In ad hoc networks the association and disassociation of mobile nodes to and from the clusters perturb the stability of the network and thus reconfiguration of clusterheads is unavoidable. This is an important issue since the frequent clusterhead changes adversely affect the performance of other protocols. This paper proposes a weight based adaptive clustering algorithm (WBACA) that leads to a high degree of stability in the network. The proposed WBACA takes into account the transmission power, transmission rate, mobility, battery power and the degree of a node for forming clusters. Through simulations we have compared the performance of WBACA with that of the lowest-ID algorithm and the weighted clustering algorithm (WCA) in terms of the number of clusters formed, number of clusterhead changes, and the number of reaffiliations. We also study the operation and performance of the proposed scheme through detailed simulations, evaluating the control overheads, throughput, and average packet transfer delay in the network.

A compressed domain color-based image indexing method that avoids overheads associated with full decompression and color space transformation by operating in the YCbCr space has been presented. The proposed method performs a hard segmentation of the color space into predefined clusters based on perceptual similarity. A three dimensional color descriptor is generated by extracting the average intensity value of the Y, Cb and Cr components for each 8times8 DCT block. Each blocks descriptor is subsequently allocated to its corresponding cluster, whose centroid is updated using a weighted mean. The similarity measure is evaluated using a compact four dimensional feature vector from each cluster, which consists of the quantized centroid coordinates and the percentage contribution to the image composition by the cluster. Retrieval is performed by comparing the feature attributes of the clusters having significant membership in the query image, to those with the database images; the obtained matches are then integrated to evaluate the final ranking. Message security is of paramount importance in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) due to several reasons including their applications in situations such as emergencies, crisis management, military and healthcare. However, because of the absence of a fixed infrastructure with a designated centralized access point, implementation of hard-cryptographic security is a challenging prospect. In this paper, we present a method of message security using trust-based multi-path routing. In this approach, less trusted nodes are given lower number of self-encrypted parts of a message, thereby making it difficult for malicious nodes to gain access to the minimum information required to break through the encryption strategy. Using trust levels, we make multi-path routing flexible enough to be usable in networks with ‘vital’ nodes and absence of necessary redundancy. In addition, using trust levels, we avoid non-trusted routes that may use of brute force attacks and may decrypt messages if enough parts of the message are available to them.

This paper deals with model of battery energy operated system for a 42.5kVA DG set using Simulink and Power System Block-set in MATLAB environment. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is employed for compensation along with a small synchronous generator of 42.5kVA capacity coupled to a diesel engine as a prime mover. The DG set feeds a wide variety of loads. The performance of the system is simulated for linear, non-linear balanced and unbalanced loads. Simulation results justify enhanced power quality of the system with BESS application.

This paper takes up a special kind of sensor network called mobile ad hoc bio-sensor networks and measures the throughput of such networks and suggests ways in which the throughput can be increased. It was found, that, to increase the throughput, no sophisticated routing techniques or expensive transmission techniques are needed. This can be achieved by simply adopting the appropriate motion trajectories/start patterns of the nodes, which, of course, do not come in the way of the basic functionality of the network.
