In today's environment, cancer is a fatal disease. Skin cancer has become a fairly common malignancy due to the spread of several forms of cancer. Skin cancer is divided into two types: melanoma and non-melanoma. Melanoma is one of the most fatal tumors on the planet, and it can spread to other parts of the body if not diagnosed early enough. Our proposed system uses Five alternative methods to predict a skin lesion's borders, texture, and color: a neural network and four standard machine learning classifiers. To enhance their performance, the outputs of these systems are merged using majority voting. Experiments have demonstrated that combining the five strategies yields the maximum level of accuracy. Pre-processing, Segmentation, Feature Extraction, and Classification are four critical phases in skin cancer identification. Skin lesion images were collected for this research from the International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC), which contains over 3297 photos. The accuracy of the NN classifier is 91.9%, compared to 87.2% for the KNN classifier, 81.5% for the Naive Bayes classifier, 72.5% for the SVM classifier, and 68.3% for the DT classifier.

Brain tumors are one of the greatest causes of death worldwide. Due to that, early diagnosis and classification of the tumor would surely help increase the chance of survival for patients worldwide. However, classifying and identifying brain tumors requires certain tools, including using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to detect brain tumors. Moreover, many researchers in the past have also built up computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) systems to aid radiologists in their purpose of detecting brain abnormalities and tumors effectively. In this research, extracted multi-modal features like texture, morphological, entropy-based, Scale Invariant Features are proposed, and consequently, certain robust machine learning techniques, which are k-nearest neighbors (KNN), Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Naive Bayes, as well as the Logistic Regression classifier were used to analyze the two data-sets included in the paper, detect tumors found in the brain, not to mention, examining their results, which have then shown the highest accuracy when using the Logistic regression classifier in both data sets, with the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier following it, which further support the argument made in the paper.

In the evolving landscape of cloud computing, federated cloud infrastructures present unique challenges and opportunities for resource and application monitoring. Monitoring the diverse array of cloud resources and applications within a federated cloud environment is crucial for delivering consistent Quality of Service (QoS) and continuous oversight across various cloud applications and infrastructure. Despite the various successes documented in the literature on multi-cloud monitoring, existing frameworks have not fully explored or provided enough insights into centralized monitoring of resources, applications, and network devices in a federated cloud environment. This paper introduces FedMonitor, an implementation architecture designed to enhance the monitoring and notification capabilities in federated cloud environments by building on the theoretical ideals in our earlier work (i.e. FEDARGOS-V1). FedMonitor leverages Prometheus and Grafana to crawl, manage and visualize metrics from diverse software services, hardware resources, and network devices within a federated cloud environment. The results demonstrate hat FedMonitor improves the effectiveness of resource and application monitoring in federated cloud environments.

Handwritten digit recognition is a branch of machine learning in which a computer is taught to recognize hand-written numbers. Classification and regression are applied using deep learning and machine learning algorithms. In this paper, we discussed the efficiency of different algorithms: Random Forest, KNN, Naive Bayes, SVM, CNN, and Decision Tree Algorithm. Those algorithms were applied in the handwritten digit recognition process using the MINIST data set. By comparing each algorithm by training every one of them on the data set, then by testing, we got the best algorithm to get the optimal results with the highest accuracy. After comparing the results of each algorithm, it has shown that the neural network has the best results with 97.3% classification accuracy followed by K- the nearest neighbor with 97.2%.

The ratio of 1 and 2 norms (1/2), serving as a sparse promoting function, receives considerable attentions recently due to its effectiveness for sparse signal recovery. In this paper, we propose an 1/2 based penalty model for recovering sparse signals from noiseless or noisy observations. It is proven that stationary points of the proposed problem tend to those of the elliptically constrained 1/2 minimization problem as the smoothing parameter goes to zero. Moreover, inspired by the parametric approach for the fractional programming, we design a parameterized proximal-gradient algorithm (PPGA) as well as its line search counterpart (PPGA_L) for solving the proposed model. The closed-form solution of the involved proximity operator is derived, which enable the efficiency of the proposed algorithms. We establish the global convergence of the entire sequences generated by PPGA and PPGA_L with monotone objective values by taking advantage of the fact that the objective of the proposed model is a KL function. Numerical experiments show the efficiency of the proposed algorithms over the state-of-the-art methods in both noiseless and noisy sparse signal recovery problems. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Modularity is one of the four key principles of software design and architecture. According to this principle, software should be organized into modules that are tightly linked internally (high cohesion), whereas at the same time as independent from other modules as possible (low coupling). However, in practice, this principle is violated due to poor architecting design decisions, lack of time, or coding shortcuts, leading to a phenomenon termed as architectural technical debt (ATD). To alleviate this problem (lack of architectural modularity), the most common solution is the application of a software refactoring, namely Move Class - i.e., moving classes (the core artifact in object-oriented systems) from one module to another. To identify Move Class refactoring opportunities, we employ a search-based optimization process, relying on optimization metrics, through which optimal moves are derived. Given the extensive search space required for applying a brute-force search strategy, in this paper, we propose the use of a genetic algorithm that re-arranges existing software classes into existing or new modules (software packages in Java, or folders in C++). To validate the usefulness of the proposed refactorings, we performed an industrial case study on three projects (from the Aviation, Healthcare, and Manufacturing application domains). The results of the study indicate that the proposed architecture reconstruction is able to improve modularity, improving both coupling and cohesion. The obtained results can be useful to practitioners through an open source tool;whereas at the same point, they open interesting future work directions. © 2020 ACM.

Nowadays electricity is undoubtedly one of the most important goods. Over the years, the dependence of people on electrical devices has sharply increased. The need for continuous use of these devices has created greater demand for electricity as well as more efficient transmission techniques. Environmental energy scavenging, as well as wireless transmission, is an increasing research field during the last years. The use of Radio Frequency (RF) Energy Harvesting (EH) technique contributes to the development of autonomous energy devices and sensors, to reduce the need of supplying them with power by using batteries or the mains. In this paper, the state-of-the-art technologies of radio frequency energy harvesting are discussed and analyzed. © 2020 IEEE.

Challenges of deep learning methods for COVID-19 detection using public datasets

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, several research studies have proposed Deep Learning (DL)-based automated COVID-19 detection, reporting high cross-validation accuracy when classifying COVID-19 patients from normal or other common Pneumonia. Although the reported outcomes are very high in most cases, these results were obtained without an independent test set from a separate data source(s). DL models are likely to overfit training data distribution when independent test sets are not utilized or are prone to learn dataset-specific artifacts rather than the actual disease characteristics and underlying pathology. This study aims to assess the promise of such DL methods and datasets by investigating the key challenges and issues by examining the compositions of the available public image datasets and designing different experimental setups. A convolutional neural network-based network, called CVR-Net (COVID-19 Recognition Network), has been proposed for conducting comprehensive experiments to validate our hypothesis. The presented end-to-end CVR-Net is a multi-scale-multi-encoder ensemble model that aggregates the outputs from two different encoders and their different scales to convey the final prediction probability. Three different classification tasks, such as 2-, 3-, 4-classes, are designed where the train–test datasets are from the single, multiple, and independent sources. The obtained binary classification accuracy is 99.8% for a single train–test data source, where the accuracies fall to 98.4% and 88.7% when multiple and independent train–test data sources are utilized. Similar outcomes are noticed in multi-class categorization tasks for single, multiple, and independent data sources, highlighting the challenges in developing DL models with the existing public datasets without an independent test set from a separate dataset. Towards the Information-Theoretic Limit of Programmable Photonics

The scalability of many programmable photonic circuits is limited by the 2π tuning range needed for the constituent phase shifters. To address this problem, we introduce the concept of a phase-efficient circuit architecture, where the average phase shift is 2π. We derive a universal information-theoretic limit to the phase-shift efficiency of universal multiport interferometers, and propose a "3-MZI" architecture that approaches this limit to within a factor of 2×, approximately a 10× reduction in average phase shift over the prior art, where the average phase shift scales inversely with system size as O(1/√N). For non-unitary circuits, we show that the 3-MZI saturates the theoretical bound for Gaussian-distributed target matrices. Using this architecture, we show optical neural network training with all phase shifters constrained to 0.2 radians without loss of accuracy. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have facilitated remarkable success in recognizing various food items and agricultural stress. A decent performance boost has been witnessed in solving the agro-food challenges by mining and analyzing of region-based partial feature descriptors. Also, computationally expensive ensemble learning schemes fusing multiple CNNs have been studied in earlier works. This work proposes a region attention scheme for modeling long-range dependencies by building a correlation among different regions within an input image. The attention method enhances feature representation by learning the usefulness of context information from complementary regions. Spatial pyramidal pooling and average pooling pair aggregate partial descriptors into a holistic representation. Both pooling methods establish spatial and channel-wise relationships without incurring extra parameters. A context gating scheme is applied to refine the descriptiveness of weighted attentional features, which is relevant for classification. The proposed Region Attention network for Food items and Agricultural stress recognition method, dubbed RAFA-Net, has been experimented on three public food datasets, and has achieved state-of-the-art performances with distinct margins. The highest top-1 accuracies of RAFA-Net are 91.69%, 91.56%, and 96.97% on the UECFood-100, UECFood-256, and MAFood-121 datasets, respectively. In addition, better accuracies have been achieved on two benchmark agricultural stress datasets. The best top-1 accuracies on the Insect Pest (IP-102) and PlantDoc-27 plant disease datasets are 92.36%, and 85.54%, respectively;implying RAFA-Net’s generalization capability. © 2024, CC BY.
