"AMRHy: Hybrid Protocol for a Reliable Multicast Transport in Active Networking Environments" by Lakhdar Derdouri, Congduc Pham, Mohamed Benmohammed in the International Journal of computer Science and Network Security, Vol.8 No.10, October 2008, pp. 66-78 IP multicast plays a very important role in group communication. At the network level IP multicast provides an efficient one-to-many IP packets delivery but without providing any reliability guarantees. Desirable features of reliable multicast include low end-to-end delay, high throughput and scalability. Active networks open a new perspective in providing more efficient solutions to the problems of reliability. However, the existing active reliable multicast protocols are based on receiver-initiated approach for loss recovery. In this paper we propose a new active reliable multicast protocol by combining sender- initiated and receiver-initiated approaches for loss recovery. This approach helps to solve the scalability problems like acknowledgement implosion, recovery load balancing etc.

The impact of OO design on software quality characteristics such as defect density and rework by mean of experimental validation. Encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, reusability, Data hiding and message-passing are the major attribute of an Object Oriented system. In order to evaluate the quality of an Object oriented system the above said attributes can act as indicators. The metrics are the well known quantifiable approach to express any attribute. Hence, in this paper we tried to formulate a framework of metrics representing the attributes of object oriented system. Empirical Data is collected from three different projects based on object oriented paradigms to calculate the metrics.

Presence of excess fluoride in water causes health hazards to humans and animals. Presence of fluoride in exceeding limits and its related problems to drinking water prevailing in many parts of India are well presented. Like any other pollutant, fluoride pollution can also occur due to, both natural and man-made sources. Fluoride in drinking water is known for both beneficial in detrimental effects on human health. Many solutions to solve fluoride problems have been recommended. Fluoride from water or wastewater can be removed by precipitation, adsorption and ion exchange methods. The ion exchange/adsorption process can be applied for fluoride removal under certain conditions. The method amenable for a given condition needs to be carefully selected keeping various aspects in mind. The paper presents the current knowledge of fluoride in environment including chemistry of fluoride, fluorides in the Indian scenario, effects of fluoride, and available methods of defluoridation.

In this article, we have concentrated on selecting the reliable path from source to destination in a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) framework using Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) of evidence. The belief and plausibility functions are used here for calculating the suitable path for sending data packet from source to destination selecting the proper neighborhood oil the basis of radio range of the source node. The radio range is determined depending on the Proximity Index and birth rate and death rate of the neighborhood nodes of the source node. Whenever data packet is changing hops within source and destination some credit and penalty are introduced to the next and previous hops respectively. In the concluding section of the present article a measure of gain (in delay) has been introduced for comparison of the existing methods vis-a-vis that of the proposed one.

This paper presents the non-linear linear dynamic control of structure, which is subjected to strong earthquake shaking, using an adaptive robotic controller or AR-1 damper3. This AR damper incorporates the feature of adaptive nonlinear control of nonlinear dynamics developed by seismic event and controlling signal thus generated is utilize for robotic control action. The robot with three degree of freedom feature4is proposed to control the in & out motion (roll movement), side to side motion (Yaw movement) and up & down motion (Pitch movement) of structure6. A bridge structure is considered with hybrid seismic isolation system for earthquake hazard mitigation investigated in this paper. The modified self-tuning regulator (STR) is proposed as an adaptive regulator for non-linear dynamic control6. The seismic simulation is carried out to test the performance of proposed method for Gadha Jabalpur 1997 (India) location out of five prominent seismic locations i.e. Jabalpur (India), Ahmedabad (India), San Fernando, (Pacoima Dam), Michoacan (Mexico city), Northridge (Sylmar). The seismic parameters i.e. deck displacement, bearing displacement, Pier drift ratio, base shear coefficient, deck acceleration and damper force are used for simulation and results are compared with the Non-isolated, passive, fuzzy control, Non-linear control methods11,12. The proposed adaptive robotic control method is found to be better in performance. The proposed method may prevent or significantly reduce structured damage during a seismic event. The authors have taken up the vibration-damping problem of structure due to strong earthquake. The development of an adaptive robotic system to control or damp the building vibration is proposed. Authors presented an adaptive controller design for a robot to sustain and filter seismic vibration, to the mechanical structure (bridge) on which it is mounted for this purpose.

This paper presents the fuzzy logic based shear design of reinforced concrete (RC) structural walls design earthquakes shaking. The failure of a RC member critically depends on the relative flexural and shear strengths provided in it3. RC structural walls are grouped into two types, namely slender walls (whose aspect ratio hω/lω > 2.0) and squat walls (whose aspect ratio hω/lω, > 0.5). The desirable mode of failure has been achieved by proper sequencing of the strength hierarchy in fuzzy logic plane2,7. The types of failure modes for both slender and squat walls have been discussed using fuzzy logic theory7,8. RC structural walls in a multi storeyed building offer high lateral stiffness and therefore restrict the deformation response of the building under strong earthquake shaking3. The range (0.5ω/lω2,9,10. The designer is not confined in hard bound (standard codes) but he as an expert has liberty to imply his own reasoning while designing.

Design of a novel active queue management (AQM) scheme to support distributed multimedia flows is discussed. An analysis is done for reducing the loss rates of such flows. Most of the existing AQM schemes consider TCP and TCP-friendly flows, which result in unexpected congestion when multimedia flows compete with them. This AQM uses a pushout scheme to support higher priority multimedia flows that normally use UDP. As loss rate is one of the important quality of service (QoS) parameters, this work aims at reduced loss rate for such flows. Simulation results prove the correctness of the solution and indicate reduced loss rates. The notable feature of this work is that it can be easily implemented in the IP routers. Simulation results in ns-2 are presented. The results conform to the analysis

The switch mode DC-DC converters are used to convert the unregulated DC input voltage into a controlled DC output voltage at a desired level. They are mostly used in computer power supplies, servo motor drives, medical equipments etc. Luo converter is a recently developed DC-DC converter. Positive output Luo converter performs the voltage conversion from positive source voltage to positive load voltage. Parallel connection of Luo converters are used when available converters are of lower current rating but load requires higher current. Because of dissimilarities in devices and components used in converters, current drawn or supplied by each converter is unequal which will lead to converter failure or malfunction. Therefore the main control issues in parallel connected converters are to ensure proper current sharing and equalize the output currents among converters and also to ensure regulated output voltage under load and supply disturbances. The objectives of this work are to design and develop PI control for paralleled positive output Luo converters using MATLAB software. The simulation results are presented. This paper presents the design of a very low-power and high-speed, with a 70-75 MS/s 8b, CMOS Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). The design equations are solved to achieve the complete architecture of the ADC. The maximum sampling speed achieved is 75 MHz at an analog power supply of 2.5 V. Total power consumption at full speed is 24.8mW. The ADC is implemented using 0.35μm MOSIS BSIM3 model. © 2004 IEEE.

BIST design for sequential circuits is a difficult enterprise. The difficulty stems from the lack of uniformity in reachability and emitability of machine states. The paper introduces a BIST-qualily metric termed the FiF-FoF (fan-in-factor and fan-out-factor) defined on FSM-states. Based on the FiF-FoF analysis, an efficient synthesis scheme is presented that ensures all state codes of FSM may appear with uniform likelihood at the present state lines during the test phase. The uniform mobility of states ensures higher fault efficiency in a BIST structure of the circuit. Extensive experimentation on MCNC benchmarks and randomly generated large FSMs shows that the proposed scheme improves the fault efficiency of sequential circuits significantly, with marginal area overhead.
