In this paper, modified Schneider operator and modified AL-SKG rule based recursive digital differentiators have been analyzed in the low frequency range. The first order s-to-z transformations obtained are in close conformity to the ideal differentiator in terms of magnitude. The phase response shows a linear variation in this range which is also desirable for several applications. MATLAB simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed analysis. These models can be used for discrete realizations of low frequency differentiators.

The effectiveness of combinatorial interaction testing (CIT) to test highly configurable systems has constantly motivated researchers to look out for new techniques to construct optimal covering arrays that correspond to test sets. Pair-wise testing is a combinatorial testing technique that generates a pair-wise interaction test set to test all possible combinations of each pair of input parameter value. Meta heuristic techniques have being explored by researchers in past to construct optimal covering arrays for t-way testing (where, t denotes the strength of interaction). In this paper we apply genetic algorithm, a meta heuristic search based optimization algorithm to generate optimal mixed covering arrays for pair-wise testing. Here, we present a novel method that uses a greedy based approach to perform mutation and study the impact of the proposed approach on the performance of genetic algorithm. We describe the implementation of the proposed approach by extending an open source tool PWiseGen. Experimental results indicate that the use of greedy approach to perform mutation improves the performance of genetic algorithm by generating mixed covering arrays with higher fitness level in less number of generations as compared to those generated using other techniques.

Fault diagnosis and condition assessment (FDCA) of rotating machines becomes important due to the age of machine in service. Proper FDCA enhance the machine's operational life, efficiency and reducing catastrophic failure. This paper describes a realistic FDCA method for three phase induction motors (IMs) using readily available data. External faults experienced by IM are monitored by proximal support vector machine (PSVM) and compared its performance with standard support vector machine and artificial neural network which revealed that PSVM algorithm is quite faster in investigations leading to reduction in computational load. RMS value of 3-phase voltages and currents are utilized as input variable in PSVM model to identify six types of external faults experienced by IM and normal operating (NF) condition. Testing analysis of 160 samples has been carried out to represent the robustness of the investigated seven status conditions for wide changes in operating and loading condition perturbation.

The main objective of present study is to compare ANN model develop with neural network fitting tool (nftool), Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) in predicting solar radiation for power generation. The three combinations of input variables are considered for prediction. The RBFNN utilizing input parameters as latitude, longitude, height above sea level and sunshine hours has mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 4.94% and absolute fraction of variance (R~2) of 96.18% respectively and it give better results than conventional solar radiation prediction models (Angstrom, Akinoglu and Ecevit, Bahel, Almorox and Hontoria). Therefore RBFNN can be used for prediction of solar radiation for solar power generation.

The purpose of a clutch is to initiate motion or increase the velocity of a body generally by transferring kinetic energy from another moving body. The mass being accelerated is generally a rotating inertial body. The present paper deals with designing a friction clutch assembly using Solid Works Office Premium software. The assembly comprises of the clutch plate, the pressure plate and a diaphragm spring. Static structural analysis was done using ANSYS software. The plots for equivalent stress, total deformation and factor of safety were obtained and the design was continuously optimized till a safe design was obtained . Uniform wear theory was used for the analysis. The material assignment is as follows: clutch plate-structural steel, pressure plate- cast iron GS-70-02 and diaphragm spring- spring steel. The friction material assumed is molded asbestos opposing cast iron/ steel surface.

This paper analyzes the performance of the full duplex relaying (FDR) based cooperative communication system in a multi-cell environment. In multi-cell environment the FDR is prone to co-channel interferers due to higher reuse of the frequency. Owing to the possibility of imperfect mitigation at the relay we, in this paper, model the self-interference (or echo-interference) channel, which exists between the transmitting and the receiving antennas of the relay, as a fading channel with Nakagami-m fading distribution. For the decode and forward (DF) relay, we analyze the error performance and derive an exact closed form expression of the average bit error rate (BER). Further, an exact closed form expression for outage probability of the considered system is also obtained.

In this paper, performance analysis of an induction motor drive employing a loss minimization algorithm (LMA) is presented. As the induction motors are not designed to impart high efficiency under partial loading conditions, proposed LMA is used to improve the efficiency under such load conditions. For the efficiency improvement LMA uses the rotor flux as a control variable. Mathematical model of induction motor in field-oriented frame, including proposed loss model is derived. The complete drive system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software for different operating conditions. Simulation results obtained shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in partial loading conditions.

In this paper, a novel fractional fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative controller (FFPID) is proposed. The proposed controller combines the effect of fractional-order PID (FOPID) control with fuzzy logic control (FLC) to obtain a robust and effective controller. All the five parameters are first tuned using Genetic Algorithm. Fine tuning of the integer-order parameters is then done using Fuzzy logic controller. Combining these two techniques, results in a new controller called fractional fuzzy PID controller. The effectiveness and robustness of the new methodology is illustrated by applying the proposed controller on two fractional order systems; viz control of a fractional-order-system and a fractional-order plant with dead time. It is observed that the performance of the proposed controller provides better control as compared to that of PID and FOPID controllers.

Use of powder metallurgy processed (PM) electrode in electrical discharge machining (EDM) has emerged as an alternate tooling option with a view to impart improved surface properties to the work surface. Preliminary investigation with CuW PM electrode using Taguchi method was done on Inconel 718 to obtain best parameter settings for higher the better surface roughness. In the present work surface micro hardness study and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was performed on the machined surface at the best parameter setting and comparison was done with the surface machined using conventional copper electrode. It was observed that the micro hardness of the machined surface was improved from 380.9 HV of the base metal to 496.7 HV of the surface machined with powder metallurgy processed electrode. XRD analysis revealed the formation of Fe2W3C6 phase on the machined surface causing remarkable improvement in the surface micro hardness.

In this paper, we consider the problem of maximizing the lifetime of a sensor network in which the sensors nodes are equipped with dissimilar amount of energy. Here we propose a network model in which the node heterogeneity in term of energy has been incorporated. The proposed network model contains three tier node heterogeneity namely, tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 heterogeneity. We deploy the nodes in three dimension, which are assumed to be stationary and distributed uniformly over the monitoring region. The simulation results demonstrate that our proposed heterogeneous algorithm is more effective in prolonging the network lifetime as compared to the 3D-ADEEPS.
