Motivated by online retail, we consider the problem of selling one item (e.g., an ad slot) to two non-excludable buyers (say, a merchant and a brand). This problem captures, for example, situations where a merchant and a brand cooperatively bid in an auction to advertise a product, and both benefit from the ad being shown. A mechanism collects bids from the two and decides whether to allocate and which payments the two parties should make. This gives rise to intricate incentive compatibility constraints, e.g., on how to split payments between the two parties. We approach the problem of finding a revenue-maximizing incentive-compatible mechanism from an online learning perspective;this poses significant technical challenges. First, the action space (the class of all possible mechanisms) is huge;second, the function that maps mechanisms to revenue is highly irregular, ruling out standard discretization-based approaches. In the stochastic setting, where agents’ valuations are drawn according to some fixed but unknown distribution, we design an efficient learning algorithm achieving a regret bound of O(T3/4). Our approach is based on an adaptive discretization scheme of the space of mechanisms, as any non-adaptive discretization fails to achieve sublinear regret. In the adversarial setting, when the valuations are arbitrarily generated upfront, we exploit the non-Lipschitzness of the problem to prove a strong negative result, namely that no learning algorithm can achieve more than half of the revenue of the best fixed mechanism in hindsight. We then consider the σ-smooth adversary, which randomly generates the valuations from smooth distributions but, unlike in the stochastic case, can do so in a non-stationary way. In this setting, we construct an efficient learning algorithm that achieves a regret bound of O(T2/3) and builds on a succinct encoding of exponentially many experts. This paper presents a vision and perception research dataset collected in Rome, featuring RGB data, 3D point clouds, IMU, and GPS data. We introduce a new benchmark targeting visual odometry and SLAM, to advance the research in autonomous robotics and computer vision. This work complements existing datasets by simultaneously addressing several issues, such as environment diversity, motion patterns, and sensor frequency. It uses up-to-date devices and presents effective procedures to accurately calibrate the intrinsic and extrinsic of the sensors while addressing temporal synchronization. During recording, we cover multi-floor buildings, gardens, urban and highway scenarios. Combining handheld and car-based data collections, our setup can simulate any robot (quadrupeds, quadrotors, autonomous vehicles). The dataset includes an accurate 6-dof ground truth based on a novel methodology that refines the RTK-GPS estimate with LiDAR point clouds through Bundle Adjustment (BA). Incomplete multi-view clustering (IMVC) has garnered increasing attention in recent years due to the common issue of missing data in multi-view datasets. The primary approach to address this challenge involves recovering the missing views before applying conventional multi-view clustering methods. Although imputation-based IMVC methods have achieved significant improvements, they still encounter notable limitations: 1) heavy reliance on paired data for training the data recovery module, which is impractical in real scenarios with high missing data rates;2) the generated data often lacks diversity and discriminability, resulting in suboptimal clustering results. To address these shortcomings, we propose a novel IMVC method called Diffusion Contrastive Generation (DCG). Motivated by the consistency between the diffusion and clustering processes, DCG learns the distribution characteristics to enhance clustering by applying forward diffusion and reverse denoising processes to intra-view data. By performing contrastive learning on a limited set of paired multi-view samples, DCG can align the generated views with the real views, facilitating accurate recovery of views across arbitrary missing view scenarios. Additionally, DCG integrates instance-level and category-level interactive learning to exploit the consistent and complementary information available in multi-view data, achieving robust and end-to-end clustering. Image captioning represents a significant challenge within the field of computer Vision. This task involves processing an image as input, identifying objects within it, comprehending the relationships between these objects, including their implicit characteristics, and generating a concise description as output. Given the vast number of potential interactions, acquiring sufficient training examples is a formidable task. Prior research has demonstrated that objects and predicates, when involved in less common relationships, occur more frequently when considered independently. Consequently, the proposed solution involves training two distinct visual models for objects and predicates, which are subsequently combined to capture as many relationships as possible. This study aims to leverage the information obtained regarding detected objects and their relationships to generate a comprehensive description of the image. By facilitating user interaction through Visual Question Answering, a task that bridges computer Vision and Natural Language Processing, we can create an interactive approach to image captioning. Given a question and an image, the system is designed to reason based on both the image content and general knowledge, and generate an accurate answer. We believe that such a system provides an effective method for visually impaired individuals to understand the content of an image. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Even if the European Commission is acting against the climate change, greenhouse gas emissions are still increasing in the transport sector. In this scenario, the flexibility characterizing the automotive sectors could invert this negative trend. The goal of this work is identifying suitable methodologies to evaluate flexible initiatives in automotive contexts, with a specific focus on sustainable mobility and electric vehicles (EVs). The results show that stakeholders identify purchase price as a determinant in the choice to purchase an EV, while for a model toward a sustainable e-mobility transition, experts place emphasis on renewable energy production and consumers on charging stations. A flexible approach in policy choices is also suggested in order to foster a pragmatic sustainability model in which the deployment of EVs is accompanied by green and circular practices. However, such change also requires attention to be paid to the social sphere with job creation and a spread of consumer knowledge toward sustainable choices. © 2023, The Author(s).

Empowering citizens by a blockchain-Based Robinson list

Robinson lists are adopted in many countries to protect phone subscribers against commercial spam calls. In its essence, they collect the denial of the subscribers to be contacted by marketing operators. Nowadays, all Robinson lists run as centralised services. Namely, citizens have to rely on trusted third parties for the management of their own choices. The Blockchain allows us to envision the development of a decentralised Robinson list in which citizens are finally empowered to autonomously manage their choices. In this paper, we present a proof-of-concept (PoC) of a decentralised Robinson list developed with the Algorand technology. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to implement a Robinson list on a blockchain technology. The PoC has been designed to support the requirements provided by Fondazione Ugo Bordoni, the manager of the Italian Robinson list. The evaluation of the PoC shows that our decentralised solution provides satisfactory performance, in terms of scalability, latency and costs, when compared to the current centralised service. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

A Novel Mutual Information-based Approach for Neurophysiological Characterization of Sense of Presence in Virtual Reality

Objective: The presented work aimed to investigate neurophysiological markers of sense of presence in virtual reality. The study was based on developing and preliminary validating a neurophysiological -based approach for sense of presence evaluation. Methods: A VR environment was designed to modulate multisensory conditions, including visual, auditory, vibrotactile stimuli. EEG, ECG, EDA signals were recorded. The Mutual Information-based sense of presence index (SoPMI) was developed as a synthetic metric for sense of presence, integrating multiple physiological signals. Signal preprocessing and analysis were conducted using EEG-based Global Field Power and Skin Conductance Level to explore their relationship with sense of presence under different VR conditions. In the recently proposed LACE framework for collective entity resolution, logical rules and constraints are used to identify pairs of entity references (e.g. author or paper ids) that denote the same entity. This identification is global: all occurrences of those entity references (possibly across multiple database tuples) are deemed equal and can be merged. By contrast, a local form of merge is often more natural when identifying pairs of data values, e.g. some occurrences of 'J. Smith' may be equated with 'Joe Smith', while others should merge with 'Jane Smith'. DRO: Doppler-Aware Direct Radar Odometry

A renaissance in radar-based sensing for mobile robotic applications is underway. Compared to cameras or lidars, millimetre-wave radars have the ability to ‘see’ through thin walls, vegetation, and adversarial weather conditions such as heavy rain, fog, snow, and dust. In this paper, we propose a novel SE(2) odometry approach for spinning frequency-modulated continuous-wave radars. Our method performs scan-to-local-map registration of the incoming radar data in a direct manner using all the radar intensity information without the need for feature or point cloud extraction. The method performs locally continuous trajectory estimation and accounts for both motion and Doppler distortion of the radar scans. If the radar possesses a specific frequency modulation pattern that makes radial Doppler velocities observable, an additional Doppler-based constraint is formulated to improve the velocity estimate and enable odometry in geometrically feature-deprived scenarios (e.g., featureless tunnels). Our method has been validated on over 250 km of on-road data sourced from public datasets (Boreas and MulRan) and collected using our automotive platform. With the aid of a gyroscope, it outperforms state-of-the-art methods and achieves an average relative translation error of 0.26% on the Boreas leaderboard. When using data with the appropriate Doppler-enabling frequency modulation pattern, the translation error is reduced to 0.18% in similar environments. We also benchmarked our algorithm using 1.5 hours of data collected with a mobile robot in off-road environments with various levels of structure to demonstrate its versatility.
