Modern technology made storing, sharing, organizing huge amounts of data simple through the Internet of things. Search engines and query-based retrieval databases made access to relevant data easy through ranking and indexing based on content stored. This paper presents a content-based image retrieval technique using image quality assessment (IQA) model. The scheme combines two images IQA model namely mean-structural-similarity-index measure (MSSIM) and feature-similarity-index measure (FSIM) to take the relative advantage of each other. The MSSIM algorithm believes that human visual system can greatly reorganize the structural information from an image signal. On the other hand, color information is extracted using FSIM model. A combination of four image features i.e. luminance, contrast, structure, and color are used for similarity matching. Extensive experiments are carried out and assessment results reveal the outperforming result of the proposed technique with other related scheme.

In this paper, we aim to analyse the impact of training on improvement in cognitive abilities and performance of the subjects playing single player action video game. Recent research indicates that playing Action video games improve cognitive abilities. However no study has exploited the novel technique, Empirical Mode Decomposition in the field of action video games. Empirical mode decomposition was used to extract various features by decomposing EEG data into intrinsic mode functions. Intrinsic mode functions were used to calculate linear features like standard deviation, phase and energy. K- Nearest Neighbour & Linear Discriminant Analysis classifiers were used to classify the subject based on the changes in features extracted due to the impact of training. Psychological tests conducted before and after the training, positively affirm that training improves cognitive abilities like reaction time and reduces stress level.

New voltage-controlled floating inductors employing CFOAs and an analog multiplier have been presented which have the attractive features of using a canonic number of passive components (only two resistors and a capacitor) and not requiring any component-matching conditions and design constraints for the intended type of inductance realization. In this paper, a new evolutionary optimization technique called flower pollination algorithm is employed to compute the optimal parameters of an unknown infinite impulse response (IIR) system. FPA is inspired by the pollination process of flowers. To achieve a balance between intensification and diversification phases, proper tuning of control parameter has been performed. The proposed FPA based method for system identification is free from the problems of premature convergence and suboptimal solutions encountered in conventional methods. To validate the performance of FPA based system identification, simulations has been carried out for three benchmarked IIR systems using same order system. Mean square error (MSE) and convergence profile are the performance measures used to assess the performance of the proposed method. Simulation results demonstrate that the FPA based system identification gives superior performance as compared to system identification achieved with genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO).

In this paper, a simple and efficient edge detection technique is proposed. It is based on the properties of the hyper smoothing function and the fundamentals of modified local binary pattern and hence, called as HY-LBP. The main advantage of the proposed approach is that the relationship between surrounding pixels and centric one is calculated effectively and extract the surrounding information discriminatively. The counting scheme that counts the number of image points whose pixel values are greater or equal than that of the central pixel help to reduce the noise and blurring effects. Thus, HY-LBP can effectively deal with the noises, blurring, and contrast variation. The effectuality and feasibility of the proposed approach is demonstrated on various synthetic and real time images. Experimental results have shown the effectiveness as well as the better performance of the proposed approach for edge detection as compared to the other existing methods. The presented method can be used in metal sheet defect detection applications.

Unit commitment problem (UCP) is complicated non-linear optimization strategy for the scheduling of power generating units. The emission constrained unit commitment problem (ECUCP) is used to acquire the switching status of generating units by incorporating different equality and inequality system constraints. The equality and inequality constraints are power generating limit;maximum allowable emissions limit of the generating units;minimum up/down duration and as well as spinning reserve constraints of the generating units. In this research;Modified Differential Evolution (MODE) optimization techniques have been implemented for solving the emission constrained unit commitment problem (ECUCP). Modified Differential Evolution (MODE) is an evolutionary algorithm in which initial population of the feasible appellant is created randomly. MODE has three operators for searching the global best solution i.e. modified Gaussian mutation;crossover and selection. The result of emission constrained unit commitment problem (ECUCP) has validated on IEEE 30 bus 6 generating unit systems and numerical solution has proved MODE as efficient optimization technique.

Although a variety of applications of the OTRAs have been reported in literature, the pole of the transresistance gain Rm of the OTRA has been usually considered to affect the performance of the circuits due to being parasitic. In this paper, the pole of the OTRA has been used to evolve some simple OTRA-based active-R circuits for realizing a synthetic inductor, single resistance controlled oscillator and low-pass/band-pass filter. The workability of all the proposed circuits has been verified by SPICE simulations and all the new circuits have been found to work as predicted by theory. The exemplary propositions suggest that it is worthwhile to further investigate new circuit designs using OTRA-pole.
