SRS document is the first deliverable product/milestone in the software development process and acts as a basis for the formal contract between the user and the developer of the software of an information system. This document is written in natural language and reflects the problem (computation) complexity of the system. We felt that there was a need to measure this complexity since little effort has been made towards the measurement of this complexity;and then deriving estimates from the SRS. In this work, we define a problem complexity metric, which measures the strength(s) of the requirements specified with in the SRS document, in terms of their inter-dependencies. This metric will be used in future works to derive various estimates related to the development of software. To arrive at this metric, a requirements model has been proposed that provides the necessary base for the measurement. The work has been supported with the successful calculation of this metric for a real life example.

This paper describes a novel method of estimating infinitely supported wavelet matched to a signal. The method is based on maximizing the projection of a given signal onto the scaling subspace. This results in energy minimization of the signal in the wavelet subspace so that it can be considered as additional/finer information in the wavelet subspace. Based on this approach, first, the analysis wavelet filter is extracted from given signal. Next, the dual scaling filter is computed by considering orthogonal scaling and wavelet subspace. Corresponding to these FIR analysis filters, synthesis filters are computed. But to satisfy the property of Perfect Reconstruction, resulting synthesis filters are IIR filters that are implemented as anticausal but stable filters. This result in infinitely supported wavelet matched to a given signal.

In the last decade or so, a large number of researchers have focused their attention on estimation of wavelet matched to a given signal. This paper proposes a new method for estimating compactly supported wavelet from a given signal. The method is based on maximizing the projection of a given signal onto the scaling subspace. This results in energy minimization of the signal in the wavelet subspace so that it can be considered as additional/finer information in the wavelet subspace. Based on this approach, first the analysis wavelet filter is extracted from given signal. Next, analysis scaling filter and synthesis filters are designed such that resulting 2-Band filter bank structure consists of FIR filters that satisfy the property of perfect reconstruction. This leads to the design of compactly supported wavelet. The proposed method is very simple and it is shown that a wavelet, with desired support as well as desired number of vanishing moments, can be designed from a given signal. Simulation results to validate the theory are presented for I-D signals.

The joint India–USA symposium was held at The Ohio State University in December 2001 and focused on basic research issues and trends in the general area of vibration and noise engineering. Over 100 delegates and observers participated, including delegates from 19 academic institutions, 18 industrial companies and seven national agencies. Fifteen delegates traveled from India. Overall, 55 articles including state-of-the-art papers were presented on a variety of topics. Papers selected for the 3-day meeting dealt with advanced problem-solving strategies, experimental and computational structural dynamics, intake and exhaust systems, aerospace applications, non-linear dynamics, structure-borne noise and vibration isolation, vibration and acoustic materials, statistical energy analysis, smart structures, turbo-machinery vibration, smart materials and active control, and machinery vibration and acoustics. The impact of new and emerging technologies was illustrated through case studies and personal experiences. In addition, interactive workshops with potential sponsors added an important element to this symposium with key experts from industry and government agencies highlighting their research needs and vision. The Symposium is expected to stimulate further research and collaboration between the two countries. Selected articles (20 including this report) are published in the special edition of the Journal of Sound and Vibration for archival purposes and for dissemination to the global noise and vibration control community.
In this paper, we propose a stochastic model for hardware software cosynthesis of a heterogeneous, multiprocessor computing system dedicated for a specied real time application. In this model, the task execution times...

The Unix "curses" library provides terminal independent capability for designing user interfaces (UI) on 80/spl times/25 resolution character terminals. UI designers have to put a lot of effort into design and producing good and effective UI using complex curses library calls. The authors propose the architecture of a tool for the curses library. This tool equips the UI designer with an automatic code generation facility for the curses library through graphical system specification. The UI designer will be able to input user needs graphically, and the tool will in turn generate the code.
