In this paper, we will investigate a more challenging vehicle matching problem. The problem is formulated as invariant image feature matching among opposite viewpoints of cameras, i.e. complementary object matching. For example, a front vehicle object may be given as a query to retrieve a rear vehicle object of the same vehicle. To solve the complementary object matching, invariant image feature is first extracted based on ASIFT (affine and scale-invariant feature transform) for each detected vehicle in a camera network. Then, the ASIFT feature is expanded via a special vehicle database. As a result, cross-camera vehicle matching with the help of complementary part can be greatly improved. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and the feasibility to video forensics applications.

The recent deployment of very large-scale camera networks consisting of fixed/moving surveillance cameras and vehicle video recorders, has led to a novel field in object tracking problem. The major goal is to detect and track each vehicle within a large area, which can be applied to video forensics. For example, a suspected vehicle can be automatically identified for mining digital criminal evidences from a large amount of video data. In this paper, we propose an efficient cross-camera vehicle tracking technique via affine invariant object matching. More specifically, we formulate the problem as invariant image feature matching among different viewpoints of cameras. To achieve vehicle matching, we first extract invariant image feature based on ASIFT (affine and scale-invariant feature transform) for each detected vehicle in a camera network. Then, to improve the accuracy of ASIFT feature matching between images from different viewpoints, we propose to efficiently match feature points based on our observed spatially invariant property of ASIFT, as well as the min-hash technique. As a result, cross-camera vehicle tracking can be efficiently and accurately achieved. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm and the feasibility to video forensics applications.

Impact response of contact lenses is measured using the Levitation Mass Method (LMM). In the LMM, a small mass collides with contact lenses and the impact force is measured with high accuracy as the inertial force of the moving part. A pneumatic linear bearing is used to achieve linear motion with sufficiently small friction acting on the moving part. Hysteresis loop and consumed energy as mechanical characteristics of contact lenses are also calculated.. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper presents the design and fabrication of a highly-miniaturized system for continuous glucose monitoring which holds great promise for patients inflicted with diabetes mellitus. To achieve the realization of a truly implantable system, a variety of issues such as robust electrochemical sensor design, miniaturization of the electronic components and counteracting biofouling and negative tissue response need to be addressed. In this report, we present a highly-miniaturized transcutaneous continuous glucose monitoring system which holistically addresses the aforementioned tribulations associated with implantable devices. Specifically, a high performance amperometric electrochemical glucose sensor is integrated with custom designed complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor electronics. The fabricated electrochemical sensor is Clark-based, and employs stratification of five functional layers to achieve a linear response within the physiological range of glucose concentration (2-22 mM). Furthermore, the sensor is encased with a thick polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel containing poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres which provides continuous, localized delivery of dexamethasone utilized to combat inflammation and fibrosis. Such miniature size (0.665 mm2) and low power operation (140 μW) of the electronic system render it ideal for continuous glucose monitoring devices and other metabolic sensing systems. © 2013 IEEE.

For an automatic chromosome classification, band resolution information is required in order to perform diagnosis on numerical and structural abnormalities. Metaphases with low band resolution are normal used for numerical abnormality analysis while metaphases with high band resolution are used for structural abnormality analysis. In our work, we classify metaphases into low and high band resolution groups using chromosome shape. This band classification task can automatically perform without human intervention leading to faster the diagnosis process. The results showed that chromosome shape information is able to classify metaphases into low and high band resolution groups with the accuracy of 73.08% and 95.24%, respectively.

This paper presents the design and implementation of highly-miniaturized, low-power CMOS signal conditioning schemes intended for use in a totally implantable biomedical sensor platform. Due to the thrust for the development implantable biomedical sensing systems for health management and disease prevention, there exists a need for signal processing schemes which occupy very little on-chip real estate and consume negligible amounts of power. In light of this, this paper presents both a CMOS current-to-frequency converter and voltage-to-frequency converter which have been designed primarily for use in implantable biosensing platforms and applications. Such designs can be implemented in stand-alone single sensor designs, or in tandem to create multi-analyte architectures. The versatility of employing current-to-frequency as well as voltage-to-frequency signal transduction schemes presents an avenue for the integration with any electrochemical sensing element which has been fabricated in an amperometric or voltammetric fashion. Furthermore, we demonstrate the efficacy of both these circuit designs by integrating them together with high performance electrochemical implantable glucose and pH sensors. The low power consumption and miniature size of the amperometric and voltammetric signal processing units (0.25 mm 2 and 18 μW / 0.045 mm 2 and 122 μW, respectively) presents an ideal design for signal processing in implantable continuous metabolic monitoring devices.

This paper presents a shunt active power filter based on the concept of open-end winding (OEW) transformers. The proposed configuration is constituted of two converters with three legs each series connected throughout a three-phase OEW transformer. Model PWM strategy and control scheme are presented as well. The main advantage of the proposed system lies on the multi-level waveform generation, which allows reduction of either harmonic distortions or switching losses. This proposed topology is suitable for medium voltage (MV) distribution systems. Simulation and experimental results validate the theoretical study.

Ochratoxin-A[7-(L-β-phenylalanylcarbonyl)-carboxyl-5-chloro-8-hydroxy-3,4-dihydro-3R-methyl-isocumarin, OTA] is a common food contaminant mycotoxin that enters the human body through the consumption of improperly stored food products. Upon ingestion, it leads to immuno-suppression and immuno-toxicity. OTA has been known to produce nephrotoxic, teratogenic, and carcinogenic activity (via oxidative DNA damage) in several species. This review introduces potentials of electrochemical biosensor to provide breakthroughs in OTA detection through improved selectivity and sensitivity and also the current approaches for detecting OTA in food products.
