This article reports the first observation of the Moon and the Sun shadows in the sky distribution of cosmic-ray induced muons measured by the KM3NeT/ORCA detector. The analysed data-taking period spans from February 2020 to November 2021, when the detector had 6 Detection Units deployed at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, each composed of 18 Digital Optical Modules. The shadows induced by the Moon and the Sun were detected at their nominal position with a statistical significance of 4.2σ and 6.2σ, and an angular resolution of σres = 0.49◦ and σres = 0.66◦, respectively, consistent with the prediction of 0.53◦ from simulations. This early result confirms the effectiveness of the detector calibration, in time, position and orientation and the accuracy of the event direction reconstruction. The optical data transport system of the KM3NeT neutrino telescope at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea will provide each of the more than 6000 optical modules in the detector arrays with a point-to-point optical connection to the control stations onshore. The ARCA and ORCA detectors of KM3NeT are being installed at a depth of about 3500 m and 2500 m, respectively;their distance to the control stations is about 100 kilometers and 40 kilometers. The expected maximum data rate is 200 Mbps per optical module. The implemented optical data transport system matches the layouts of the networks of electro-optical cables and junction boxes in the deep sea. For efficient use of the fibres in the system the technology of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing is applied. The performance of the optical system in terms of measured bit error rates, optical budget and the next steps in the implementation of the system are presented. © 2022, CC BY.

Investigating functional brain networks and activities using sparse representation of fMRI data has received significant interests in the neuroimaging field. It has been reported that sparse representation is effective in reconstructing concurrent and interactive functional brain networks. However,previous data-driven reconstruction approaches rarely simultaneously take consideration of anatomical structures,which are the substrate of brain function. Furthermore,it has been rarely explored whether structured sparse representation with anatomical guidance could facilitate functional networks reconstruction. To address this problem,in this paper,we propose to reconstruct brain networks using the anatomy-guided structured multi-task regression (AGSMR) in which 116 anatomical regions from the AAL template as prior knowledge are employed to guide the network reconstruction. Using the publicly available Human Connectome Project (HCP) Q1 dataset as a test bed,our method demonstrated that anatomical guided structure sparse representation is effective in reconstructing concurrent functional brain networks. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

A new fault diagnosis method based on improved Adaptive fuzzy spiking neural P systems(in short,AFSN P systems) and Particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm is presented to improve the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis for power systems in this paper. AFSN P systems are a novel kind of computing models with parallel computing and learning ability. Based on our previous works, this paper focuses on AFSN P systems inference algorithms and learning algorithms and builds the fault diagnosis model using improved AFSN P systems for diagnosing effectively. The process of diagnosis based on AFSN P systems is expressed by matrix successfully to improve the rate of diagnosis eminently. Furthermore, particle swarm optimization algorithm is introduced into the learning algorithm of AFSN P systems, thus the convergence speed of diagnosis has a big progress. An example of 4-node system is given to verify the effectiveness of this method. Compared with the existing methods, this method has faster diagnosis speed, higher accuracy and strong ability to adapt to the grid topology changes.

BACKGROUND:Epidemiological evidence on short-term association between ambient carbon monoxide (CO) and mortality is inconclusive and limited to single cities, regions, or countries. Generalisation of results from previous studies is hindered by potential publication bias and different modelling approaches. We therefore assessed the association between short-term exposure to ambient CO and daily mortality in a multicity, multicountry setting. METHODS:We collected daily data on air pollution, meteorology, and total mortality from 337 cities in 18 countries or regions, covering various periods from 1979 to 2016. All included cities had at least 2 years of both CO and mortality data. We estimated city-specific associations using confounder-adjusted generalised additive models with a quasi-Poisson distribution, and then pooled the estimates, accounting for their statistical uncertainty, using a random-effects multilevel meta-analytical model. We also assessed the overall shape of the exposure-response curve and evaluated the possibility of a threshold below which health is not affected. FINDINGS:Overall, a 1 mg/m increase in the average CO concentration of the previous day was associated with a 0·91% (95% CI 0·32-1·50) increase in daily total mortality. The pooled exposure-response curve showed a continuously elevated mortality risk with increasing CO concentrations, suggesting no threshold. The exposure-response curve was steeper at daily CO levels lower than 1 mg/m, indicating greater risk of mortality per increment in CO exposure, and persisted at daily concentrations as low as 0·6 mg/m or less. The association remained similar after adjustment for ozone but was attenuated after adjustment for particulate matter or sulphur dioxide, or even reduced to null after adjustment for nitrogen dioxide. We propose a method for music classification based on the use of convolutional models on symbolic pitch–time representations (i.e. piano-rolls) which we apply to composer recognition. An excerpt of a piece to be classified is first sampled to a 2D pitch–time representation which is then subjected to various transformations, including convolution with predefined filters (Morlet or Gaussian) and classified by means of support vector machines. We combine classifiers based on different pitch representations (MIDI and morphetic pitch) and different filter types and configurations. The method does not require parsing of the music into separate voices, or extraction of any other predefined features prior to processing;instead it is based on the analysis of texture in a 2D pitch–time representation. We show that filtering significantly improves recognition and that the method proves robust to encoding, transposition and amount of information. The detection of astrophysical vτ is an important verification of the observed flux of high-energy neutrinos. A flavour ratio of approximately ve : vμ : vτ ≈ 1: 1: 1 is predicted for astrophysical neutrinos measured at Earth due to neutrino oscillations. On top of this, the vτ offers a unique channel for neutrino astronomy due to absence of an atmospheric vτ background contribution. When a vτ interacts it produces a particle cascade and often a τ lepton which in turn decays mainly into another cascade. This results in a double cascade signature. An excellent angular resolution can be achieved when both cascade vertices are reconstructed. The KM3NeT/ARCA detector, which is under construction in the Mediterranean sea, will be able to detect this signature due to its timing and spatial resolution for cascades. We will discuss the dedicated reconstruction algorithm and performance for reconstructing double cascades using KM3NeT. The discovery of a high-energy cosmic neutrino flux has paved the way for the field of neutrino astronomy. For a large part of the flux, the sources remain unidentified. The KM3NeT detector, which is under construction in the Mediterranean sea, is designed to determine their origin. KM3NeT will instrument a cubic kilometre of seawater with photomultiplier tubes that detect Cherenkov radiation from neutrino interaction products with nanosecond precision. For single cascade event signatures, KM3NeT already showed that it can reach degree-level resolutions, greatly increasing the use of these neutrinos for astronomy. In this contribution, we further refine the cascade reconstruction by making a more detailed model of the neutrinos events and including additional information on the hit times. The arrival time of light can be used to improve the identification of double cascade signatures from tau neutrinos, and the angular resolution of both single and double cascade signatures. High density use of (mostly gasoline or diesel fueled) cars has led to a number of environmental and social problems in urban environments. Towards addressing these challenges, shifting urban transportation modes from private cars to other more sustainable modes has been considered as a promising solution. However, underlying policies and constraints for the mode shift as well as user mobility and behavior patterns are largely unknown. Also, the performance of the mode shift still lacks thorough quantitative evaluation in both simulation and showcases. To this end, we propose to review the current sustainable mobility practice, simulate user behaviors and traffic scenarios, design and implement strategies in real world, and assess its impacts in China and Germany. The results obtained may provide fundamental guidelines and promote sustainable transportation systems.
