Information retrieval in folksonomies: Search and ranking

Social bookmark tools are rapidly emerging on the Web. In such systems users are setting up lightweight conceptual structures called folksonomies. The reason for their immediate success is the fact that no specific skills are needed for participating. At the moment, however, the information retrieval support is limited. We present a formal model and a new search algorithm for folksonomies, called FolkRank, that exploits the structure of the folksonomy. The proposed algorithm is also applied to find communities within the folksonomy and is used to structure search results. All findings are demonstrated on a large scale dataset. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

Integrated virtual reality with intelligent tutoring system, a multi-agent architecture was proposed for intelligent virtual training system (IVTS) for mine safety training. In order to make sure IVTS agent's task plans reliable and adaptive, a Petri nets-based declarative method was applied to model the virtual training task planning knowledge, which was represented as task planning knowledge Petri nets (TP-PNets), and an algorithm was implemented to construct TP-PNets. Then, hierarchy colored Petri nets (HCPN) was used to model multi-agent task planning behaviors for IVTS, and simulation and message sequence chart was used to analyze and verify the agent task planning HCPN model

Solid-state lighting technology is now emerging as a cost-competitive, energy-efficient alternative to conventional electrical lighting. We review the history of lighting, discuss the benefits and challenges of the solid-state lighting technologies, and compare two approaches for generating white light from solid-state sources based on phosphor LEDs (which could be considered as solid-state replacement of fluorescent tubes) and multichip LED lamps, which offer many advantages, such as chromaticity control, better light quality, and higher efficiency. © 2005 IEEE.

We have studied the hydrostatic pressure dependence of Ge nanocrystals embedded in a SiO2 matrix on a Si substrate by Raman scattering at room temperature. During the first cycle of increasing pressure, we observed a step change in the Ge Raman mode from 310.4 to 313.8cm−1 at ∼23kbar. The linear pressure coefficients α obtained before and after the step change at ∼23kbar are 0.42 and 0.64cm−1kbar−1, respectively. Upon decreasing pressure, the Ge mode follows a single slope of pressure coefficient α=0.64cm−1kbar−1. A finite-element analysis was carried out to investigate the elastic-field distribution in the Ge/SiO2/Si nanocrystal system, where the discontinuity of the specific geometric configuration with different elastic constants causes local areas of stress concentration around the interface. The step change of the Raman shifts with pressure at ∼23kbar was attributed to complete delamination between the SiO2 film and the Si substrate.

The large-scale interim spent fuel dry storage facilities from nuclear power plantsare planned to start operation by 2010 in Japan. The requirements of these facilities area big spent fuel storage capacity and a restricted site usage close to the boundary. Thesecause a strong request of precise and realistic dose estimation for licensing *** resolve this difficulty three dimensional Monte Carlo calculation methods areintroduced, which is always requested to compare the benchmark experiment of theshielding system for the verification of procedure and statistical errors. Here, two kindsof shielding benchmark experiments;the huge duct streaming and the cask shadowshielding experiments, were newly prepared to get these absent data. As a first step, the huge duct streaming experiment is outlined and the obtainedresults are discussed. Neutron and gamma flux and dose distributions in and around thestreaming duct were measured by moderating type neutron detectors, neutrondosimeters, activation foils, solid state track detectors (CR-39), thermoluminescentdosimeters, glass dosimeters, etc. These results are also compared with the Monte Carlocalculations. Through these procedures the know-how of the spatial dose estimation inand around a huge streaming duct were obtained.

The high power amplifier with class AB operation has a large memory effect and high non-linearity. The usual AM-AM and AM-PM data cannot properly describe the large distortion characteristics. We present an accurate block model of the amplifier based on the two tone transfer characteristics. The measurement setup of the two tone transfer characteristics are described. The measured and modeled amplitude and phase data of the two tone harmonics versus input power level are presented. This behavioral model will be very useful for the design of a predistortion linearizer of high power amplifiers and for the nonlinear system simulation with a large memory effect. © 2000 IEEE.

We present a broadband adaptive control method for IMT-2000 band multi-carrier power amplifiers adopting feedforward linearization. We have analyzed and implemented an error cancellation detection method employing a frequency hopping pilot and IF synchronous sampling correlator with DSP controller. An adaptive delta-modulated power gradient algorithm is used to adjust the signal and error cancellation loop control parameters. A 2.15 GHz feedforward power amplifier with digital controller is implemented. Band test results show that it covers over a 90 MHz band with more than 50 dBc of IMD at 5 MHz offset frequency for an 8.3 MHz WCDMA signal. The adaptation result shows very fast convergence.
