolved. In this poster abstract we will present a work in progress in understanding how various stakeholders can be connected through context logging technologies, and the underlying motivations. We will (1) describe the general components and information flow of context logging systems, (2) frame the primary stakeholders from the context logging point of view, (3) discuss the application areas through the different stakeholders and their goals for applying context logging. Moreover, we will present ContextLogger3, a context-logging tool that combines automatically acquired sensor and mobile activity data and manually user created textual notes. We conclude by suggesting that designers should systematically consider implementing affordances for fostering design conversation between the users that log/are logged and the other stakeholders. We also suggest considering affordances that enable users to have manual control on context logging to narrow the gap between the realities represented by the automatic context logging and those perceived by the user. © 2013 Authors.

A measurement of the Higgs boson mass is presented based on the combined data samples of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in the H→γγ and H→ZZ→4ℓ decay channels. The results are obtained from a simultaneous fit to the reconstructed invariant mass peaks in the two channels and for the two experiments. The measured masses from the individual channels and the two experiments are found to be consistent among themselves. The combined measured mass of the Higgs boson is mH=125.09±0.21 (stat)±0.11 (syst) GeV.

Based on nonlinear finite element method (FEM), the effect of back berm has been systematically studied. It is found that the lateral displacement of embankment could be reduced by back berm effectively, and the stability of embankment increased rapidly with the width of back berm enlarged. There is a critical value of width of back berm, that the stability of embankment is no more increased with the width of back berm enlarged than critical value. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Effective design of shared mediated spaces, information and connectedness requires theory and practice from a range of disciplines such as found in European projects like Together Anywhere, Together Anytime (TA2) and the EIT ICT Labs Mediating Presence activity. Building on this work we continue to investigate the changes in the European digital media industry such as changed traditional distribution of media content and the progressive integration of (social) communication means in information distribution and shared mediated spaces. Our past research has given valuable insights in how to design and evaluate systems and services that provide a high quality of experience, in how trust is established in mediated environments, and how the formation of tacit communication between participants in new distributed and connected media is negotiated. In the new Seventh Framework Program project COnnected Media and Presence from European Institute of technology (COMPEIT) we aim to enhance the quality of experience in face-to-face and broadcast communication further in three domains: 1) Spatial connectedness, 2) Social connectedness and 3) Information connectedness, by developing three key services: Shared Experience with Tangible Interaction (SETI);Broadcast Presence Studio (BPS) and Mixed-Reality Interaction (MRI). The quality of experience of these services will be enhanced in terms of for example: spatial connectedness, by providing shared spaces and supporting spatial features such as eye contact;social connectedness, by using natural means for interaction suiting different settings and activities;and information connectedness, by providing better means to share, manipulate and use information suiting different task or activities. In this paper we will discuss the background of this work and give an overview of our planned future work in COMPEIT. © 2013 ACM.
