Edges in an image is used to extract very important features like line, curves and corners. The extraction of these features can be further used for real time purposes like face recognition, computer vision algorithms etc. But it is somewhat difficult to extract out all the edges efficiently without affecting the structural properties of an image. Edges in an image represents a swift change in the intensity of an image and noise in an image also signifies the same so what happens when noise is abundant in an image. There are different techniques used for this finding edges-Roberts, Sobel, Canny, Prewitt, Laplacian of Gaussian, and Zero Cross. In this the various effects of noise on these operators is discussed.

A major grid disturbance occurred in the Northern grid of Indian power grid on 30 th July 2012, causing a blackout in northern region. The main cause was the malfunctioning of distance relay due to power swing, weak interregional corridor and multiple outage of lines. In this paper a power swing is compensated by thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) to prevent the unnecessary tripping of line due to power swing and avoid cascading tripping and unforeseen blackout. The power swing is compensated by installation of TCSC at optimum location and controlling the impedance of line by changing its reactance; the oscillation is also damped out by TCSC. The distance relay used for power swing protection does not issue the trip command due to power swing compensation. The TSCS model is simulated for power swing compensation and gives the expected results and prevents the blackout in electricity grid. This paper describes the compensation technique for mho relay to protect the transmission line under power swing.

The main objective of this work is to study network parameters commonly used to explain social structures. Neural network model has been developed to estimation of antenna characteristics like resonance frequency, Gain and Bandwidth of a coaxial feed slotted Microstrip patch Antenna. The aim of the study is to analysis of physical parameters of designed slotted Microstrip antennas with dielectric constant RT Duroid (ε = 2.4) and substrate of thickness 3.17 mm. The results obtained using IE3D simulation are compared with ANN outputs found quite satisfactory. The proposed antenna has improved 5.88 GHz to 8.28 GHz of bandwidth compare than conventional unslotted microstrip antenna.

Feature selection from microarray data has become an ever evolving area of research. Numerous techniques have widely been applied for extraction of genes which are expressed differentially in microarray data. Some of these comprise of studies related to fold-change approach, classical t-statistics and modified t-statistics. It has been found that the gene lists returned by these methods are dissimilar. In this work we compare the outputs of two different feature selection methods using three classifiers based on different algorithms namely the Random Forest Ensemble based method, the Support vector machine (SVM) and the KNN methods, using the prediction accuracy of the test datasets.

Accidents occurring in railway transportation systems cost a large number of lives. Many people die and several others get physical and mentally injured. There is certain need of advanced and robust techniques that can not only prevent these accidents but also eradicate all possibilities of their occurrence. We are proposing a sensor network which continuously monitors the railway track through the acoustic sensors and detect any discontinuity in the track. The sensor nodes are equipped with the acoustic sensors that can sense the vibration in the railway track due a coming train. They also estimate the theoretical value of vibration knowing their distance from the train. They compare sensed and estimated vibration intensities. If there is a major difference between these intensities then the track is suspected to be broken. The geographical positioning sensors are placed on the trains as well as on sensors. This complete process is real time in nature and should meet the timing deadlines. The nodes placed on the track and the forwarding poles are expected to work regularly for a long period of time without human intervention. These are generally battery operated so should be following some energy efficiency algorithm also. This paper is an attempt to optimize the energy used by the sensor nodes by using proposed intelligent sensor and lazy pole strategy. Very few approaches have been implemented concerning the track breakage detection. The sensors follow the proposed intelligent sensing technique whereas the poles follow the lazy poles strategy to make the approach energy efficient.

This paper presents a novel design of a co-ordinated controller for series connected FACTS devices like Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor(TCSC) and Thyristor controlled Power Angle Regulator (TCPAR). The scheme can be used for non-linear system control, in which the exact linearized mathematical model of the system is not required, can be used to control many FACTS devices with a single controller. The basis of the proposed design is the Real Time Recurrent Learning (RTRL) algorithm in which the Neural Network (NN) is trained in real time. This requires two sets of neural networks. The first set is a fully connected Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) which acts as a neuro-identifier that provides the dynamic model of the system. The second set of neural network is the neuro-controller, used to generate the required control signals for the thyristors. Simulations results of the system using MATLAB/SIMULINK show that the performance of the system with the proposed controller is better than the conventional PI controllers and GA-based PI controllers.

Removing or reducing noises from image is a very active research area in image processing domain. This paper presents an efficient noise removal technique to restore digital images corrupted by mixed noise, preserving image contents optimally. The proposed filtering technique consists of two steps: the noisy pixel detection step using fuzzy technique and the mixed noise filtering step. Noises addressed in this method are a combination of salt and pepper noise and Gaussian noise. This method reduces mixed noises considerably without compromising on edge sharpness. Experimental results show that the proposed technique consistently outperforms many existing fuzzy based algorithms while balancing the tradeoff between noise reduction and detail preservation. Hence, this mixed noise removal technique finds application in various segments of image processing like digital television, medical image processing, digital camera, surveillance systems etc.

In this paper, broadband and multiband design approaches are proposed to produce antennas that can serve for various wireless technologies using different frequencies from 2.3 to 5.0 GHz, covering WiFi, WLAN frequencies at 2.4-2.48 GHz, as well as WiMax frequencies at 2.40-2.48 GHz, 2.49-2.59 GHz, 3.5-3.8 GHz. Introducing fractal concept to the star-shaped microstrip antenna, Koch curve antenna is designed. The Koch island fractal patch antenna is introduced in order to reduce the antenna size. By space-filling property of fractal geometry, this antenna reveals lower resonant frequency. There is a reduction of resonance frequency from 2.43GHz to 1.78GHz i.e. around 27% with the proposed antenna compared to the triangular patch of the same size. Based on experimental result, it is found that as iteration and iteration factor increases the resonant frequency of this patch antenna decreases. Broad band and multiband operation with size reduction is obtained. To improve efficiency and bandwidth suspended configuration is used. A comparison of fractal antenna with conventional microstrip patch antenna is made regarding the bandwidth, return loss, VSWR, and gain. The antenna is simulated by the HFSS software.

In traditional ART2 network, class representation is contained in a F2 node instead of being dispersed on several nodes. As a result, any harm to that F2 node leads to the loss of that class. The proposed network is capable of maintaining categories in a dynamic hierarchical structure. The new architecture is characterized by: (a) maintains all the characters of traditional ART2 network; (b) Creates better clustering of patterns; (c) preserve learnt patterns in a dynamic structure. The proposed networks provide a few advantages, quick learning and reduced search time. To demonstrate their capabilities, the proposed networks were applied to solve the image classification problems. The proposed network is believed to achieve effective unsupervised task and it has been experimentally found to perform well in images classification.
