Advancements in neuromorphic computing have given an impetus to the development of systems with adaptive behavior,dynamic responses,and energy efficiency *** charge-based or emerging memory technologies such as memristors have been developed to emulate synaptic plasticity,replicating the key functionality of neurons—integrating diverse presynaptic inputs to fire electrical impulses—has remained *** this study,we developed reconfigurable metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors(MOSCaps)based on hafnium diselenide(HfSe2).The proposed devices exhibit(1)optoelectronic synaptic features and perform separate stimulus-associated learning,indicating considerable adaptive neuron emulation,(2)dual light-enabled charge-trapping and memcapacitive behavior within the same MOSCap device,whose threshold voltage and capacitance vary based on the light intensity across the visible spectrum,(3)memcapacitor volatility tuning based on the biasing conditions,enabling the transition from volatile light sensing to non-volatile optical data *** reconfigurability and multifunctionality of MOSCap were used to integrate the device into a leaky integrate-and-fire neuron model within a spiking neural network to dynamically adjust firing patterns based on light stimuli and detect exoplanets through variations in light intensity.

Given the severity of waste pollution as a major environmental concern, intelligent and sustainable waste management is becoming increasingly crucial in both developed and developing countries. The material composition and volume of urban solid waste are key considerations in processing, managing, and utilizing city waste. Deep learning technologies have emerged as viable solutions to address waste management issues by reducing labor costs and automating complex tasks. However, the limited number of trash image categories and the inadequacy of existing datasets have constrained the proper evaluation of machine learning model performance across a large number of waste classes. In this paper, we present robust waste image classification and object detection studies using deep learning models, utilizing 28 distinct recyclable categories of waste images comprising a total of 10,406 images. For the waste classification task, we proposed a novel dual-stream network that outperformed several state-of-the-art models, achieving an overall classification accuracy of 83.11%. Additionally, we introduced the GELAN-E (generalized efficient layer aggregation network) model for waste object detection tasks, obtaining a mean average precision (mAP50) of 63%, surpassing other state-of-the-art detection models. These advancements demonstrate significant progress in the field of intelligent waste management, paving the way for more efficient and effective solutions. © The Author(s) 2024.

With constant hardware improvements allowing for increasingly large memory sizes, in-memory database servers have become an attractive option for various cloud applications. Even though in-memory database servers store all data in memory, there is still a need to persist data onto an I/O device for maintenance, updates, or protection against server crashes. In high throughput environments, persistence happens often, significantly hindering server throughput performance. Although popular in-memory database servers such as Redis or Dragonfly DB have adopted asynchronous I/O for socket operations, none have extended this approach for persistence. This results in significantly longer time taken for persistence, leading to prolonged reduced throughput. Given the recent introduction of io_uring, which has demonstrated significant performance improvements over past asynchronous I/O APIs, we have decided to implement it into Redis to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing these performance overheads. Our findings indicate that io_uring can significantly enhance performance in use cases with medium to large payload sizes but may hinder performances in use cases involving small payload sizes due to higher complexity and higher operation cost per datapoint. This method can likely be applied to other servers, such as Dragonfly DB and Memcached, to achieve similar benefits in appropriate scenarios. Additionally, in-memory database server persistence can serve as valuable benchmarks for further io_uring development and optimization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Research on the study of houses, condominiums and buildings in Taiwan’s metropolitan areas continues to be an important area of research. In real estate forecasting and analysis, methods such as statistical analysis and questionnaire data collection are widely used. However, when multidimensional data is considered, these methods are time-consuming and inadequate. This study aimed to build a real estate forecasting model that can adapt to a changing environment. Data were collected from public government databases, the collected data were standardized for accurate clustering, an appropriate data clustering algorithm was applied to the standardized data, and cross-statistical analysis was performed to verify the adopted algorithm. We used a deep learning based on autoencoder algorithm to increase the accuracy of the clustering analysis. A double-bottom map particle swarm optimization (DBM-PSO) clustering algorithm was then used to determine the optimal clustering solution. Cluster analysis and deep learning were conducted on data collected from public websites to understand the factors that led to the sustained increase in housing prices in Taiwan over the past decade. The results of this study indicate that three key factors—the number of real estate transactions, the average unit price of real estate transactions, and the building material and construction index—significantly affected real estate prices in Taiwan. Our results could help researchers and governments to focus on specific aspects of real estate development without being influenced by other related factors. In addition, the relationships between real estate trends and the aforementioned three key factors were determined to obtain valuable information that can enable the Taiwanese government to regulate the property market and prevent excessive growth. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology supporting bidirectional power transfer allows electric vehicles (EVs) to contribute and consume energy bidirectionally. Because the specific properties and requirements of V2G, Khan et al. proposed a key agreement scheme for the V2G system to ensure the security of communication between a vehicle user and the grid server. In this study, we aim to enhance the efficiency of p-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (p-TOPCon) solar cells by improving charge carrier extraction while achieving higher fill factor (FF) and open circuit voltage (Voc). We explore various potential methods for the photovoltaic industrial procedure, including optimizing metallization patterns and techniques, such as the utilization of a high efficiency grid pattern (HEGP) in place of the conventional straight finger-line pattern (SFLP). Co-firing conditions, peak firing temperature, and belt speed are investigated for their impact on FF enhancement, along with evaluating the effects of single and double print processes. Furthermore, we examine the efficacy of Nafion treatment as a surface modification technique to enhance FF. Experimental results indicate that optimizing co-firing conditions and employing Nafion treatment significantly increased FF to approximately 83.26% in p-TOPCon solar cells. Adjusting peak firing temperature and belt speed, as well as implementing the double print process, demonstrate superior FF enhancement compared to the single print process. Additionally, Nafion treatment contributes to FF improvement by passivating surface defects and enhancing charge carrier collection. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into optimizing co-firing conditions and surface treatment techniques to enhance p-TOPCon solar cell efficiency (Eff) up to 23.50%, thus advancing high-efficiency photovoltaic technology. © 2024 The Korean Society of Industrial and engineering Chemistry

Offsets Reconstruction Method for Clock Skew Measurement Over High-Jitter Communication

Measuring clock skew of devices over a network fully relies on the offsets, the differences between sending and receiving times. Offsets that shape a thick line are the most ideal one as their slope is directly the clock skew sought. When some outliers separate from the thick line due to higher delay jitter, current advanced approaches use the lower bound or the majority of offsets to derive accurate clock skew. However, outliers in offsets that shape parallel dotted lines, reduce the availability of offsets in the lower region, and scatter widely the offsets from their majority zone. These conditions drive the current skew estimation approaches to lose their accuracy. This paper then developed a new method, which reconstructs back the outliers into their origin positions, in order to provide ideal offsets for clock skew measurement. The experimental evaluations have demonstrated that the clock skew accuracy of dotted-lines offsets tampered by outliers was improved from 2.1 to 0.9 ppm by the proposed reconstruction method. For a broader purpose, the reconstruction method has been adjusted to be implemented also on non-dotted-lines offsets. The robustness of the proposed method for this case has also been exhibited by the very ideal reconstructed offsets that shape like a thick line. © The Author(s) 2025.

This research examines the effectiveness of nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatment in mitigating Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation (LeTID) in Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact (PERC) solar cells, employing a 30-kW photovoltaic (PV) system for evaluation. As a photosensitive device, solar cells are susceptible to damage from laser irradiation, leading to reduced photoelectric conversion efficiency, structural damage, and functional loss. To minimize this loss, nitrogen annealing and Nafion treatments were applied, followed by the analysis of LeTID effects on untreated, Nafion-treated, and combined nitrogen-annealed and Nafion-treated PERC cells. Untreated cells showed an 8 % fall in open-circuit voltage (Voc) and a 7 % fill factor (FF) loss. The combined treatment (Combination of Nitrogen & Nafion Treatment) improved stability, reducing losses to 6 % in Voc and 5 % in FF. The Nafion treatment yielded the best results, limiting deterioration to 4 % in Voc and 3 % in FF. PVsyst simulations, incorporating real-world data, confirmed enhanced stability and efficiency, aiding in optimizing PV system design and maintenance. © 2025 Korean Physical Society

Downlink transmission of a nonorthogonal visible light communication (VLC) system, empowered by autonomous aerial vehicles (AAVs), is studied for coexisting enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultrareliable low-latency communication (URLLC), and massive machine-type communication (mMTC) services. A joint resource allocation problem involving user association, transmit power, and flight trajectory of AAVs is formulated, with the goal of characterizing a multiobjective tradeoff as a weighted sum of the power consumption of each AAV and the perceived Quality of Experience (QoE) of its associated eMBB users, while ensuring the service-specific requirements for eMBB, mMTC, and URLLC are met. Assuming the imperfection of channel state information (CSI), we invoke a generalized Benders decomposition (GBD) methodology, leveraging tools from convex optimization and multiagent deep reinforcement learning to address this problem. We further analytically derive the upper and lower bounds on the reward function for each AAV as a learning agent. Extensive simulations confirm that our proposed method outperforms the single-agent counterpart in the literature, with up to a 22% reduction in power consumption and a 13% gain in perceived QoE. Additionally, compared to the globally optimal brute-force method for AAV-user association, our proposed method experiences only a trivial performance loss in a small-scale scenario. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper considers a cloud streaming game using WebRTC. Since the cloud streaming game consists of a server and a client, the network quality between them affects the game. Among the network quality degradation factors, we focus on delay jitter. We reduce the effect of the jitter by buffering. We conduct a subjective experiment of a single-player action game and evaluate application-level QoS and QoE. We investigate the impact of buffering on the video and audio quality of the user playing the game.
