Enabling Generalized Zero-Shot Vulnerability Classification

Regarding computer security, the growth of code vulnerability types presents a persistent challenge. These vulnerabilities, which may cause severe consequences, necessitate precise classification for effective mitigation. However, the rapid emergence of new vulnerability types complicates the classification process. Traditional methodologies, which often involve human expertise and the manual labeling or generation of example instances, are not only resource-intensive but also struggle to adapt to the dynamic nature of these vulnerabilities. This paper introduces VulnSense, an innovative method that harnesses the capabilities of Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) to address the vulnerability classification problem. VulnSense learns about unseen vulnerability classes from the descriptions of these unseen classes, while not requiring to see any instances of these unseen classes. Specifically, VulnSense learns from three main resources: (1) seen classes with labeled code instances;(2) descriptions of these seen classes;and (3) descriptions of "unseen"classes which have no labeled instances. Our experiments underscore VulnSense's superiority over existing GZSL methods in classifying instances of unseen classes. Concurrently, it maintains a performance parity with traditional labeled-example based learning methods in classifying instances of seen vulnerabilities. VulnSense demonstrates the potential of using GZSL for vulnerability classification, while also highlighting challenges that inspire future work. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Few-shot medical image segmentation is a prominent area of collaborative medical technology research to support healthcare and homecare, but often grapples with challenges, such as the problem of local information loss in most of the current prototype-based methods. To mitigate this concern, we propose a novel Multi-Level Feature-Guided Network (MLFGNet) for few-shot medical image segmentation, which aims to enhance segmentation performance by extracting richer information from multi-level features. Specifically, A Multi-Feature Processing Module is proposed that utilizes hybrid attention mechanisms working together to efficiently learn more useful features. Furthermore, we design a Prediction Aggregation Module to aggregate multiple segmentation prediction maps by assigning appropriate weights, thereby effectively improving segmentation accuracy. Extensive experiments prove that our method exhibits favorable performance with respect to the state-of-the-art methods on two public datasets, including Abdominal-CT and Abdominal-MRI datasets.

Short-term multi-step-ahead sector-based traffic flow prediction based on the attention-enhanced graph convolutional LSTM network (AGC-LSTM)

Accurate sector-based air traffic flow predictions are essential for ensuring the safety and efficiency of the air traffic management (ATM) system. However, due to the inherent spatial and temporal dependencies of air traffic flow, it is still a challenging problem. To solve this problem, some methods are proposed considering the relationship between sectors, while the complicated spatiotemporal dynamics and interdependencies between traffic flow of route segments related to the sector are not taken into account. To address this challenge, the attention-enhanced graph convolutional long short-term memory network (AGC-LSTM) model is applied to improve the short-term sector-based traffic flow prediction, in which spatial structures of route segments related to the sector are considered for the first time. Specifically, the graph convolutional networks (GCN)-LSTM network model was employed to capture spatiotemporal dependencies of the flight data, and the attention mechanism is designed to concentrate on the informative features from key nodes at each layer of the AGC-LSTM model. The proposed model is evaluated through a case study of the typical enroute sector in the central–southern region of China. The prediction results show that MAE reduces by 14.4% compared to the best performing GCN-LSTM model among the other five models. Furthermore, the study involves comparative analyses to assess the influence of route segment range, input and output sequence lengths, and time granularities on prediction performance. This study helps air traffic managers predict flight situations more accurately and avoid implementing overly conservative or excessively aggressive flow management measures for the sectors. © The Author(s) 2024.

PIP: Perturbation-based Iterative Pruning for Large Language Models

The rapid increase in the parameter counts of Large Language Models (LLMs), reaching billions or even trillions, presents significant challenges for their practical deployment, particularly in resource-constrained environments. To ease this issue, we propose PIP (Perturbation-based Iterative Pruning), a novel double-view structured pruning method to optimize LLMs, which combines information from two different views: the unperturbed view and the perturbed view. With the calculation of gradient differences, PIP iteratively prunes those that struggle to distinguish between these two views. Our experiments show that PIP reduces the parameter count by approximately 20% while retaining over 85% of the original model’s accuracy across varied benchmarks. In some cases, the performance of the pruned model is within 5% of the unpruned version, demonstrating PIP’s ability to preserve key aspects of model effectiveness. Moreover, PIP consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) structured pruning methods, establishing it as a leading technique for optimizing LLMs in environments with constrained resources. This paper presents our Facial Action Units (AUs) detection submission to the fifth Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild Competition (ABAW). Our approach consists of three main modules: (i) a pre-trained facial representation encoder which produce a strong facial representation from each input face image in the input sequence;(ii) an AU-specific feature generator that specifically learns a set of AU features from each facial representation;and (iii) a spatio-temporal graph learning module that constructs a spatio-temporal graph representation. This graph representation describes AUs contained in all frames and predicts the occurrence of each AU based on both the modeled spatial information within the corresponding face and the learned temporal dynamics among frames. The experimental results show that our approach outperformed the baseline and the spatio-temporal graph representation learning allows our model to generate the best results among all ablated systems. Online payment fraud detection relies on a credible characterization of individual behaviors. Existing individual behavior profiling methods have three problems in credibility. Firstly, they solely regard users as individuals to model and fail to credibly characterize the whole behavior patterns of transactions. Secondly, they cannot make full use of the general information among similar individuals due to the heterogeneity of transaction attributes. Thirdly, they are not capable of utilizing the label information of transactions credibly. Faced with these challenges, we propose a credible method for individual behavior profiling that consists of two steps. The first step is the construction of the credible individual behavior profiling framework. To begin with, the concept of individuals is generalized and the credible transaction description is given. Afterwards, based on the co-occurrence information of transaction attributes, the credible behavior condition is defined to set a limit to individual behavior patterns. The second step is the implementation of the framework. For this purpose, the original fraud detection problem is transformed into a pseudo-recommender system problem with a co-occurrence mapping process. In order to guarantee the credible behavior constraint, a credible recommendation algorithm is designed to collaboratively restore both the ranking and rating information of the pseudo-rating matrices. Besides, an embedding based approach is adopted to parameterize the proposed model. Experiments on an online payment transaction dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. © 2021 ACM.

Various techniques have been developed for the identification of different types of requirements like interview, questionnaire, group elicitation techniques, attributed goal-oriented requirements analysis, fuzzy based goal-oriented requirements analysis method, non-functional requirements framework, etc. Based on the critical analysis of requirements elicitation methods, we found that single elicitation technique is not suitable to understand the need of the stakeholders. In real life applications, multiple elicitation techniques are required to elicit and select the requirements of an information system because each technique has its strength and limitations. Therefore, to address this issue, this paper presents a mathematical model for the selection of requirements elicitation techniques so that complete set of requirements along with its priority can be identified before the development of an information system. The institute examination system is considered to show the applicability of the proposed mathematical model.

In this paper, a refractive index(RI) sensor based on the twin-core photonic crystal fiber(TC-PCF) is presented. Introducing the rectangular array in the core area makes the PCF possible to obtain high birefringence and low confinement loss over the wavelength range from 0.6 μm to 1.7 μm. Therefore, the core region can enhance the interaction between the core mode and the filling material. We studied theoretically the evolution characteristics of the birefringence and operating wavelength corresponding to the strongest polarization point under the condition of filling the rectangular array with RI matching fluid range from 1.33 to 1.41. Simulation results reveal that the proposed TC-PCF has opposite evolutions of change rates between the B and wavelength, and the maximum RI sensing sensitivities of 1.809× 10-2 B/RIU and 8 700 nm/RIU at low and high RI infill are obtained respectively, which means that the TC-PCF features of dual-parameter demodulation for the RI sensing can maintain a high refractive index sensing sensitivity within a large scope of RI ranging from 1.33 to 1.41. Compared with the results of single-parameter demodulation, it is an optimized method to improve the sensitivity of low refractive index sensors, which has great application potency in the field of biochemical sensing and detection.
