Multi-modal emotion recognition plays a vital role in the human-computer interaction (HCI) for consumer electronics. Nowadays, many studies have developed multi-modal fusion algorithms for this ***, two challenging issues remain unsolved, i.e., inefficient multi-modal feature fusion and unclear distance in feature *** this end, we develop a novel framework, namely LAFDA-Net, for cross-subject emotion recognition using EEG and eye movement *** is based on low-rank fusion and domain adaptation *** specifically, the multi-modal signals are input into the feature extraction branch in parallel to generate ***, these features are fused by the low-rank fusion branch, reducing complexity and avoiding ***, the fused features are flattened and sent to the classification branch to determine the emotion *** training, these features are input into the domain adaptive branch to bridge the gap between the source domain and target *** benchmark datasets, i.e., SEED, SEED-IV, and SEED-V, are employed for performance *** results demonstrate that the proposed LAFDA-Net is robust, effective, and has advantages over peer methods. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have demonstrated exceptional performance, leading to diverse applications across various mobile devices (MDs). Considering factors like portability and environmental sustainability, an increasing number of MDs are adopting energy harvesting (EH) techniques for power supply. However, the computational intensity of DNNs presents significant challenges for their deployment on these resource-constrained devices. Existing approaches often employ DNN partition or offloading to mitigate the time and energy consumption associated with running DNNs on MDs. Nonetheless, existing methods frequently fall short in accurately modeling the execution time of DNNs, and do not consider to use thread allocation for further latency and energy consumption optimization. To solve these problems, we propose a dynamic DNN partition and thread allocation method to optimize the latency and energy consumption of running DNNs on EH-enabled MDs. Specifically, we first investigate the relationship between DNN inference latency and allocated threads and establish an accurate DNN latency prediction model. Based on the prediction model, a DRL-based DNN partition (DDP) algorithm is designed to find the optimal partitions for DNNs. A thread allocation (TA) algorithm is proposed to reduce the inference latency. Experimental results from our test-bed platform demonstrate that compared to four benchmarking methods, our scheme can reduce DNN inference latency and energy consumption by up to 37.3% and 38.5%.

The k-means with outliers problem is one of the most extensively studied clustering problems in the field of machine learning, where the goal is to discard up to z outliers and identify a minimum k-means clustering on the remaining data points. Most previous results for this problem have running time dependent on the aspect ratio Δ(the ratio between the maximum and the minimum pairwise distances) to achieve fast approximations. To address the issue of aspect ratio dependency on the running time, we propose sampling-based algorithms with almost linear running time in the data size, where a crucial component of our approach is an algorithm called Fast-Sampling. Fast-Sampling algorithm can find inliers that well approximate the optimal clustering centers without relying on a guess for the optimal clustering costs, where a 4-approximate solution can be obtained in time $O(\frac{ndk\log\log n}{\epsilon^2})$ with O(k/ε) centers opened and (1 + ε)z outliers discarded. To reduce the number of centers opened, we propose a center reduction algorithm, where an O(1/ε)-approximate solution can be obtained in time $O(\frac{ndk\log \log n}{\epsilon^2} + dpoly(k, \frac{1}{\epsilon})\log(n\Delta))$ with (1 + ε)z outliers discarded and exactly k centers opened. Empirical experiments suggest that our proposed sampling-based algorithms outperform state-of-the-art algorithms for the k-means with outliers problem.

Surgical guide plate is an important tool for the dental implant surgery. However, the design process heavily relies on the dentist to manually simulate the implant angle and depth. When deep neural networks have been applied to assist the dentist quickly locates the implant position, most of them are not able to determine the implant depth. Inspired by the video grounding task which localizes the starting and ending time of the target video segment, in this paper, we simplify the implant depth prediction as video grounding and develop a Texture Perceive Implant Depth Prediction Network (TPNet), which enables us to directly output the implant depth without complex measurements of oral bone. TPNet consists of an implant region detector (IRD) and an implant depth prediction network (IDPNet). IRD is an object detector designed to crop the candidate implant volume from the CBCT, which greatly saves the computation resource. IDPNet takes the cropped CBCT data to predict the implant depth. A Texture Perceive Loss (TPL) is devised to enable the encoder of IDPNet to perceive the texture variation among slices. Extensive experiments on a large dental implant dataset demonstrated that the proposed TPNet achieves superior performance than the existing methods. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Moving Target Defense (MTD) is commonly used in changing the asymmetric situation between attack and defense in cyberspace. Route mutation is a vital branch of MTD. Current route mutation methods still have some limitations on unpredictability of mutating routing paths and time overhead. In this paper, we propose a Dynamic Random Route Mutation (DRRM) mechanism in order to maximize the unpredictability of mutation and reduce the time overhead. First, we adopt Jaccard distance matrix and temporal constraint to improve mutation space. Mutation space can be dynamically shifted to enhance the unpredictability. Then, we weaken attackers' capabilities of launching effective eavesdropping at a certain node by using route weight. Finally, we construct a pre-distribution strategy to reduce the transmission latency caused by route mutation. Simulation results show that DRRM not only raises the difficulty of network eavesdropping, but also ensures low mutation time overhead. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper analyzes the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Tito, a small municipality in Basilicata, Italy. Descriptive and inferential statistical models were used to study the course of the pandemic and predict its future development. The paper examines the possible consequences of proximity to a Site of National Interest on the spread of infection. The linear regression model was used to analyze the above phenomena. The paper also illustrates the multiple linear regression model and how it was constructed, considering the qualitative explanatory variables and ANOVA. The models were applied to data collected in the Municipality of Tito to test the trend of infection within the municipal area, with particular attention to the variables of gender, age, area of residence and vaccination status.

Spatio-Temporal Fuzzy-oriented Multi-Modal Meta-Learning for Fine-grained Emotion Recognition

Fine-grained emotion recognition (FER) plays a vital role in various fields, such as disease diagnosis, personalized recommendations, and multimedia mining. However, existing FER methods face three key challenges in real-world applications: (i) they rely on large amounts of continuously annotated data to ensure accuracy since emotions are complex and ambiguous in reality, which is costly and time-consuming;(ii) they cannot capture the temporal heterogeneity caused by changing emotion patterns, because they usually assume that the temporal correlation within sampling periods is the same;(iii) they do not consider the spatial heterogeneity of different FER scenarios, that is, the distribution of emotion information in different data may have bias or interference. To address these challenges, we propose a Spatio-Temporal Fuzzy-oriented Multi-modal Meta-learning framework (ST-F2M). Specifically, ST-F2M first divides the multimodal videos into multiple views, and each view corresponds to one modality of one emotion. Multiple randomly selected views for the same emotion form a meta-training task. Next, ST-F2M uses an integrated module with spatial and temporal convolutions to encode the data of each task, reflecting the spatial and temporal heterogeneity. Then it adds fuzzy semantic information to each task based on generalized fuzzy rules, which helps handle the complexity and ambiguity of emotions. Finally, ST-F2M learns emotion-related general meta-knowledge through meta-recurrent neural networks to achieve fast and robust fine-grained emotion recognition. Extensive experiments show that ST-F2M outperforms various state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy and model efficiency. In addition, we construct ablation studies and further analysis to explore why ST-F2M performs well. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
