Organic Transistor (OT) modeling, fabrication and applicability has undergone remarkable progress during last ten years. Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFTs) have received significant attention recently because of their considerable utility. They can be fabricated at lower temperature and significantly reduced cost as compared to Hydrogenated Amorphous Silicon Thin Film Transistors (a-Si: H TFTs). Fabrication of OTFTs at low temperature allows utilization of wide range of substrates, thereby permitting usage of organic transistors as future candidate for many low-cost electronics applications that require flexible polymeric substrates such as RFID tags, smart cards, electronic paper, and active matrix flat panel displays. This paper provides detailed insight of OTFTs, their operating principles, device materials and various structures such as Top Gate Top Contact (TGTC), Top Gate Bottom Contact (TGBC), Bottom Gate Top Contact (BGTC) and Bottom Gate Bottom Contact (BGBC). Although OTFTs find tremendous and widespread applications, but is marred by few limitations related to factors such as speed, compatibility, stability, degradability and variability. This paper comprehensively discusses the performance and limitations of OTFTs. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.

This paper presents a smart antenna system using a combination of nonconventional least square (NCLS) optimization and direct data domain least square (D3LS) for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation and beamforming, respectively. In the proposed system, NCLS optimization is utilized to estimate DOA of incoming signal first. The estimated DOA is then assisted for initial processing of D3LS in beamforming. The performance in term of estimated signal amplitude and estimated DOA of the proposed system is evaluated via simulations. © 2012 IEEE.

A smart antenna was proposed to improve wireless communication systems. The smart antenna may comprises direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation and/or adaptive antenna. The DOA estimation technique is used to estimate direction of transmitted signals. An adaptive antenna has ability of suppressing undesired signals namely interference or jammers in specific directions while receive only the desired one. There are a number of methods proposed to conduct in such way, including multiple signal classification (MUSIC), least mean squares (LMS), sample matrix inversion (SMI), recursive least squares (RLS), and their derivative forms as seen in the literatures in [1]. These methods require a training sequence or known information for adaptation and/or DOA estimation. Although a constant modulus algorithm (CMA) was proposed without the need of training sequence, it has a slow convergence. © 2012 IEICE.

Although of the importance of analyzing vowel phonemes in the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), it has not been paid a considerable attention in the published literature yet. Consequently, a formant-based analysis for the six vowels of MSA in connected speech was carried out in this work. The values of the first three formant frequencies were captured. The present results were compared to some previously published results conducted on MSA and other Arabic dialects. The comparison was performed from geometric perspective using the Euclidean distance. The results of the geometric comparison were found to be consistent with the visual inspection of the vowel triangles. © 2012 IEEE.

As IT advances, warfare undergoing a paradigm shifts. It is going from a type that is weapon-based-making heavy use of conventional weapons-to one that is network-based, a type of warfare called network-centric warfare (NCW). In NCW, sharing of information can be guaranteed using communication technologies of the network. As the members that take part in missions can exchange and collaborate with other, they can be completed more successfully and efficiently, increasing the military might. Amid advancements being made in IT, the Korea military is also doing research for conducting more effective warfare, which it aims to do by connecting each of the entities together and sharing battlefield resources. This paper examines threats to information security in NCW, as well as requirements for information security. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were coated first with methylene blue (MB) by noncovalent adsorption and then by horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and glucose oxidase (GOD) by covalent-linking. The MB-MWNTs/GOD/HRP composites formed stable films on screen-printed electrodes (SPE). The electrochemical and electrocatalytic behaviors of the bienzyme modified SPE were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and amperometry. Using the MB-MWNT/GOD/HRP composites, glucose could be calibrated by amperometry at -0.35 V vs. SCE. The optimized response (at pH 7.0) had a sensitivity of 2.4 mA.M-1 and a limit of detection (3xS/N) of 35 mu M. Tests of the portable bienzyme sensor demonstrate its imperviousness to the effects of ascorbic acid, uric acid and p-acetaminophen, as well as its ability to measure glucose concentrations ranging from 0.25 to 2 mM.

Thin film gallium nitride (GaN) scintillators have been produced by MOCVD and made neutron-sensitive by applying an enriched lithium-6 fluoride ( 6LiF) conversion layer. The 6Li(n,α) reaction produces both alpha and triton particles, which have very penetration depths in GaN. The range and energy deposition characteristics of these particles in GaN have been simulated. Alpha-induced scintillation was measured in silicon-doped GaN using an americium-241 (241Am) source. The thermal neutron responses of the 6LiF-coated GaN scintillator were tested using two thermal neutron sources, an 241Am-Be source inside a graphite pile and a reactor source. The scintillator was found to have a linear response to thermal neutron flux level over a range of more than three orders of magnitude. © 2012 Materials Research Society.
