During the last two decades, interest in grid integrated renewable energy sources (RERs) into the electrical power grids has significantly grown. The motive being a promising strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by conventional power plants (CPPs) and hence environmental consequences, decrease losses in distribution lines to improve power system supply efficiency and reliability to consumers. As a result, several CPPs are being replaced by RERs such as solar PV system, wind energy, micro hydro-turbine, fuel cell, and small gas power plants. These are installed close to customers on low-voltage and medium-voltage sites to reduce losses in the network and improve power quality, overall efficiency and reliability. However, grid-connected RERs via inverter decreases system inertia due to decrease in CPPs with rotating mass serving as an immediate natural response to frequency deviations following network disturbances. Therefore, this paper presents the design of dynamic virtual-inertia control (DVIC) scheme. The developed DVIC incorporates the mechanism to adjust active and reactive demand in response to any frequency and voltage variations to ensure system stability. To validate the suitability of the presented technique, MATLAB/Simulink model is developed and simulated under various operating scenarios. Using the results obtained simulation study, it is evidently the proposed DVIC shows improved performance is achieved than when no inertia control system applied. © 2025 IEEE.

This study is concerned with a control system design method with frequency response data named a finite number of frequency responses(an FNFR) model. In this paper a numerical descent direction is introduced and an iterative method for solving control problems formulated with the FNFR model is proposed with the descent direction. One feature of our approach is to update controller variables so that they approach to a feasible region of considering control problems from the outside. The efficiency of our method is shown by numerical examples.

Previous Few-Shot Segmentation (FSS) approaches exclusively utilize support features for prototype generation, neglecting the specific requirements of the query. To address this, we present the Query-guided Prototype Evolution Network (QPENet), a new method that integrates query features into the generation process of foreground and background prototypes, thereby yielding customized prototypes attuned to specific queries. The evolution of the foreground prototype is accomplished through a support-query-support iterative process involving two new modules: Pseudo-prototype Generation (PPG) and Dual Prototype Evolution (DPE). The PPG module employs support features to create an initial prototype for the preliminary segmentation of the query image, resulting in a pseudo-prototype reflecting the unique needs of the current query. Subsequently, the DPE module performs reverse segmentation on support images using this pseudo-prototype, leading to the generation of evolved prototypes, which can be considered as custom solutions. As for the background prototype, the evolution begins with a global background prototype that represents the generalized features of all training images. We also design a Global Background Cleansing (GBC) module to eliminate potential adverse components mirroring the characteristics of the current foreground class. Experimental results on the PASCAL-5i and COCO-20i datasets attest to the substantial enhancements achieved by QPENet over prevailing state-of-the-art techniques, underscoring the validity of our ideas. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

The electroencephalogram (EEG) serves as a significant tool in the realms of clinical medicine, cerebral investigation, and neurological disorders research. However, the EEG records we obtain are often easily contaminated by various artifacts, which can blur or distort the underlying EEG signals and make data interpretation difficult. Generally speaking, removing EEG artifacts is considered an essential step in brain signal analysis. Therefore, removing artifacts is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable EEG signals for subsequent analysis. Recently, deep learning techniques have found widespread application across various domains for denoising tasks, including image denoising and EEG denoising. Many advanced algorithms have been developed in image denoising, which has achieved good results in enhancing low-quality images. Moreover, it has shown superior performance in EEG denoising. In contrast, few people have devoted themselves to studying EEG denoising, and existing convolutional neural network EEG denoising methods still have problems of overfitting and poor denoising effect in Electromyograph(EMG) and ElectroOculoGram(EOG) artifact removal. Therefore, this paper proposes a method called DWINet (De-artifacting with Image-based Network for EEG Signals) based on an image dehazing network DRHNet for removing artifacts from EEG signals. Specifically, our approach DWINet, addresses the de-artifacting issue in EEG signals by converting it as an image dehazing problem and utilizes the image dehazing capability of DRHNet to enhance the denoising performance of EEG signals. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the compared algorithms in removing the ocular artifact in EEG signals and exhibits higher accuracy and robustness. © 2024, J. Language-Queried Target Sound Extraction Without Parallel Training Data

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2024, CC BY.

Semantic segmentation is widely needed in many application areas. Driven by the development of deep learning, semantic segmentation methods have made significant progress in accuracy, robustness, and speed. Based on the short-term dense concatenate network, this paper proposes an edge-guided context real-time semantic segmentation network (EGCNet), which further improves the detail branch, extracts edge information from feature maps, and enhances the network’s ability to extract edge information through edge-assisted training. Because the top-level feature map contains minimal detailed information, the network only extracts the boundary of the low-level feature map such that the useful information is utilized as much as possible while reducing the computational load. In addition, we improve the attention-refining module by embedding position information, allowing it to capture the target structure more accurately. EGCNet achieves 71 FPS and 78.6\% mIoU on the Cityscapes dataset at a low computational cost, making it an efficient real-time semantic segmentation network. © 2023, The Authors. In the paper, different approaches to the problem of forecasting promotion efficiency are presented. For four defined indicators of promotion effect, prediction models using Gradient Boosting method and Deep Learning methods were trained. The comparison of the results is provided. Sustainability is a pressing global challenge demanding an integrated approach balancing economic, environmental, and social perspectives. Numerous indicators have been proposed in the literature to assess progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including equitable and sustainable well-being (BES). To effectively manage and monitor these indicators, robust analytical models are essential. The present study proposed an integrated analytical framework combining the 0–1 (min–max) method and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The analysis examined 61 indicators from the 2024 Equitable and Sustainable Well-being of the Territories, a dataset developed by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) to assess regional social, economic, and environmental sustainability across Italy. The results confirmed a persistent north–south divide, with average scores of 3.9 in the north and 1.4 in the south on a 1–5 scale, and central Italy demonstrating an intermediate performance of 3.1. At the regional level, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardia, and Valle d'Aosta emerged as top performers, while at the territorial level, Milano, Bologna, and Trieste stood out. These insights highlight the need for stronger synergies between territories to enhance competitiveness and elevate “Made in Italy” on the global stage. Effective regional collaboration may optimize resource allocation, harmonize territorial disparities, and accelerate progress toward the SDGs by leveraging local strengths and fostering sustainable development. © 2025 The Author(s)

Driver drowsiness electroencephalography (EEG) signal monitoring can timely alert drivers of their drowsiness status, thereby reducing the probability of traffic accidents. Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have shown significant advancements in processing the non-stationary, time-varying, and non-Euclidean nature of EEG signals. However, the existing single-channel EEG adjacency graph construction process lacks interpretability, which hinders the ability of GCNs to effectively extract adjacency graph features, thus affecting the performance of drowsiness monitoring. To address this issue, we propose an edge-end lightweight dual graph convolutional network (LDGCN). Specifically, we are the first to incorporate neurophysiological knowledge to design a Baseline Drowsiness Status Adjacency Graph (BDSAG), which characterizes driver drowsiness status. Additionally, to express more features within limited EEG data, we introduce the Augmented Graph-level Module (AGM). This module captures global and local information at the graph level, ensuring that BDSAG features remain intact while enhancing effective feature expression capability. Furthermore, to deploy our method on the fourth-generation Raspberry Pi, we utilize Adaptive Pruning Optimization (APO) on both channels and neurons, reducing inference latency by almost half. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that LDGCN offers the best trade-off between monitoring performance and hardware resource utilization compared to existing state-of-the-art algorithms. An investigation area of interest including the use of blockchain technology to address Internet of Things security concerns (IoT). Despite the fact that numerous relevant ideas have been offered, there are few published works that provide hypothetical and information backing. The examination of model building and execution assessment is the focus of this research. First, an IoT security paradigm is outlined, using blockchain and the Inter-Planetary-File-system (IPFS) in a view. Many of the security risks associated with traditional IoT designs can be avoided with this paradigm, and framework execution is entirely focused on distributed large limit stockpiling, simultaneity, and query. In addition, the suggested model's display is evaluated using normal idleness and throughput, which are important for further investigation and enhancement of this course. The blockchain-based security model's feasibility has been demonstrated via analysis and experiments. © 2022 IEEE.
