Active ageing, through a balanced combination of leisure and social interaction with continued work involvement, is central to meeting older citizens expectations, and maintaining their mental and physical health. Application of the collaborative networks paradigm, and the new generation of collaboration-support platforms and tools, can offer a promising approach to supporting active ageing, and can facilitate better use of the talents and potential of retired or retiring senior professionals. This paper introduces the results of a roadmapping initiative addressing the implementation of a new vision for extending professional active life. To support this vision, a strategic research plan for the development of a new digital ecosystem, covering the social, organizational, and technological perspectives, is proposed. A large number of stakeholders coming from different backgrounds have contributed to the design and validation of this roadmap.

Modern compilers use machine learning to find from their prior experience useful heuristics for new programs encountered in order to accelerate the optimization process. However, prior experience might not be applicable for outlier programs with unfamiliar code features. This paper presents a Reverse K-nearest neighbor (RKNN) algorithm based approach for outlier detection. The compiler can therefore launch a search within an optimization space when outlier programs are encountered, or directly apply its experience to non-outliers. Preliminary experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

The generating rule method is presented for incompatible and incomplete information of test data based on Bayesian theory. Firstly, the rule's conditional probability is calculated when the certainty (reliability) of the test data is the prior probability and the samples (supportability) is posterior probability. Then, Those rules whose conditional probability is bigger than a given threshold value should be preserved. Lastly, the rule is generated by logic conjunction and disjunction of all the preserved rules. The example and application analysis indicate that the algorithm is clear, the calculating process is simple and it can be easily applied to computer programs, moreover, this method can avoid the knowledge distortion and the rule losing to the maximum for generating rule. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a class of biorthogonal vector wavelet packets for vector-valued multivariate function space, which are generalizations of univariate wavelet packets. A procedure for constructing a class of biorthogonal vector wavelet packets in higher dimensions is presented and their biorthogonality property is characterized by virtue of matrix theory, time-frequency analysis method. Three biorthogonality formulas regarding these wavelet packets are derived. Moreover, it is shown how to gain new Riesz bases of space $L^2(R^3,C^{u})$ from these wavelet packets.

This paper deals with the partial target coverage (PTC) problem in wireless sensor networks with the objective of optimizing network lifetime. We first build a linear programming formulation, which takes total time a sensor spends on covering some targets into consideration, in order to obtain a lifetime upper bound. Then, based on the information of this formulation, we develop a sensor assignment algorithm to seek an optimal time table meeting the lifetime upper bound. A formal proof of optimality is given. We compare the proposed algorithm with a state-of-the-art algorithm: column generation approach and show that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms in terms of computational time. Experiments have been conducted to study the effect of network parameters on network lifetime and interesting insights have been offered.

An approach to extracting building objects in natural images

A new approach to extract building objects was proposed. Firstly, rival penalized competitive learning(RPCL) algorithm was used to improve segmentation granularity of super-pixel algorithm based on graph theory;Secondly, the spatial envelope was used to classify the image patches using support vector machine (SVM) classifier, and distinguish building and non-building category in the image;Finally, building hypothesis in the image was verified based on structure of the building category. The experiments show on standard dataset that the proposed algorithm outperforms other similar algorithms on building extraction, and also meet the real-time requirements in general application.

Disturbance fields in the coal mineral well give a so serious problem on the work of general electric investigation that sometime process of observing useful signal cannot be finished. For extracting weak effective signals from strong disturbance field in coal mineral well, original measured signals are decomposed by wavelet transform and Mallet algorithm, and the weak effective signals are extracted successfully. Experimental results show that the approach method is feasible and efficient. © 2010 IEEE.

The elderly represent a valid group of users who can potentially benefit greatly from engaging with technology, such as healthcare systems or playing digital games. Yet, less attention has been given to the significance of senior citizens as technology users, as compared to the common younger population. In an effort to fill in the gap, this workshop aims to investigate the design of technology for senior citizens. To provide for more focused, thus more productive discussion, we will use elderly mobile phone games as a case in point here. The overarching objective is to understand what can help to make for better and more meaningful use of interactive applications and technology by the elderly, for instance, games on the mobile phone. © 2010 Copyright is held by the author/owner(s).
