Bottom-up text detection methods play an important role in arbitrary-shape scene text detection but there are two restrictions preventing them from achieving their great potential, i.e., 1) the accumulation of false text segment detections, which affects subsequent processing, and 2) the difficulty of building reliable connections between text segments. Targeting these two problems, we propose a novel approach, named "MorphText", to capture the regularity of texts by embedding deep morphology for arbitrary-shape text detection. Towards this end, two deep morphological modules are designed to regularize text segments and determine the linkage between them. First, a Deep Morphological Opening (DMOP) module is constructed to remove false text segment detections generated in the feature extraction process. Then, a Deep Morphological Closing (DMCL) module is proposed to allow text instances of various shapes to stretch their morphology along their most significant orientation while deriving their connections. Extensive experiments conducted on four challenging benchmark datasets (CTW1500, Total-Text, MSRA-TD500 and ICDAR2017) demonstrate that our proposed MorphText outperforms both top-down and bottom-up state-of-the-art arbitrary-shape scene text detection approaches. computer simulations are an important tool for studying the mechanics of biological evolution. In particular, agent-based approaches provide an opportunity to collect high-quality records of ancestry relationships. Such phylogenies can provide insight into evolutionary dynamics within these simulations. Previous work generally tracks lineages directly, yielding an exact phylogenetic record of evolutionary history. However, challenges exist in scaling direct ancestrytracking approaches to highly-distributed, many-processor evolution in silico. An alternative approach is to estimate phylogenetic history via noncoding annotations on digital genomes, akin to how bioinformaticians build phylogenies by assessing genetic similarities between organisms. Recent work has extended this 'hereditary stratigraphy' approach to support powerful hardware accelerator platforms, such as the Cerebras Wafer-Scale Engine. Although these second-generation 'surface'-based hereditary stratigraphy algorithms have demonstrated order-ofmagnitude speedups over first-generation 'column'-based algorithms, it remains unknown how they impact the accuracy of reconstructed phylogenies. To address this question, we assessed reconstruction accuracy under alternative configurations across a matrix of evolutionary conditions varying in selection pressure, spatial structure, and ecological dynamics. Encouragingly, we find that the second-generation approaches provide higher reconstruction quality across most surveyed conditions. © 2025 IEEE.

Facial image based kinship verification aims to decide whether there exists kinship between the given facial images. In practice, the cross-generation differences will cause adverse effects on kinship verification, which limits the performance. Therefore, how to mine the implied similarity from facial images with large cross-generation divergence is an important problem in kinship verification, which has not yet been well studied. In view of this, we propose a Similarity Mining via Implicit matching pattern LEarning (SMILE) approach for kinship verification. Specifically, SMILE mainly consists of two modules, including a Semi-coupled Multi-pattern Similarity Learning (SMSL) module and a Cross-Generation Feature Normalization (CGFN) module. The SMSL module is designed to learn multiple semi-coupled matching patterns for mining the implicit facial similarity information from different perspectives. The CGFN module aims to reduce the divergence between facial images of parent and child. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

Digital currency is a way of currency utilized in the digital world namely electronic devices or digital forms. Many terms are alternative words for digital currency such as cyber cash, digital money, and electronic money. Cryptocurrency is a type of asset that has developed due to the progression of financial technology and it has made a tremendous chance for research workers. Cryptocurrency price prediction is challenging because of the dynamism and price volatility. The electronic economy is severely hazardous and should be advanced with greater caution, to minimize or avoid the risk that occurs in this case. Therefore, this study develops a new Bayesian optimization with Stacked Sparse Autoencoder based Cryptocurrency Price Prediction (BOSSAE-CPP) model. The major intention of the BOSSALCPP technique lies in the effectual prediction of cryptocurrency prices. To attain this, the BOSSAE-CPP technique exploits SSAE model for price prediction process. Moreover, the BO technique is used to optimally choose the hyperparameter values of the SSAE model and results in enhanced predictive outcomes. To deliberate the enhanced outcomes of the BOSSALCPP technique, extensive experimentation study is made. The comparison study highlighted the improved performance of the BOSSAE-CPP technique. © 2023 IEEE.

1data stream mining over a sliding window is a fundamental problem in many applications, such as financial data trackers, intrusion detection and QoS. To meet the demand for high throughput of high speed data streams, sliding window algorithms turn to hardware platforms including FPGA/ASIC and programmable switches. These hardware platforms have three constraints for algorithms running on, which are 1) small memory usage 2) single stage memory access and 3) limited concurrent memory access. Algorithms perfectly fit in with these constraints will enable a highest utilization of these hardware platforms. However, no existing sliding window algorithm is specifically designed for hardware platforms. In this paper, we propose the Sliding Hardware Estimator (SHE), which is a generic framework that extends existing fixed window algorithms to sliding windows on hardware platforms. The key idea of SHE is that, during insertions we approximately delete out-dated information with little time and space overhead, while during queries we design sophisticated techniques to minimize error. We have fully implemented our SHE on FPGA, achieving a throughput of 544 Mips. We apply SHE to four typical data stream mining tasks. Experimental results show that, when compared with the state-of-the-art which cannot be implemented in hardware, SHE reduces the error by up to 100 times in membership queries. Self-Improving Safety Performance of Reinforcement Learning Based Driving with Black-Box Verification Algorithms

In this work, we propose a self-improving artificial intelligence system to enhance the safety performance of reinforcement learning (RL)-based autonomous driving (AD) agents using black-box verification methods. RL algorithms have become popular in AD applications in recent years. However, the performance of existing RL algorithms heavily depends on the diversity of training scenarios. A lack of safety-critical scenarios during the training phase could result in poor generalization performance in real-world driving applications. We propose a novel framework in which the weaknesses of the training set are explored through black-box verification methods. After discovering AD failure scenarios, the RL agent’s training is re-initiated via transfer learning to improve the performance of previously unsafe scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate that our approach efficiently discovers safety failures of action decisions in RL-based adaptive cruise control (ACC) applications and significantly reduces the number of vehicle collisions through iterative applications of our method. There is a growing interest to use Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) inversed PWV for heavy rainfall prediction. When heavy rainfall occurs, it requires the atmosphere to contain sufficient water vapour and undergo strong upward motion. However, existing models using GNSS-PWV for heavy rainfall prediction have not accounted for the effect of the complex motion of water vapour. In this paper, an hourly heavy rainfall prediction model using sample entropy derived from GNSS-PWV and PSO-SVM is *** sample entropy of GNSS-PWV is used to measure the complexity of the water vapour movement process before heavy rainfall occurs. Meanwhile,combining GNSS-PWV time domain features(PWV value, PWV increment,PWV decrement, rate of PWV increment, rate of PWV decrement) and colocated meteorological data, the occurrence of hourly heavy rainfall events is predicted by support vector machine optimized with particle swarm. To verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed algorithm, Hong Kong’s HKSC station in Sham Shui Po is used for the model to train and test. The result shows that probability of detection, false alarm rate and critical success index of the proposed algorithm in this paper have significantly improved over other heavy rainfall prediction models.

In satellite communications, global navigation satellite systems(GNSS) and other important space activities, the value of total electron content(TEC)in the ionosphere directly affects the size of ionospheric delay. Achieving accurate prediction of ionospheric total electron content through modeling can effectively improve the reliability and accuracy of GNSS positioning. Considering the high prediction accuracy of long short-term memory neural network(LSTM)and the fast training speed of gated recurrent unit network(GRU), but it is easy to fall into the local optimum, while the width learning system(BLS) can effectively avoid this drawback. Therefore, this paper proposes a model for predicting the total electron content of the ionosphere, which consists of a broad learning system, an LSTM network and a GRU networks. Six parameters of TEC, geomagnetic index Dst, Kp, Ap, solar activity index F10.7, and hour(HD)are selected as input features from the observed data to predict the variation of the total ionospheric electron content. The results generate prediction maps of the total ionospheric electron content and are compared with empirical models and conventional neural network models at different times and solar activity conditions. The experimental results show that the root mean square error(RMSE)of the prediction results of this BLSLSTM-GRU model is decreased by 23.07%,17.48% and 9.46%compared with the IRI-2016, NeQuick and CNN-LSTM prediction models, respectively, with higher prediction accuracy.

With the advance of ai, road object detection has been a prominent topic in computer vision, mostly using perspective cameras. Fisheye lens provides omnidirectional wide coverage for using fewer cameras to monitor road intersections, however with view distortions. To our knowledge, there is no existing open dataset prepared for traffic surveillance on fisheye cameras. This paper introduces an open FishEye8K benchmark dataset for road object detection tasks, which comprises 157K bounding boxes across five classes (Pedestrian, Bike, Car, Bus, and Truck). In addition, we present benchmark results of State-of-The-Art (SoTA) models, including variations of YOLOv5, YOLOR, YOLO7, and YOLOv8. The dataset comprises 8,000 images recorded in 22 videos using 18 fisheye cameras for traffic monitoring in Hsinchu, Taiwan, at resolutions of 1080×1080 and 1280×1280. The data annotation and validation process were arduous and time-consuming, due to the ultra-wide panoramic and hemispherical fisheye camera images with large distortion and numerous road participants, particularly people riding scooters. To avoid bias, frames from a particular camera were assigned to either the training or test sets, maintaining a ratio of about 70:30 for both the number of images and bounding boxes in each class. Experimental results show that YOLOv8 and YOLOR outperform on input sizes 640×640 and 1280×1280, respectively. The dataset will be available on the GitHub link with PASCAL VOC, MS COCO, and YOLO annotation formats. The FishEye8K benchmark will provide significant contributions to the fisheye video analytics and smart city applications. © 2023 IEEE.
