The patient health prediction system is the most critical study in medical research. Several prediction models exist to predict the patient's health condition. However, a relevant result was not attained because of poor quality. The IoT-sensed data contains more noise content, which maximizes the complexity of the health prediction. These demerits resulted in low prediction and performance scores. So the proposed work aims to develop a novel Coati-based Recurrent Digital Twin Framework (CbRDTF) to predict the patients' health conditions. The novelty of this research lies in the combined function of the coati optimization and recurrent network with the digital twin for health prediction. Initially, the IoT-sensed data was imported, the data were preprocessed, and meaningful features were selected. Then predict the health condition of the patients and classify the conditions. Here the incorporated coati function at the classification layer extracted the relevant features from the sensed medical data for the robust prediction and also modified the parameters of the recurrent digital twin to improve the prediction and classification accuracy. Finally, the performance was measured;the presented model attained a high exactness score of 99.81% in the prediction accuracy, recall, f-value, and precision;it also, validated the computation time of 611.81 s. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a potent stochastic evolutionary optimization algorithm garnering increasing research attention. Over the years, it has been found applicable in solving diverse real-world problems. DE employs mutation, crossover, and selection operators to guide populations toward optimal or nearly optimal solutions. However, the standard DE mutation strategies have found limitations in balancing exploration and exploitation effectively, thus prompting research into possible improvements. This study introduces a novel mutation strategy named Chebyshev Infused Chaos Mutation Strategy (CICMS). where a chaotic sequence partially guides the process of donor vector generation. Rigorous evaluations were conducted, comparing our modified DE against the standard DE and seven other metaheuristic algorithms, including Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm. Experiments were performed using the challenging CEC 2014 benchmark functions, consisting of 30 objective functions. Results indicate substantial improvements in convergence speed and solution quality, highlighting the potential of our novel mutation strategy to enhance DE’s practicality in addressing complex optimization problems. This research contributes valuable insights to the dynamic field of optimization algorithms with implications for a wide range of applications. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Leveraging Transfer Learning for Efficient Diagnosis of COPD Using CXR Images and Explainable AI Techniques

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a predominant global health concern, ranking third in mortality rates, yet frequently remains undiagnosed until its advanced stages. Given its prevalence, the need for innovative and widely accessible diagnostic tools has never been more paramount. While spirometry tests serve as conventional diagnostic benchmarks, their reach remains limited, especially in regions with constrained medical resources. The presented research harnesses deep learning algorithms to facilitate early-stage COPD detection, specifically targeting Chest X-rays (CXRs). The clinically annotated VinDR-CXR dataset provides the primary foundation for model training, complemented by incorporating the ChestX-ray14 dataset for initial model pre-training. Such a dualdataset strategy augments model generalization and adaptability. Among several explored Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures, the Xception model emerges as a frontrunner. Through transfer learning methodologies, this model produces a noteworthy recall rate of 98.2%, markedly surpassing the metrics of the ResNet50 model. Recognizing the imperative for transparency in AI applications in medical imaging, the research integrates essential explainability approaches viz: Gradient Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). These techniques elucidate the AI’s decision-making process, offering invaluable visual and analytical insights for fostering trust among medical professionals. In essence, this study not only underscores the potential of integrating AI with medical imaging for COPD detection but also accentuates the pivotal role of transparency in AI-driven medical interventions. © IBERAMIA and the authors.

Feedback-based trust module for IoT networks using machine learning

The increasing emergence of IoT in healthcare, industrial automation, manufacturing, infrastructure, business and the home undoubtedly provides more conveniences in different aspects of human life. Any IoT security and trust solution must consider the heterogeneity and mobility of IoT devices, and the features of other devices connected to the network. Traditional security measures face computation, storage and communication challenges in securing IoT, and the increasing reliance on IoT services and applications has exacerbated this issue. It is crucial to identify a security management model to handle these constraints. Trust as a security regime in the IoT has far-reaching implications. This paper proposes a novel trust-based security mechanism by combining machine learning and traditional summations to determine a node’s trustworthiness in an IoT environment in milliseconds. Based on this, a computational trust management model is designed by aggregating direct and feedback-based trust information. The model parameters like the trust breach window and trust re-initiation point are selected based on extensive experimentation to dynamically calculate each node’s trust value to reach the proposed model’s peak performance. The model’s effectiveness is verified through simulation. In 500 iterations, the proposed model achieved 97% accuracy with a run time of 0.37 seconds. Copyright © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Exploring ensemble optimized voting and stacking classifiers through Cross-validation for early detection of suicidal ideation

Detecting behavioral changes associated with suicidal ideation on social media is essential yet complex. While machine learning and deep learning hold promise in this regard, current studies often lack generalizability due to single dataset reliance. Traditional embedding techniques struggle with semantic analysis,leading to challenges in achieving high accuracy models and conventional validation methods have data drift limitations. To address these challenges, this study proposes a novel evaluation approach using natural language processing across diverse platforms like Twitter and Reddit. By integrating BERT embedding, adept at handling semantic nuances, with an optimized Stacked Classifier combining different base classifiers and XGBoost as the meta-classifier, the model excels in swiftly detecting signs of suicidal ideation compared to the Voting Classifier, i.e., the combination of Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boost and XGBoost and several machine learning models. Additionally, the study explores advanced embedding techniques like MUSE and LLM, and deep learning models including Bi-LSTM, Bi-GRU, and Text-CNN for *** ensemble approach aims to create a model that is not only interpretable but also robust, reducing computational complexity and enhancing resilience against noisy data - common challenges faced in text classification tasks. Through K-fold validation, which involves partitioning the dataset into k equal-sized subsets or "folds"and training the model k times, using k-1 folds for training and one-fold for testing each time, the proposed model achieves impressive accuracy rates of 97% on Reddit and 96% on Twitter datasets, underscoring its effectiveness in identifying suicidal ideation across social media platforms. © 2024 - IOS Press. ImageNet Classification Using WordNet Hierarchy

Convolutional neural networks (ConvNets) have become increasingly popular for image classification tasks. All contemporary computer vision problems are being dominated by ConvNets. Conventional training methods using cross-entropy loss for training have constantly outperformed the state-of-the-art technique to set a new standard in the ImageNet classification challenge. However, growing accuracy come at the cost of enormous number of parameters and computations. Further, classical learning algorithms do not utilize the semantic relationship between the classes present in the dataset. Thus, interpreting the behavior of the model become difficult even though the results may be desirable. Hence, we demonstrate a classification method by leveraging the WordNet hierarchy on the ImageNet dataset to establish class relationships and label embedding. The model is trained using cross entropy with soft labels based on the semantic similarity between the generated output and the ground truth. Unlike categorical cross entropy, it does not treat every predicted label as equally erroneous. The method generates meaningful neighboring classes in the feature space of the true label. © 2020 IEEE.

Diabetic retinopathy detection by fundus images using fine tuned deep learning model

This study employs transfer learning using a fine-tuned pretrained EfficientNetB0 convolutional neural network (CNN) model to accurately detect the various stages of Diabetic Retinopathy. The training process involved utilizing three datasets: Messidor, IDRiD (Indian Diabetic Retinopathy Detection), and APTOS 2019 Blindness Detection, which collectively encompassed 5,379 fundus images. Different types of processed fundus images were fed into the model to determine the optimal pre-processing approach for stage detection in Diabetic Retinopathy. The model was assessed on the original dataset with some augmentation techniques applied. According to the training data, the model achieved a maximum accuracy of 72%. However, converting the dataset to grayscale yielded an improved accuracy of 80%. Similarly, extracting the green, red, and blue channels individually resulted in accuracies of 72%, 76%, and 73% respectively. Notably, when the green channel extracted images underwent histogram equalization, the model achieved its highest accuracy of 83%. Furthermore, the application of a Sobel filter to the red channel images led to a maximum accuracy of 51%. Finally, to determine the effectiveness of each processed image type, sensitivity and specificity measures were compared. Among all the variations, the green channel extracted images with histogram equalization demonstrated superior performance in correctly identifying the respective classes, outperforming the other approaches. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Resource scheduling in cloud environment using particle swarm search algorithm

Cloud computing has gained significant popularity as a platform for processing large-scale data analytics, offering benefits such as high availability, robustness, and cost-effectiveness. However, job scheduling in cloud systems presents a major challenge, as it directly impacts execution time and operational costs. To address these issues, this paper presents a novel multi-adaptive convergent particle swarm optimisation (MAC-PSO) algorithm designed to decrease the failure rate, minimise makespan values, and enhance resource utilisation. The round Robin scheduling method aids in task execution by determining the appropriate time-space allocation. The proposed algorithm’s performance is compared to that of the TLBO algorithm, demonstrating that MAC-PSO outperforms both TLBO and the original PSO. Moreover, a comprehensive analysis is proposed to evaluate the performance metrics within the MAC-PSO algorithm. Notably, MAC-PSO effectively increases the ratio of solutions that dominate previous algorithmic approaches and identifies a greater number of solutions that cater to user preferences.
