Extended target tracking arises in situations where the resolution of the sensor is high enough to allow multiple returns from the target of interest corresponding to its different parts. Various formulations and solutions may be found in the literature. We concentrate on the data association aspect involved in the tracking problem and propose utilization of a general framework that allows reformulation of many seemingly unrelated problems in a similar way. Consequently, the extended object tracking problem is stated as a single generalized dynamical system with random coefficients and solved using a standard IMM algorithm.

Spindle-shaped nematic droplets (tactoids) form in solutions of rod-like molecules at the onset of the liquid crystalline phase. Their unique shape and internal structure result from the interplay of the elastic deformation of the nematic and anisotropic surface forces. The balance of these forces dictates that tactoids must display a continuous variation in aspect ratio and director-field configuration. Yet, such continuous transition has eluded observation for decades: tactoids have displayed either a bipolar configuration with particles aligned parallel to the droplet interface or a homogeneous configuration with particles aligned parallel to the long axis of the tactoid. Here, we report the first observation of the continuous transition in shape and director-field configuration of tactoids in true solutions of carbon nanotubes in chlorosulfonic acid. This observation is possible because the exceptional length of carbon nanotubes shifts the transition to a size range that can be visualized by optical microscopy. Polarization micrographs yield the interfacial and elastic properties of the system. Absorbance anisotropy measurements provide the highest nematic order parameter (S=0.79) measured to date for a nematic phase of carbon nanotubes at coexistence with its isotropic phase.

In this paper, we present the encoding produces technique for texture recognition. This produces are developed with the purpose to replaced the previous method. Firstly, we encode image informations by VTT (Volume Trace Transform), and trace functionals are chosen by RL (Reinforce Learning). The number of VTT results are extracted by the amount of trace functionals. Secondly, we present P-DFT (Plus-Discriminant Feature Transform) and S-DFT (Square-Discriminant Feature Transform) accumulate result's VTT and constructs 2-D histogram. Finally, The histogram is compared by chi-square test and in conclusion will present the accuracy of recognition rate of both methods based on brodatz texture database.

We define Passive Haptic Rehabilitation (PHR) as an improvement in haptic sensations or abilities using methods which require little or no attention on the part of the user. We present a study that suggests improvement in hand sensation in participants with partial Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in C4-T1 after use of our Mobile Music Touch (MMT) glove. The MMT glove is designed to teach piano melodies passively. It stimulates the participant's fingers repeatedly in the order of notes in the songs to be learned. In a study of ten hands, seven people with incomplete SCI participate in simple piano lessons three times a week for thirty minutes a session for eight weeks. The experimental group also attends these lessons but also wear our Mobile Music Touch (MMT) glove for two hours a day, five times a week to reinforce these lessons passively. Participants were injured over a year before the beginning of the study. The Semmes-Weinstein test is used to measure sensation at eight points on the hand before and after the piano lessons. The mean improvements between the experimental group and control group show a difference that is statistically significant. All hand areas in the experimental group show an improvement in average Semmes-Weinstein scores.

The vibration in induction motors is due to mechanical and electrical forces existing during the motor operation. The vibration monitoring can help to prevent wear in motors, to increase its efficiency and lowering maintenance costs. Through knowledge and accurate diagnostic procedures, it is possible to detect the cause of the vibration. This paper presents the vibration measurement analysis in the induction motor running at no-load condition using a biaxial optical fiber accelerometer. The sensor is positioned on the induction motor, and the acquired data compared with the one from a capacitive sensor. Changing the power supply frequency from 10 to 60 Hz a higher SNR was observed for both directions on the optical sensor data. The characteristics of the optical sensor, immunity to electro-magnetic interference and high sensitivity, 87.848 pm.g~(-1) and 92.351 pm.g~(-1) for two directions and independent directions, favors its use for monitoring vibrations in electrical machines. The results indicate a relation between deterioration and mechanical vibration and, thus, providing the motivation for additional study and a basis for future applications.

This paper presents the method of image texture recognition by Volume Trace Transform-VTT, based on several Trace function. All of 10 trace functions will be selected by the reinforcement learning process and constructed to produce noticeable features. The next process is to sum the results of each function together by “NDFT - Neighbor Discriminant Feature Transform”, this process will all the results from the different positions of image results and construct 2-D histogram. The histogram is evaluated by chi-square statistic test and the process works on the basis of brodatz texture and vision texture database.
