We report measurements of the lifetimes of the Λ+c , Ξc+ and Ξc0 charm baryons using proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1, collected by the LHCb experiment. The charm baryons are reconstructed through the decays Λ+c → pK−π+, Ξc+ → pK−π+ and Ξc0 → pK−K−π+, and originate from semimuonic decays of beauty baryons. The lifetimes are measured relative to that of the D+ meson, and are determined to be τΛ+c = 203.5 ± 1.0 ± 1.3 ± 1.4 fs, τΞc+ = 456.8 ± 3.5 ± 2.9 ± 3.1 fs, τΞ0 = 154.5 ± 1.7 ± 1.6 ± 1.0 fs, c where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the D+ lifetime. The measurements are approximately 3–4 times more precise than the current world average values. The Λ+c and Ξc+ lifetimes are in agreement with previous measurements;however, the Ξc0 baryon lifetime is approximately 3.3 standard deviations larger than the world average value. Using proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to 1.0, 2.0 and 1.9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity at the centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, respectively, the decay Λ0b → χc1(3872)pK− with χc1(3872) → J/ψ π+π− is observed for the first time. The significance of the observed signal is in excess of seven standard deviations. It is found that (58 ±15)% of the decays proceed via the two-body intermediate state χc1(3872)Λ(1520). The branching fraction with respect to that of the Λ0b → ψ(2S)pK− decay mode, where the ψ(2S) meson is reconstructed in the J/ψ π+π− final state, is measured to be: (formula presented) where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1, collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, a new narrow charmonium state, the X(3842) resonance, is observed in the decay modes X(3842) → D0D0 and X(3842) → D+D−. The mass and the natural width of this state are measured to be = 3842.71 ± 0.16 ± 0.12 MeV/c2 , mX(3842) = 2.79 ± 0.51 ± 0.35 MeV , ΓX(3842) where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The observed mass and narrow natural width suggest the interpretation of the new state as the unobserved spin-3 ψ3(13D3) charmonium state. In addition, prompt hadroproduction of the ψ(3770) and χc2(3930) states is observed for the first time, and the parameters of these states are measured to be = 3778.1 ± 0.7 ± 0.6 MeV/c2 , mψ(3770) = 3921.9 ± 0.6 ± 0.2 MeV/c2 , mχc2(3930) = 36.6 ± 1.9 ± 0.9 MeV , Γχc2(3930) where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We report the observation of a new structure in the Λ0bπ+π− spectrum using the full LHCb data set of pp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1, collected at √s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV. A study of the structure suggests its interpretation as a superposition of two almost degenerate narrow states. The masses and widths of these states are measured to be mΛb(6146)0 = 6146.17 ± 0.33 ± 0.22 ± 0.16 MeV , mΛb(6152)0 = 6152.51 ± 0.26 ± 0.22 ± 0.16 MeV , ΓΛb(6146)0 = 2.9 ± 1.3 ± 0.3 MeV , ΓΛb(6152)0 = 2.1 ± 0.8 ± 0.3 MeV , with a mass splitting of ∆m = 6.34 ± 0.32 ± 0.02 MeV, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third derives from the knowledge of the mass of the Λ0b baryon. The measured masses and widths of these new excited states suggest their possible interpretation as a doublet of Λb(1D)0 states. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in Bs0 → φφ decays is presented. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies √s = 7 TeV in 2011, 8 TeV in 2012 and 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016, a signal yield of around 9000 Bs0 → φφ decays is obtained. The CP-violating phase φssss ¯ is measured to be −0.073 ± 0.115 (stat) ± 0.027 (syst) rad, under the assumption it is independent on the helicity of the φφ decay. In addition, the CP-violating phases of the transverse polarisations under the assumption of CP conservation of the longitudinal phase are measured. The helicity-independent direct CP-violation parameter is also measured, and is found to be |λ| = 0.99 ± 0.05 (stat) ± 0.01 (syst). In addition, T-odd triple-product asymmetries are measured. The results obtained are consistent with the hypothesis of CP conservation in b → sss transitions. Finally, a limit on the branching fraction of the B0 → φφ decay is determined to be B(B0 → φφ) −8 at 90 % confidence level. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A time-dependent analysis of the Bs0 → φγ decay rate is performed to determine the CP-violating observables Sφγ and Cφγ, and the mixing-induced observable A∆φγ. The measurement is based on a sample of pp collision data recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1 at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The measured values are Sφγ = 0.43 ± 0.30 ± 0.11, Cφγ = 0.11 ± 0.29 ± 0.11, A∆φγ = −0.67 +0−0..3741 ± 0.17, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. A search for charge-parity (CP) violation in D0 → K−K+ and D0 → π−π+ decays is reported, using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.9 fb−1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The flavor of the charm meson is inferred from the charge of the pion in D∗(2010)+ → D0π+ decays or from the charge of the muon in B→ D0µ−ν¯µX decays. The difference between the CP asymmetries in D0 → K−K+ and D0 → π−π+ decays is measured to be ∆ACP = [−18.2 ± 3.2 (stat.) ± 0.9 (syst.)] × 10−4 for π-tagged and ∆ACP = [−9 ± 8 (stat.) ± 5 (syst.)] × 10−4 for µ-tagged D0 mesons. Combining these with previous LHCb results leads to∆ACP = (−15.4 ± 2.9) × 10−4,where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. The measured value differs from zero by more than five standard deviations. This is the first observation of CP violation in the decay of charm hadrons. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. The B0 → K∗0K∗0 and Bs0 → K∗0K∗0 decays are studied using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1. An untagged and time-integrated amplitude analysis of B(0s) → (K+π−)(K−π+) decays in two-body invariant mass regions of 150 MeV/c2 around the K∗0 mass is performed. A stronger longitudinal polarisation fraction in the B0 → K∗0K∗0 decay, fL = 0.724 ± 0.051 (stat) ± 0.016 (syst), is observed as compared to fL = 0.240 ± 0.031 (stat) ± 0.025 (syst) in the Bs0 → K∗0K∗0 decay. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured and used to determine B(B0 → K∗0K∗0) = (8.0 ± 0.9 (stat) ± 0.4 (syst)) × 10−7. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

An angular analysis of B0 → J/ψK+π− decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1 collected with the LHCb detector. The m(K+π−) spectrum is divided into fine bins. In each m(K+π−) bin, the hypothesis that the three-dimensional angular distribution can be described by structures induced only by K∗ resonances is examined, making minimal assumptions about the K+π− system. The data reject the K∗-only hypothesis with a large significance, implying the observation of exotic contributions in a model-independent fashion. Inspection of the m(J/ψπ−) versus m(K+π−) plane suggests structures near m(J/ψπ−) = 4200 MeV and 4600 MeV. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The first observation of the decays B(0s) → J/ψpp is reported, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb−1, collected with the LHCb detector. These decays are suppressed due to limited available phase space, as well as due to Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka or Cabibbo suppression. The measured branching fractions are B(B0 → J/ψpp) = (4.51 ± 0.40 (stat) ± 0.44 (syst)) × 10−7, B(Bs0 → J/ψpp) = (3.58 ± 0.19 (stat) ± 0.39 (syst)) × 10−6. For the Bs0 meson, the result is much higher than the expected value of O(10−9). The small available phase space in these decays also allows for the most precise single measurement of both the B0 mass as 5279.74 ± 0.30 (stat) ± 0.10 (syst) MeV, and the Bs0 mass as 5366.85 ± 0.19 (stat) ± 0.13 (syst) MeV.
