High-fidelity imaging is crucial for the successful safety supervision and intelligent deployment of vision-based measurement systems (VBMS). It ensures high-quality imaging in VBMS, which is fundamental for reliable visual measurement and analysis. However, imaging quality can be significantly impaired by adverse weather conditions, particularly rain, leading to blurred images and reduced contrast. Such impairments increase the risk of inaccurate evaluations and misinterpretations in VBMS. To address these limitations, we propose an Expectation Maximization Reconstruction Transformer (EMResformer) for single image rain streak removal. The EMResformer retains the key self-attention values for feature aggregation, enhancing local features to produce superior image reconstruction. Specifically, we propose an Expectation Maximization Block seamlessly integrated into the single image rain streak removal network, enhancing its ability to eliminate superfluous information and restore a cleaner background image. Additionally, to further enhance local information for improved detail rendition, we introduce a Local Model Residual Block, which integrates two local model blocks along with a sequence of convolutions and activation functions. This integration synergistically facilitates the extraction of more pertinent features for enhanced single image rain streak removal. Extensive experiments validate that our proposed EMResformer surpasses current state-of-the-art single image rain streak removal methods on both synthetic and real-world datasets, achieving an improved balance between model complexity and single image deraining performance. Furthermore, we evaluate the effectiveness of our method in VBMS scenarios, demonstrating that high-quality imaging significantly improves the accuracy and reliability of VBMS tasks. Image captioning is a vision-language task that targets at describing an image by generating a coherent sentence automatically. This technology allows computers to understand and describe images like humans, enabling further processing of images. It combines computer vision and natural language processing, which has broad applications. This paper investigates the use of vision-language pre-trained models for image captioning. In this article, an encoder-decoder hybrid model based on PVT and BERT is pre-trained on a large number of image-text pairs, possessing both understanding and generation capabilities. It consists of three components: 1) an image encoder and a text encoder to extract image and text features respectively; 2) a multi-modal encoder to align the two modalities; and 3) a text decoder to generate text descriptions. This paper focuses on enhancing the image encoder of the model, which is crucial for image captioning models as it extracts high-resolution image features. Reducing training time and computational costs can also improve the applicability of pre-trained models. Improvements are made to the original model by modifying the ViT model architecture of the image encoding module. A feature pyramid structure and a spatial reduction attention mechanism is introduced to extract high-resolution image features while reducing computational complexity and memory usage, thereby enhancing the universality of the model. The model adopts a pure Transformer architecture, discarding the convolutional structure, and achieves excellent performance.

Addressing the challenge of limited labeled data in clinical settings, particularly in the prediction of fatty liver disease, this study explores the potential of graph representation learning within a semi-supervised learning framework. Leveraging graph neural networks (GNNs), our approach constructs a subject similarity graph to identify risk patterns from health checkup data. The effectiveness of various GNN approaches in this context is demonstrated, even with minimal labeled samples. Central to our methodology is the inclusion of human-centric explanations through explainable GNNs, providing personalized feature importance scores for enhanced interpretability and clinical relevance, thereby underscoring the potential of our approach in advancing healthcare practices with a keen focus on graph representation learning and human-centric explanation. © 2024, CC BY.

A Generalized Binary Tree Mechanism for Differentially Private Approximation of All-Pair Distances

We study the problem of approximating all-pair distances in a weighted undirected graph with differential privacy, introduced by Sealfon [Sea16]. Given a publicly known undirected graph, we treat the weights of edges as sensitive information, and two graphs are neighbors if their edge weights differ in one edge by at most one. We obtain efficient algorithms with significantly improved bounds on a broad class of graphs which we refer to as recursively separable. In particular, for any n-vertex Kh-minor-free graph, our algorithm achieve an additive error of Õ(h(nW)1/3), where W represents the maximum edge weight;For grid graphs, the same algorithmic scheme achieve additive error of Õ(n1/4√W). Our approach can be seen as a generalization of the celebrated binary tree mechanism for range queries, as releasing range queries is equivalent to computing all-pair distances on a path graph. In essence, our approach is based on generalizing the binary tree mechanism to graphs that are recursively separable. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The core of recommendation models is estimating the probability that a user will like an item based on historical interactions. Existing collaborative filtering(CF) algorithms compute the likelihood by utilizing simple relationships between objects, e.g., user-item, item-item, or user-user. They always rely on a single type of object-object relationship, ignoring other useful relationship information in data. In this paper, we model an interaction between user and item as an edge and propose a novel CF framework, called learnable edge collaborative filtering(LECF). LECF predicts the existence probability of an edge based on the connections among edges and is able to capture the complex relationship in data. Specifically, we first adopt the concept of line graph where each node represents an interaction edge; then calculate a weighted sum of similarity between the query edge and the observed edges(i.e., historical interactions) that are selected from the neighborhood of query edge in the line graph for a recommendation. In addition, we design an efficient propagation algorithm to speed up the training and inference of LECF. Extensive experiments on four public datasets demonstrate LECF can achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

Ultra High Definition Television (UHDTV) imposes extremely high throughput requirement on video encoders based on High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265/HEVC). HEVC adopt many advanced developed techniques in order to compress and decompress the video sequence for ensuring the real time requirements with keeping the quality. The decoded video is obtained according to the syntax elements language specified by the HEVC standard. Consequently, HEVC adopt 74 syntax elements at the low level which are divided into four partitions: including quad tree partitioning, intra and inter prediction, transform level, quantization and loop filtering. This work propose a profound study of HEVC low level syntax elements. The four partitions of syntax elements are defined, detailed and specified (role). After that, the encoding process and order of each syntax element is given by diagram blocks followed by an examples of encoding process syntax elements for 4x4 and 8x8 transform blocks (references blocks) by using Matlab ***, performance comparison of different benchmarks is given in order to highlights the decoding efficiency of HEVC compared it predecessor AVC (Advenced Video Coding). This work give the only detailed study that demonstrate the main functionality of the all intra syntax elements encoding process in CABAC HEVC. © 2022 IEEE.

In parallel with the proliferation and extension of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), as well as the diversity of their applications, such networks continue to fail to operate for lengthy periods of time due to node failure and the inability to replace sensor batteries in most circumstances. This hinders the networks' ability to remain operational over extended periods. That necessitates making the best and most efficient use of the nodes' energy. Hierarchical clustering methods augmented with metaphysical algorithms have produced amazing benefits in terms of network longevity. One of the most significant of these algorithms that draws inspiration from nature and yields excellent results is the simulated annealing technique. In this research, we report on our analysis of this method and how it performs best when used to optimize routing in WSN.

Health has recently faced many challenges, including improving a healthy environment and reducing human life's dangers and economic crises. The last pandemic COVID-19 had badly affected survivor sectors with infection and lockdown exigence. Scientists proposed several solutions to reduce the negative impact of a such pandemic by proposing systems for earlier detection of viruses. The use of metamaterials as an emerging technology in the biosensors field allows a high accuracy. This paper presents a method for detecting and capturing airborne viruses using metasurface technology. The goal is to develop a system that can identify and capture these viruses using FET sensors. The accuracy of the detection is tied to the concentration of aerosols. The model proposes a guided flow of aerosols that positively impacts the detection of viruses through the FET biosensor. The simulation results based on Concentration and airflow velocity delays prove the proposed model's performance. © 2022 IEEE.

In the domain of medical imaging, ensuring the security of confidential patient data stands as a paramount concern. The imperative for robust encryption to safeguard medical images against unauthorized access has driven the widespread adoption of the RSA algorithm, celebrated for its efficacy in data security assurance. This study specifically centers on the deployment of RSA-1024 cryptography on an Artix-7 FPGA, targeting applications in medical imaging. Acknowledging the demand for heightened security and accelerated processing, we have engineered RSA crypto-accelerators as hardware implementations of the RSA algorithm. We present a comprehensive methodology for implementing the 1024-bit RSA encryption/decryption algorithm, leveraging the square and multiply technique for modular exponentiation. Our algorithms are meticulously instantiated through VHDL code, tailored for execution on the Artix-7 xc7a35tcsg324-1 FPGA manufactured by Xilinx. Rigorous testing using the Vivado 2022.2 tool validates the functionality and dependability of our design. This research underscores the pivotal role of advanced cryptographic methodologies in safeguarding medical images and underscores the strides made in FPGA-based security solutions. © 2024 IEEE.

MCDS: An Effective Multi-UAV Collaborative Decision-Making system in Mobile Edge Computing Networks

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) pushes computing resources from the network center to the network edge to provide efficient and reliable computing services. However, due to the mobility and diversity of mobile users (MUs), edge servers (ESs) are likely to be overloaded, which leads to a rapid decline in the quality of service provided by the MEC system. This paper introduces unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to solve the problem of ES overload. This paper presents an effective Multi-UAV Collaborative Decision-Making system (MCDS) tailored to optimize task offloading and resource allocation in MEC networks. The proposed system seeks to reduce task computing delays and energy consumption while guaranteeing timely task completion and compliance with resource constraints. We design a distributed two-stage optimization algorithm to jointly optimize the task offloading decision and resource allocation of the collaborative computing system (UAVs, ESs, and MUs). To address the flight cooperation problem of multi-UAVs, we also proposed a task-aware scheduling algorithm for multi-UAVs. In addition, we conducted a large number of simulation experiments. Experimental results show that our two-stage optimization scheme is lower than other benchmark algorithms in terms of task completion delay, energy consumption and total cost of objective function. Specifically, compared with seven baseline algorithms under three different system setting scenarios, our algorithm reduces the total cost by an average of 38.79%, the energy consumption by an average of 40.70%, and the delay by an average of 15.67%. © 2014 IEEE.
