Blockchain is a developing and promising field in transaction and identity management. Recent efforts have been underway to address issues of data insecurity and inefficiency presented by centralized systems. Philippine government agencies, like the Land Transportation Office (LTO), traditionally store information in centralized databases, which can be susceptible to unauthorized access. This study makes the case of decentralizing certain LTO online procedures, starting with driver’s license application, as well as identity management using blockchain technology. With an immutable, distributed ledger system, it aims to introduce security, transparency, and efficiency into the system through a proof-of-concept web application. It demonstrates that not only certain LTO procedures can be decentralized, but also the management of license ID, more specifically the selective disclosure of information to requesting parties. The design presented here lays the groundwork for developing a decentralized application through Hyperledger Fabric and Indy, leveraging features like consensus mechanisms, verifiable credentials (VCs), and self-sovereign identity (SSI). The initial evaluation of the design using Hyperledger Caliper sets the stage for further research on decentralization, scalability, and efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Federated Collaborative Graph Neural Networks for Few-shot Graph Classification

Graph neural networks(GNNs)have achieved state-of-the-art performance on graph classification tasks,which aim to pre-dict the class labels of entire graphs and have widespread ***,existing GNN based methods for graph classification are data-hungry and ignore the fact that labeling graph examples is extremely expensive due to the intrinsic *** import-antly,real-world graph data are often scattered in different *** by these observations,this article presents federated collaborative graph neural networks for few-shot graph classification,termed *** its owned graph examples,each client first trains two branches to collaboratively characterize each graph from different views and obtains a high-quality local few-shot graph learn-ing model that can generalize to novel categories not seen while *** each branch,initial graph embeddings are extracted by any GNN and the relation information among graph examples is incorporated to produce refined graph representations via relation aggrega-tion layers for few-shot graph classification,which can reduce over-fitting while learning with scarce labeled graph ***,multiple clients owning graph data unitedly train the few-shot graph classification models with better generalization ability and effect-ively tackle the graph data island *** experimental results on few-shot graph classification benchmarks demonstrate the ef-fectiveness and superiority of our proposed framework.

In recent years, the global repercussions of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants have posed significant challenges to various areas, including the economic order, transportation, healthcare, and education, and the mitigation and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 and other infectious diseases have received much attention. This paper tries to develop a rational and effective intervention strategy in response to the dynamic evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. To address this issue, we first use the SEIR model to analyze the population distribution under the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, and then integrate a deep Q-neural network (DQN) to reflect an economic quantification model contextualized within the SARS-CoV-2 scenario. Next, we propose an evolutionary deep reinforcement learning to generate an optimal and adaptive intervention strategy, by optimizing the weight sequence of the DQN. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in maximizing economic benefits, while ensuring the uninterrupted functionality of medical institutions. Importantly, the learned intervention strategy exhibits the applicability to other infectious diseases. © 2024 IEEE.

Random sample partition(RSP)is a newly developed big data representation and management model to deal with big data approximate computation *** research and practical applications have confirmed that RSP is an efficient solution for big data processing and ***,a challenge for implementing RSP is determining an appropriate sample size for RSP data *** a large sample size increases the burden of big data computation,a small size will lead to insufficient distribution information for RSP data *** address this problem,this paper presents a novel density estimation-based method(DEM)to determine the optimal sample size for RSP data ***,a theoretical sample size is calculated based on the multivariate Dvoretzky-Kiefer-Wolfowitz(DKW)inequality by using the fixed-point iteration(FPI)***,a practical sample size is determined by minimizing the validation error of a kernel density estimator(KDE)constructed on RSP data blocks for an increasing sample ***,a series of persuasive experiments are conducted to validate the feasibility,rationality,and effectiveness of *** results show that(1)the iteration function of the FPI method is convergent for calculating the theoretical sample size from the multivariate DKW inequality;(2)the KDE constructed on RSP data blocks with sample size determined by DEM can yield a good approximation of the probability density function(p.d.f);and(3)DEM provides more accurate sample sizes than the existing sample size determination methods from the perspective of *** demonstrates that DEM is a viable approach to deal with the sample size determination problem for big data RSP implementation.

Leveraging user's preference and social circle for personalized recommendation via matrix factorization with sub-linear convergence rate

Recommender systems aim to filter information effectively and recommend useful sources to match users' requirements. However, the exponential growth of information in recent social networks may cause low prediction accuracy for recommendation systems. This article proposes a unified personalized recommendation architecture referred to as PSRec, which incorporates user preference and social relationship into matrix factorization framework. Specifically, PSRec generates two collections for textual reviews and contextual information respectively, and performs preference learning for each user via the Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic model. Moreover, PSRec exploits the inner relations within the social circle for recommendation, including direct trust relationship and indirect trust relationship. Additionally, it's certificated that PSRec can converge at a sub-linear rate via theoretical analysis. Experimental results over DoubanMovie, CiaoDVDs and Yelp demonstrate the superiority of the proposed PSRec, which can achieve significant improvements and provide much better user experience while compared with other benchmark models. © 2024 - IOS Press. Colored Petri nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model-checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced state-space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state-space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model-checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Background: In this Innovative Practice Work in Progress, we present our initial efforts to integrate formal methods, with a focus on model-checking specifications written in Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA+), into computer science education, targeting undergraduate juniors/seniors and graduate students. Many safety-critical systems and services crucially depend on correct and reliable behavior. Formal methods can play a key role in ensuring correct and safe system behavior, yet remain underutilized in educational and industry contexts. Aims: We aim to (1) qualitatively assess the state of formal methods in computer science programs, (2) construct level-appropriate examples that could be included midway into one's undergraduate studies, (3) demonstrate how to address successive 'failuresy' through progressively stringent safety and liveness requirements, and (4) establish an ongoing framework for assessing interest and relevance among students. Methods: We detail our pedagogical strategy for embedding TLA+ into an intermediate course on formal methods at our institution. After starting with a refresher on mathematical logic, students specify the rules of simple puzzles in TLA+ and use its included model checker (known as TLC) to find a solution. We gradually escalate to more complex, dynamic, event-driven systems, such as the control logic of a microwave oven, where students will study safety and liveness requirements. We subsequently discuss explicit concurrency, along with thread safety and deadlock avoidance, by modeling bounded counters and buffers. Results: Our initial findings suggest that through careful curricular design and choice of examples and tools, it is possible to inspire and cultivate a new generation of software engineers proficient in formal methods. Conclusions: Our initial efforts suggest that 84% of our students had a positive experience in our formal methods course. Migrant Resettlement by Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization

Migration has been a universal phenomenon, which brings opportunities as well as challenges for global development. As the number of migrants (e.g., refugees) increases rapidly, a key challenge faced by each country is the problem of migrant resettlement. This problem has attracted scientific research attention, from the perspective of maximizing the employment rate. Previous works mainly formulated migrant resettlement as an approximately submodular optimization problem subject to multiple matroid constraints and employed the greedy algorithm, whose performance, however, may be limited due to its greedy nature. In this article, we propose a new framework called migrant resettlement by evolutionary multiobjective optimization (MR-EMO), which reformulates migrant resettlement as a biobjective optimization problem that maximizes the expected number of employed migrants and minimizes the number of dispatched migrants simultaneously, and employs a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) to solve the biobjective problem. We implement MR-EMO using three MOEAs: the popular nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II), MOEA based on decomposition (MOEA/D) as well as the theoretically grounded global simple evolutionary multiobjective optimizer (GSEMO). To further improve the performance of MR-EMO, we propose a specific MOEA, called GSEMO using matrix-swap mutation and repair mechanism (GSEMO-SR), which has a better ability to search for feasible solutions. We prove that MR-EMO using either GSEMO or GSEMO-SR can achieve better theoretical guarantees than the previous greedy algorithm. Experimental results under the interview and coordination migration models clearly show the superiority of MR-EMO (with either NSGA-II, MOEA/D, GSEMO or GSEMO-SR) over previous algorithms, and that using GSEMO-SR leads to the best performance of MR-EMO. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper we propose a first empirical mapping between the RST-DT and the PDTB 3.0. We provide an original algorithm which allows the mapping of 6,510 (80.0%) explicit and implicit discourse relations between the overlapping articles of the RST-DT and PDTB 3.0 discourse annotated corpora. Results of the mapping show that while it is easier to align segments of implicit discourse relations, the mapping obtained between the aligned explicit discourse relations is more unambiguous. © 2023 Incoma Ltd.
