Upholding the privacy of data has gathered increased interest in the current industrial scenario. The databases that hold personal information and the individuals' choices of privacy are often subjected to attacks from mischievous sources which try to access undisclosed data. The means used to achieve such ends may be in the form of complex queries that combine sensitive data with the non-sensitive ones. Access Control mechanisms are already in place to prevent such malicious accesses. But the problem is highly compounded when there is a functional dependency among some of the attributes of the data. In such cases often the disclosed data of one person allows the user to infer the undisclosed data of another person. In this paper we propose a model to prevent the breach of privacy through such inference channels of functional dependency. Then we describe the architecture of our model and the corresponding implementation. Finally we carry out a performance analysis to evaluate the cost overheads of time and space and look out topics for future research. ©2009 IEEE.

This article presents a voltage-mode universal biquadratic filter (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass functions), based on current controlled current conveyor transconductance amplifiers (CCCCTAs). The features of the circuit are that: the quality factor and pole frequency can be tuned orthogonally via the input bias currents: the circuit description is very simple, consisting of merely 3 CCCCTAs and 2 grounded capacitors. Without any external resistors, requiring no component matching conditions, and using only grounded elements, the proposed circuit is very appropriate to further develop into an integrated circuit. Moreover, the proposed circuit enables easy cascading in voltage-mode, due to high-input impedances. The PSPICE simulation results are depicted. The given results agree well with the theoretical anticipation. The power consumption is approximately 4.08mW at ±2.5V power supply voltages.

A complex diffusion process based on Schriidinger wave equation is proposed and implemented as a nonlinear filter to perform homomorphic filtering for reducing speckle noise from digital images. Due to the multiplicative and complex nature of speckle noise it becomes practically difficult to restore a degraded image, hence a homomorphic filtering approach is used for the reduction of the same. The homomorphic filtering refers to applying logarithm transformation on input image to convert the multiplicative noise to additive one, applying complex diffusion based inverse filter and finally taking the exponential of filter output to produce the restored image. For digital implementations, the proposed PDE is discretized using finite difference scheme. For software implementation MATLAB 7.0 was used and performance of the proposed scheme was evaluated for different speckle noise variance of the gray test images both qualitatively and quantitatively and the results obtained justify the applicability of proposed scheme.

Steganography is the science of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one apart from the sender and intended recipient even realizes if there is any hidden message. Most of the research done before in this area is focussed on images, audios, and videos but a less amount of work has been done on MS Word documents which is identified with certain shortcomings. One of the major shortcoming in the previous method being large number of degenerations which were produced to embed a message, making it susceptible to active warden attack. This paper proposes to mitigate the shortcoming of the previous approach by decreasing the number of degenerations for the same. Experimental results will show the feasibility of our approach.

Biometrics has carved an important place in the field of identification and authentication. Identification in biometrics includes various applications like face recognition. There are scads of work done in the area of face recognition but we feel that there is not much of work has been done in the field of age determination. The age determination technique is useful to determine the age of an unknown body found in criminal activities or in lost and found cases using offline face recognition. The aging process not only depends on the person's biological aspect such as genes but may also depend on physical aspect such as wrinkles on the person's face. In this paper a novel technique is proposed to determine the age of a person by analysing the wrinkles present on his/her face. A framework has been designed which is based on the principle that the age of a person varies proportionally with the depth of wrinkles. The experimental result obtained found out to have 20% error which is within practical limits.

The novel representation of the graph using edge based data structure, as proposed in [1] is an adapted version of half edge structure, traditionally used in digital geometry processing [6]. This edge based data structure provides an efficient way for storing and accessing graphs. However the shortest path algorithm implemented in [1] on the above mentioned data structure proves to be inefficient when dealing with extensive graphs with varying scales and degrees. The main concern is to minimize the time and space overheads involved, as they take a great toll on system resources. The short comings associated with the above mentioned approach acted as our motivation. In this paper, we present an approach based on greedy and intuitionist programming strategies, which derives advantages from heuristics that apply to all kinds of graph, hence achieving greater efficiency. This aspect of the algorithm is also borne out by the experimental conclusions we have obtained.

With the advent of new digital media and low cost computers which are connected to each other, the educational system needs better ways of teaching children. Recently, games on computers and other digital media are being explored as a possible medium of imparting education. The existing games however are either developed for entertainment purposes only or have a limited focus in aiding the children learn according to the existing curriculum. This paper describes our attempt at combining story-telling with collaborative game-play to achieve better learning with FoodForce2. FoodForce2 is an attempt which aims at providing a holistic view towards learning by inculcating moral values and other cognitive skills. The effect of imparting education through this interactive platform is compared with the conventional methods of teaching and the feedback and results obtained from various school visits have been documented in the form of graphs.

Researchers are always finding out new and innovative ways to impart education. Recently, games on computers and other digital media are being explored as a possible medium of imparting education. The existing games however focus only on sharpening mental abilities of participants. The authors however believe that by harnessing the power of computers combined with the effectiveness of compelling stories and collaborative game-play, better learning can be achieved. This paper looks at a novel educational platform namely FoodForce2 which aims at providing a holistic view towards learning. It aims at inculcating moral values and other cognitive skills through an interesting game-play and customized stories. The paper describes the educational platform and also the effect of imparting education through this interactive platform in comparison to the conventional methods of teaching. The results obtained from various school visits have been documented in the form of graphs.

In this paper we focus on the problem of constructing an optimal broadcast tree rooted at a given source node that maximizes the network lifetime from the view point of number of messages broadcasted during the network lifetime. We define the network lifetime as the lifetime of the node in the network which exhausts its energy at the earliest. We propose improvements over the broadcast incremental power (BIP) protocol in two phases (algorithms). The first algorithm assumes that the network is heterogeneous with different devices having different initial battery energy level and the second one assumes the network to be composed of devices with equal initial energies. These algorithms build upon the broadcast nature of the wireless communication environment - a message broadcasted from a given node reaches all the nodes that are within the sphere defined by the transmitting range of the node as radius. We have also provided the simulation results to testify our claims. The results further prove the superior performance of the proposed improved BIP algorithm.
