Segment Anything Model (SAM) has recently gained much attention for its outstanding generalization to unseen data and tasks. Despite its promising prospect, the vulnerabilities of SAM, especially to universal adversarial perturbation (UAP) have not been thoroughly investigated yet. In this paper, we propose DarkSAM, the first prompt-free universal attack framework against SAM, including a semantic decoupling-based spatial attack and a texture distortion-based frequency attack. We first divide the output of SAM into foreground and background. Then, we design a shadow target strategy to obtain the semantic blueprint of the image as the attack target. DarkSAM is dedicated to fooling SAM by extracting and destroying crucial object features from images in both spatial and frequency domains. In the spatial domain, we disrupt the semantics of both the foreground and background in the image to confuse SAM. In the frequency domain, we further enhance the attack effectiveness by distorting the high-frequency components (i.e., texture information) of the image. Consequently, with a single UAP, DarkSAM renders SAM incapable of segmenting objects across diverse images with varying prompts. Experimental results on four datasets for SAM and its two variant models demonstrate the powerful attack capability and transferability of DarkSAM. Network programming is the act of writing computer codes for communications between programs or processes in different computers across networks. It is crucial for applications and services using networks, including e-commerce, gaming, and social media. However, university courses of educating it are very limited. As a result, it has become important to develop and offer IT tools to support self-studies of network programming by novices. In this paper, we present a study of two types of introductory exercise problems, namely, Grammar-concept Understanding Problem (GUP) and Comment Insertion Problem (CIP), for self-studies of five basic network protocols of TCP/IP, ARP, SMTP, POP3, and SSH with Python. A GUP instance requests to answer the keyword such as a library function in the given source code that corresponds to the grammar concept described in the question. A CIP instance requests to insert the comment at each blank of the code. String matching is adopted to mark any answer at the browser-based answer interface. Through solving them, it is expected to understand the meaning of important words and the code structure for network programming. As preliminary evaluations, we generated six GUP and CIP instances respectively, and assigned them to 10 students in Okayama University, Japan. The results confirmed that the proposal is proper for novices to learn network programming with Python. © 2023 ACM.

In recent years, the global repercussions of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants have posed significant challenges to various areas, including the economic order, transportation, healthcare, and education, and the mitigation and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 and other infectious diseases have received much attention. This paper tries to develop a rational and effective intervention strategy in response to the dynamic evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. To address this issue, we first use the SEIR model to analyze the population distribution under the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, and then integrate a deep Q-neural network (DQN) to reflect an economic quantification model contextualized within the SARS-CoV-2 scenario. Next, we propose an evolutionary deep reinforcement learning to generate an optimal and adaptive intervention strategy, by optimizing the weight sequence of the DQN. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in maximizing economic benefits, while ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of medical institutions. Importantly, the learned intervention strategy exhibits the applicability to other infectious diseases.

Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Aptamers are single-stranded DNA or RNA oligonucleotides that selectively bind to specific targets, making them valuable for drug design and diagnostic applications. Identifying the interactions between aptamers and target proteins is crucial for these applications. The systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment process, traditionally used for this purpose, is challenging and time-consuming. The resulting aptamers often suffer from limitations in stability and diversity. Computational approaches have shown promise in aiding the discovery of high-performance aptamers, but existing methods are usually constrained by insufficient training data and limited generalizability. Recently, advancements in pre-training large language models have offered a new avenue to mitigate the dependency on large datasets. In this study, we propose a novel method to predict aptamer-protein interactions using large language models within a contrastive learning framework. Experimental results demonstrate that our method exhibits superior generalization and outperforms existing approaches. This method holds promise as a powerful tool for predicting aptamer-protein interactions.

This paper presents a processed phytoplankton dataset from Lake Zerendi and other Kokshetau Upland lakes, Kazakhstan. The study aimed to develop an automated method for controlling the distribution of phytoplankton in fresh open water using a gradient descent approach with the search for a starting point for research. The paper also presents the reconstructed biomass indicators for changes in water temperature, with model calibration based on results from 5 years of surface sampling. A special feature of the proposed computer data processing is the cubic spline interpolation, which allows a higher calculation accuracy. This method reduces the sample size required, providing a comprehensive picture of the condition of the infrastructure and allowing for a more efficient response to emerging ecosystem issues. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

As the mean-time-between-failures(MTBF)continues to decline with the increasing number of components on large-scale high performance computing(HPC)systems,program failures might occur during the execution period with high *** successful execution of the HPC programs has become an issue that the unprivileged users should be *** the user perspective,if the program failure cannot be detected and handled in time,it would waste resources and delay the progress of program ***,the unprivileged users are unable to perform program state checking due to execution control by the job management system as well as the limited ***,automated tools for supporting user-level failure detection and autorecovery of parallel programs in HPC systems are *** paper proposes an innovative method for the unprivileged user to achieve failure detection of job execution and automatic resubmission of failed *** state checker in our method is encapsulated as an independent job to reduce interference with the user *** addition,we propose a dual-checker mechanism to improve the robustness of our *** implement the proposed method as a tool named automatic re-launcher(ARL)and evaluate it on the Tianhe-2 *** results show that ARL can detect the execution failures effectively on Tianhe-2 *** addition,the communication and performance overhead caused by ARL is *** good scalability of ARL makes it applicable for large-scale HPC systems.

This paper discusses the critical decision process of extracting or selecting the features in a supervised learning context. It is often confusing to find a suitable method to reduce dimensionality. There are pros and cons to deciding between a feature selection and feature extraction according to the data’s nature and the user’s preferences. Indeed, the user may want to emphasize the results toward integrity or interpretability and a specific data resolution. This paper proposes a new method to choose the best dimensionality reduction method in a supervised learning context. It also helps to drop or reconstruct the features until a target resolution is reached. This target resolution can be user defined, or it can be automatically defined by the method. The method applies a regression or a classification, evaluates the results, and gives a diagnosis about the best dimensionality reduction process in this specific supervised learning context. The main algorithms used are the random forest algorithms, the principal component analysis algorithm, and the multilayer perceptron neural network algorithm. Six use cases are presented, and every one is based on some well-known technique to generate synthetic data. This research also discusses each choice that can be made in the process, aiming to clarify the issues about the entire decision process of selecting or extracting the features. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The main objective of this work was to find the association rules between factors affecting user satisfaction in software project by using an association rule discovery technique. Data from 191 software projects were collected and association rules between 15 Selected factors were discovered by FP-growth algorithm. Primarily, 281 association rules were discovered. Rules that were not directly related to user satisfaction were filtered out by simple criteria. In the end, 11 final association rules that passed those criteria were obtained with an average confidence value of 65.30%. These rules can incorporated in the planning and administration of a software project to gain utmost user satisfaction © 2021 IEEE.

Text classification, a fundamental task in natural language processing (NLP), aims to categorize textual data into predefined labels. Traditional methods struggled with complex linguistic structures and semantic dependencies. The advent of deep learning, particularly recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and Transformer-based models, has significantly advanced the field by enabling nuanced feature extraction and context-aware predictions. Despite improvements, existing models exhibit limitations in balancing interpretability, computational efficiency, and long-range contextual understanding. This paper proposes the Dynamic Bidirectional Elman with Attention Network (DBEAN), which integrates bidirectional temporal modelling with self-attention mechanisms. DBEAN dynamically assigns weights to critical segments of input, improving contextual representation while maintaining computational efficiency. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
