Matrix decomposition techniques have been successfully applied in the analysis of multi-subject functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. These data-driven approaches that assume the linear blind source separation (BSS) problem can yield an unsupervised and fully interpretable solution when there is a good model match. However, selecting a suitable model order that provides an accurate model match is an important challenge. Replicability and computational reproducibility are two key aspects that are also intimately related to interpretability. Despite clear evidence that solutions with poor reproducibility can lead to suboptimal results, the evaluation of reproducibility in matrix decomposition techniques remains limited in the existing literature. We propose the use of constrained independent vector analysis (cIVA), a state-of-the-art joint BSS technique, to assess the influence of model order selection for replicability and reproducibility. We demonstrate the attractiveness of clVA for replicability by alleviating permutation ambiguity as well as enabling additional quantification opportunities. Our results show that highly reproducible model orders achieve a good model match with highly interpretable and replicable solutions when clVA is applied to four different restina-state fMRI datasets.

Background: The widespread use of electronic health records in the clinical and biomedical fields makes the removal of protected health information (PHI) essential to maintain privacy. However, a significant portion of information is recorded in unstructured textual forms, posing a challenge for deidentification. In multilingual countries, medical records could be written in a mixture of more than one language, referred to as code mixing. Most current clinical natural language processing techniques are designed for monolingual text, and there is a need to address the deidentification of code-mixed text. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and underlying mechanism of fine-tuned pretrained language models (PLMs) in identifying PHI in the code-mixed context. Additionally, we aimed to evaluate the potential of prompting large language models (LLMs) for recognizing PHI in a zero-shot manner. Methods: We compiled the first clinical code-mixed deidentification data set consisting of text written in Chinese and English. We explored the effectiveness of fine-tuned PLMs for recognizing PHI in code-mixed content, with a focus on whether PLMs exploit naming regularity and mention coverage to achieve superior performance, by probing the developed models’ outputs to examine their decision-making process. Furthermore, we investigated the potential of prompt-based in-context learning of LLMs for recognizing PHI in code-mixed text. Results: The developed methods were evaluated on a code-mixed deidentification corpus of 1700 discharge summaries. We observed that different PHI types had preferences in their occurrences within the different types of language-mixed sentences, and PLMs could effectively recognize PHI by exploiting the learned name regularity. Pedestrian-related accidents account for an estimated 20-25% of the approximately 1.19 million road fatalities occurring annually, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced detection systems in surveillance and smart transportation to mitigate such incidents. The escalating demand for Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) in modern surveillance and transportation systems has become a solution to that problem but highlighted significant challenges in reducing inference times of machine learning models, particularly on constrained hardware. The maximum permissible latency for most vehicular applications ranges from 6 to 20 milliseconds based on the application. When tested on an 8GB RAM setup using the NTU, LLVIP, and VIRAT datasets, YOLOv8n achieved a minimum inference time of approximately 200 milliseconds per frame, making it unsuitable for URLLC applications despite 8GB RAM being an adequate hardware setup for edge devices. This research introduces a new two-stage pipeline that integrates Oculi’s Sensing and Processing Unit (SPU) simulation with the YOLOv8n one-stage object detection model to enhance pedestrian detection, thereby addressing these challenges. By leveraging Regions of Interest (ROIs) generated by Oculi’s SPU, our approach optimizes the input data for the YOLO model, substantially reducing computational overhead and thus making it suitable for URLLC applications. This integration can lead to a reduction in inference time by up to 93% in the tested frames when being compared to YOLOv8n pre-trained model.

Poverty threatens human development especially for developing countries,so ending poverty has become one of the most important United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).This study aims to explore China's progress in poverty reduction from 2016 to 2019 through time-series multi-source geospatial data and a deep learning *** poverty reduction efficiency(PRE)is measured by the difference in the out-of-poverty rates(which measures the probability of being not poor)of 2016 and *** study shows that the probability of poverty in all regions of China has shown an overall decreasing trend(PRE=0.264),which indicates that the progress in poverty reduction during this period is *** Hu Huanyong Line(Hu Line)shows an uneven geographical pattern of out-of-poverty rate between Southeast and Northwest *** 2016 to 2019,the centroid of China's out-of-poverty rate moved 105.786 km to the northeast while the standard deviation ellipse of the out-of-poverty rate moved 3 degrees away from the Hu Line,indicating that the regions with high out-of-poverty rates are more concentrated on the east side of the Hu Line from 2016 to *** results imply that the government's future poverty reduction policies should pay attention to the infrastructure construction in poor areas and appropriately increase the population density in poor *** study fills the gap in the research on poverty reduction under multiple scales and provides useful implications for the government's poverty reduction policy.

As continuous-flow microfluidic biochips technology rapidly advances, its automated synthesis methods require adapting to increasingly complex and stringent biochemical applications. In particular, with the introduction of time-sensitive bioassays, in this work, we present a timing-driven high-level synthesis method to optimize the resource efficiency of bioassays considering the time constraints. Specifically, we investigate the existing forms of time constraints and propose a corresponding flexible modeling approach based on reaction-control which can achieve downward compatibility for physical design. Additionally, we also analyze the impact of storage and wash on time constraints. The experimental results show that our method achieves efficient execution and low devices cost while satisfying time constraints.

Hypergraph Neural Network (HyperGNN) has emerged as a potent methodology for dissecting intricate multilateral connections among various entities. Current software/hardware solutions leverage a sequential execution model that relies on hyperedge and vertex indices for conducting standard matrix operations for HyperGNN inference. Yet, they are impeded by the dual challenges of redundant computation and irregular memory access overheads. This is primarily due to the frequent and repetitive access and updating of a number of feature vectors corresponding to the same hyperedges and vertices. To address these challenges, we propose the first redundancy-aware accelerator, RAHP, which enables high performance execution of HyperGNN inference. Specifically, we present a redundancy-aware asynchronous execution approach into the accelerator design for HyperGNN to reduce redundant computations and off-chip memory accesses. To unveil opportunities for data reuse and unlock the parallelism that existing HyperGNN solutions fail to capture, it prioritizes vertices with the highest degree as roots, prefetching other vertices along the hypergraph structure to capture the common vertices among multiple hyperedges, and synchronizing the computations of hyperedges and vertices in real-time. By such means, this facilitates the concurrent processing of relevant hyperedge and vertex computations of the common vertices along the hypergraph topology, resulting in smaller redundant computations overhead. Furthermore, by efficiently caching intermediate results of the common vertices, it curtails memory traffic and off-chip communications. To fully harness the performance potential of our proposed approach in the accelerator, RAHP incorporates a topology-driven data loading mechanism to minimize off-chip memory accesses on the fly. COVID-19 is a more transferable illness caused by a new novel coronavirus. It is highly emerging with efficient biosensors such as sensitive and selective that afford the diagnostic tools to infer the disease early. It can maintain a personalized healthcare system to evaluate the growth of disease under proper patient care. To discover as a personalized technology, the healthcare system prefers collaborative filtering. It can effectively deal with cold-start and sparse-data to conduct useful extensions. Due to the continuous expansion of scaling data in a medical scenario, content-based, collaborative filtering, and similarity metrics are preferred. It relies on the most similar social users or threats when the information is large. Many neighbors gain importance to obtain a set of users with whom a target user is likely to match. Forming communities reveal vulnerable users and also reduce the challenges of collaborative filtering like data-sparsity and cold-start problems. Thus, this framework proposes content-based collaborative filtering using intelligent recommendation systems (CCF-IRS) based on high correlation and shortest neighbor in the social community. Foundation models such as GPT-4 are fine-tuned to avoid unsafe or otherwise problematic behavior, such as helping to commit crimes or producing racist text. One approach to fine-tuning, called reinforcement learning from human feedback, learns from humans' expressed preferences over multiple outputs. Another approach is constitutional ai, in which the input from humans is a list of high-level principles. But how do we deal with potentially diverging input from humans? How can we aggregate the input into consistent data about "collective" preferences or otherwise use it to make collective choices about model behavior? In this paper, we argue that the field of social choice is well positioned to address these questions, and we discuss ways forward for this agenda, drawing on discussions in a recent workshop on Social Choice for ai Ethics and Safety held in Berkeley, CA, USA in December 2023.

Finding multiple temporal relationships among locations can benefit a bunch of urban applications, such as dynamic offline advertising and smart public transport planning. While some efforts have been made on finding static relationships among locations, little attention is focused on studying time-aware location relationships. Indeed, abundant location-based human activities are time-varying and the availability of these data enables a new paradigm for understanding the dynamic relationships in a period among connective locations. To this end, we propose to study a new problem, namely multi-Temporal relationship inference among locations (Trial for short), where the major challenge is how to integrate dynamic and geographical influence under the relationship sparsity constraint. Specifically, we propose a solution to Trial with a graph learning scheme, which includes a spatially evolving graph neural network (SEENet) with two collaborative components: spatially evolving graph convolution module (SEConv) and spatially evolving self-supervised learning strategy (SE-SSL). SEConv performs the intra-time aggregation and inter-time propagation to capture the multifaceted spatially evolving contexts from the view of location message passing. Towards Context-aware Support for Color Vision Deficiency: An Approach Integrating LLM and AR

People with color vision deficiency often face challenges in distinguishing colors such as red and green, which can complicate daily tasks and require the use of assistive tools or environmental adjustments. Current support tools mainly focus on presentation-based aids, like the color vision modes found in iPhone accessibility settings. However, offering context-aware support, like indicating the doneness of meat, remains a challenge since task-specific solutions are not cost-effective for all possible scenarios. To address this, our paper proposes an application that provides contextual and autonomous assistance. This application is mainly composed of: (i) an augmented reality interface that efficiently captures context;and (ii) a multi-modal large language model-based reasoner that serves to cognitize the context and then reason about the appropriate support contents. Preliminary user experiments with two color vision deficient users across five different scenarios have demonstrated the effectiveness and universality of our application. © 2024, CC BY.
