A Comparative Study of DeepLabCut and Other Open-Source Pupillometry Data Analysis Algorithms – Which to Choose?

Pupillometry measures pupil size, and several open-source algorithms are available to analyse pupillometry data. However, only a few studies compared these algorithms’ accuracy and computational resources. This study aims to compare the accuracy of computer vision-based algorithms (Swirski, Starburst, PuRe, ElSe, ExCuSe algorithms) and the machine learning algorithm, DeepLabCut, to the double-blinded human examiners (gold-standard). Training of DeepLabCut with different architectures and a variable number of markers (2-9 markers) was done on an open-source dataset. The duration of training was statistically longer for the ResNet152 model compared to the MobileNet model. The pupil diameters in computer vision-based software such as PuRe, Starburst, and Swirski were statistically different from human measurements. MobileNet 2 and 3 marker models were the closest to the human measurements. In conclusion, this work highlights the efficiency of lower marker models based on MobileNet architecture in DeepLabCut, which consumes fewer computational resources and is more accurate. © 2024 Institute of Information technology, Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW. Photovoltaic (PV) system fault diagnosis is crucial because it helps PV system operators reduce energy and income losses. It also decreases the risk of fire and electric shock from PV system failures. Thus, the implementation of fault diagnosis tool is required. The most well-known techniques are machine learning models. Although these techniques provided well in terms of diagnosis and classification accuracy, they rely on manual feature extraction, which is time consuming, expensive, and requires diagnostic skill. Manual feature extraction is a problem that has to be addressed. This paper therefore presents a PV system fault diagnosis techniques that can automatically extract features from raw data in order to classify PV system faults. The implemented methods include long short-term memory (LSTM) bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks, which are deep learning based algorithms. Finally, the presented fault diagnosis approaches showed a good diagnosis performances when applied to an emulated GCPV system. © 2022 IEEE.

Organic weed control is a vital to improve crop yield with a sustainable approach. In this work, a directed energy weed control robot prototype specifically designed for organic farms is proposed. The robot uses a novel distributed array robot (DAR) unit for weed treatment. Soybean and corn databases are built to train deep learning neural nets to perform weed recognition. The initial deep learning neural nets show a high performance in classifying crops. The robot uses a patented directed energy plant eradication recipe that is completely organic and UV-C free, with no chemical damage or physical disturbance to the soil. The deep learning can classify 8 common weed species in a soybean field under natural environment with up to 98% accuracy. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Home security is a crucial aspect that requires careful attention, particularly when it comes to addressing theft concerns. Hence, implementing smart door technology equipped with facial recognition holds promising potential for enhancing home security. This study aims to develop a more secure and regulated home entry system by leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology and Machine Learning computer Vision for facial recognition. The system integrates IoT devices, such as cameras and automatic doors, wherein facial image data is captured by the camera and processed using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm to identify individuals. Once an individual is recognized, the system grants access to the home through an automated door. By relying on facial features, the system effectively restricts unauthorized access and safeguards homes against theft risks. Therefore, the advancement of a safer and more controlled home entry system utilizing IoT technology and Machine Learning computer Vision holds tremendous benefits for homeowners.

Media influence's public opinion and decision-making today. Advertisements especially affect audience perceptions, actions, and purchases. A comprehensive data library on commercials and their performance is needed to understand how media affects society. Ad content, placement, and performance are stored in a data warehouse-based ad archive. The archive can evaluate marketing campaigns and discover media trends. Ad servers, social media platforms, and media monitoring tools may build the data warehouse-based ad archive. A dimensional data model helps retrieve and analyze data. Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cubes, and data visualization tools may access the archive. Media academics, marketers, and politicians may study the media environment using the data warehouse-based ad archive. Media academics may utilize the collection to study the marketing campaigns, media trends and media's influence on society. The archive may help advertisers analyze their ad campaigns, optimize media placement, and understand their target demographic. Policymakers may use the archive to monitor media outlets' advertising compliance and assess policy changes' media landscape effects.

Indonesia has enormous geothermal potential, but it only contributes 5% to Indonesia's energy matrix. During 37 years of operation, PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area has been operating to produce electricity and is currently capable of supplying and distributing electricity to the Java-Bali area with a capacity of 60 MWe. However, this can run into a decrease in the efficiency and effectiveness of system performance due to energy losses in several geothermal power plant components during energy conversion. In this case, exergy analysis at PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy Kamojang area Unit 4 direct-dry steam cycle was done on each component and state. This aims to know the energy and exergy stream and where it happened irreversibly at the component. The biggest irreversibility value occurred at the turbine and main condenser, with a value of 21,693.890 kW and 21,688.148 kW. The total irreversibility of all systems is 58,326.201 kW, while the total exergy inlet systems is 119,308.457 kW, so the value efficiency exergy obtained is 51.13%. Based on the environment as dead state analysis, an efficiency exergy value is inversely proportional to the irreversibility value and ascending environment temperature. System optimization was done with the genetic algorithm method, with variable values at the pressure wellhead and inlet turbine for the overall exergy efficiency value. The value obtained from optimization is 11.98 bar at the wellhead and 10.023 bar at the inlet turbine, and the overall efficiency exergy increased by 51.22%. © 2023 The Author(s)

Full-marathon and Half-marathon distances are categorized as road running. Full-marathon running is becoming increasingly popular, and Half-marathon is increasing worldwide in both sexes and all age groups. Some aspects might relate to Full-marathon and Half-marathon running performance during training and races. technology also plays an essential role in supporting runners and running races. technology like artificial intelligence (AI) now supports the running athlete, not only predicting performance and results. It can also be used later to help the coach generate training programs for the athlete. This research aimed to find many aspects of marathons and performance and analyze them to see if artificial intelligence could later support them. It used secondary data and a systematic literature review proposed by Kitchenham. Out of the 58 articles, 21 of them (36.21%) received a score of 1 from Q1. Additionally, 19 articles (32.76%) received a score of 1 from both Q2 and Q3. Among the 58 articles, 9 (15.52%) received a total score of 3, with all three Q1, Q2, and Q3 scores being 1. This indicates that artificial intelligence will likely support the content of these nine articles. Several factors were also discovered to be connected to marathons and athletic performance. These findings suggested that additional investigation into marathons and performance, later backed by artificial intelligence, remained pertinent and essential.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening condition that demands immediate intervention. The key to survival often lies in the timely and precise analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals to determine the necessity of a shock from an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). In this paper, we address the critical need for improved accuracy in AED decision-making by presenting a novel approach that leverages the Hilbert Transform to calculate the slope of ECG signals by harnessing the analytical power of Hilbert Transformed ECG signals. By scrutinizing the heart's electrical activity through this method, we aim to enhance the AED's ability to differentiate between cases of ventricular fibrillation and other non-shockable rhythms, ultimately leading to more efficient and effective treatment. Our research explores two distinct approaches for signal analysis and correlates their findings to achieve higher precision in defibrillation decisions. To validate the effectiveness of our approach, we employ a diverse and publicly available dataset containing various heart conditions, allowing us to demonstrate the robustness of our method across a wide spectrum of cases. This study represents a significant advancement in the field of automatic external defibrillation, with the potential to save countless lives through more accurate and timely interventions.

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are integral components of e-healthcare systems, responsible for monitoring patients' physiological states through intelligent implantable or wearable sensor nodes. These nodes collect medical data, which is then transmitted to remote healthcare facilities for thorough evaluation. Securing medical data within WBANs is paramount due to its central role in preserving patient privacy and confidentiality. Notably, Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have recently gained prominence as pivotal elements within diverse security frameworks. Incorporating ECG signals strategically enhances the security and reliability of WBANs and broader e-healthcare systems, instilling greater trustworthiness. This survey article provides an in-depth exploration of contemporary ECG-based security schemes, adding to the scholarly discourse. The imperative to categorize these security paradigms revolves around their use of ECG signals. This categorization identifies three key domains: the first involves schemes that utilize ECG signals for cryptographic operations, encompassing key generation, agreement, management, and authentication. The second category employs steganography-based techniques, using ECG signals to conceal patients' sensitive medical data. The third category focuses on enhancing ECG signal security during data transmission. Each category is meticulously elaborated, detailing architectural foundations, notable contributions, and intrinsic security services. Furthermore, each section presents a comprehensive overview of the attributes characterizing ECG-based security frameworks. This includes insights into employed datasets, simulation environments, evaluation metrics, and inherent advantages and limitations. Expanding on this, a thorough analysis of distinctive attributes underpinning these security frameworks concludes by shedding light on potential directions for future research. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.

The Republic of the Philippines is confronted with rebuilding its energy landscape, which now depends heavily on imported fossil fuels for a substantial supply. The department of Energy (DOE) has established lofty objectives to enhance the nation's renewable energy (RE) capability; nevertheless, these objectives are still to be achieved. This research supports DOE's goals by studying other possible renewable energy sources. In particular, the primary aim of this research is to examine the viability of Offshore Wind Converters (OWCs) and Wave Energy Converters (WECs) as viable sustainable energy options for the Philippines. Ocean wave converters (OWCs) provide inherent benefits in terms of dependability and have widespread societal acceptance. Conversely, wave energy converters (WECs) harness the vast energy potential contained within ocean waves. A comparative evaluation was undertaken to analyze the differences between these two potential renewable energy sources. The assessment concludes that OWCs possess a minor advantage over WECs regarding their economic viability and higher societal acceptability. It recommended that the government adopts a diversified energy portfolio, which may include the incorporation of WECs to effectively navigate the changing dynamics of the energy sector, enhance sustainability, and ensure the long-term security of the nation's energy supply.
