MENAHIA (Middle East and North African Health informatics Association) is the International Medical informatics Association chapter dedicated to the Middle East and North Africa region. This region is rapidly growing in terms of the use of health informatics or what has been recently coined digital health. Human health is highly affected by the health of the environment, animal health, food, nutrition, climate change, and many other factors that are beyond the biological or genetic structure of human beings. The impact of animal health and the health of the environment on people's health is an old phenomenon but recent reemerging and appearance of diseases have clearly demonstrated the link between these. The Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that almost all of us have been suffering from is an example of this. A number of countries in the region have already shown the depth and the work that they do to integrate the concept of 'One Health' in the public health surveillance system as they have described the work that has been done to capture data from databases other than those dealing with human beings. The examples that were provided to monitor the health of animals, agriculture, environmental health, climate change, and man-made and natural disasters are just examples of what countries have been registering in their databases and informing the health authorities of these changes and emerging trends. © The Author(s) 2023.

Over the last few decades, nonlinear optics has become significantly more nonlinear, traversing nearly a billionfold improvement in energy efficiency, with ultrafast nonlinear nanophotonics in particular emerging as a frontier for combining both spatial and temporal engineering. At present, cutting-edge experiments in nonlinear nanophotonics place us just above the mesoscopic regime, where a few hundred photons suffice to trigger nonlinear saturation. In contrast to classical or deep-quantum optics, the mesoscale is characterized by dynamical interactions between mean-field, Gaussian, and non-Gaussian quantum features, all within a close hierarchy of scales. When combined with the inherent multimode complexity of optical fields, such hybrid quantum-classical dynamics present theoretical, experimental, and engineering challenges to the contemporary framework of quantum optics. In this review, we highlight the unique physics that emerges in multimode nonlinear optics at the mesoscale and outline key principles for exploiting both classical and quantum features to engineer novel functionalities. We briefly survey the experimental landscape and draw attention to outstanding technical challenges in materials, dispersion engineering, and device design for accessing mesoscopic operation. Finally, we speculate on how these capabilities might usher in some new paradigms in quantum photonics, from quantum-augmented information processing to nonclassical-light-driven dynamics and phenomena to all-optical non-Gaussian measurement and sensing. The physics unlocked at the mesoscale present significant challenges and opportunities in theory and experiment alike, and this review is intended to serve as a guidepost as we begin to navigate this new frontier in ultrafast quantum nonlinear optics. In this paper we study two classical cut problems, namely Multicut and Multiway Cut on chordal graphs and split graphs. In the Multicut problem, the input is a graph G, a collection of vertex pairs (si, ti), i ∈ [], and a positive integer k and the goal is to decide if there exists a vertex subset S ⊆ V (G) \ {si, ti: i ∈ []} of size at most k such that for every vertex pair (si, ti), si and ti are in two different connected components of G − S. In Unrestricted Multicut, the solution S can possibly pick the vertices in the vertex pairs {(si, ti): i ∈ []}. An important special case of the Multicut problem is the Multiway Cut problem, where instead of vertex pairs, we are given a set T of terminal vertices, and the goal is to separate every pair of distinct vertices in T × T. The fixed parameter tractability (FPT) of these problems was a long-standing open problem and has been resolved fairly recently. Multicut and Multiway Cut now admit algorithms with running times 2O(k3)nO(1) and 2knO(1), respectively. However, the kernelization complexity of both these problems is not fully resolved: while Multicut cannot admit a polynomial kernel under reasonable complexity assumptions, it is a well known open problem to construct a polynomial kernel for Multiway Cut. Towards designing faster FPT algorithms and polynomial kernels for the above mentioned problems, we study them on chordal and split graphs. In particular we obtain the following results. 1. Multicut on chordal graphs admits a polynomial kernel with O(k37) vertices. Multiway Cut on chordal graphs admits a polynomial kernel with O(k13) vertices. 2. Multicut on chordal graphs can be solved in time min{O(2k · (k3 + ) · (n + m)), 2O( log k) · (n + m) + (n + m)}. Hence Multicut on chordal graphs parameterized by the number of terminals is in XP. 3. Multicut on split graphs can be solved in time min{O(1.2738k+kn+(n+m), O(2·`·(n+m))}. Unrestricted Multicut on split graphs can be solved in time O(4 · · (n + m)). © Nathalie B

The contribution focuses on the investigation of robust stability for fractional-order linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with the multilinear structure of ellipsoidal parametric uncertainty, i.e., the analyzed family of fractional-order polynomials has the multilinear uncertainty structure and an ellipsoid-shaped uncertainty bounding set. The robust stability test is based on the numerical calculation and subsequent plot of the value sets, and the application of the zero exclusion condition. Unlike the previously published works, this contribution shows that, contrary to the case of a two-dimensional ellipse of parameters, the internal points of a three-dimensional ellipsoid of parameters cannot create the boundary of the value set in the complex plane even under more complicated uncertainty structures, such as the multilinear one. © 2020, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper presents a novel approach for head tracking in augmented reality (AR) flight simulators using an adaptive fusion of Kalman and particle filters. This fusion dynamically balances the strengths of both algorithms, leveraging Kalman filters for computational efficiency and particle filters for handling non-linearities based on real-time factors such as sensor noise and head movement patterns. Our method demonstrates superior tracking precision and reduced latency, making it particularly effective for immersive pilot training in AR-based flight simulations. While focused on flight simulation, our approach holds high potential for broader applications in other AR and virtual reality (VR) environments where precise, real-time head tracking is crucial. These results provide actionable design guidance for developers optimizing tracking systems in environments that require fast response times and high accuracy. Future extensions of this research could explore the generalization of our approach across diverse AR applications, including human-computer interaction (HCI), medical simulations, and gaming. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

OBJECTIVES: To build datasets containing useful information from drug databases and recommend a list of drugs to physicians and patients with high accuracy by considering features of a spectrum of people, diseases, and chemicals. METHODS: A comprehensive pharmaceutical recommendation system was designed based on the features of a spectrum of people, diseases, and medicines extracted from two major drug databases, a dataset of patients and drug information. Then the recommendation was given, and the response was analysed using patient and caregiver ratings and the knowledge obtained from drug specifications and interactions. Sentiment analysis was employed by natural language processing approaches in pre-processing, along with neural network-based methods and recommender system algorithms for modelling the system. Patient conditions and medicine features were used for making two models based on matrix factorisation. Then we used drug interaction criteria to filter drugs with severe or mild interactions with other drugs. We developed a deep learning model for recommending drugs by using data from 2304 patients as a training set, and then we used data from 660 patients as our validation set. We used knowledge from critical drug information and combined the model’s outcome into a knowledge-based system with the rules obtained from constraints on taking medicine. RESULTS: The results show that our recommendation system can recommend an acceptable combination of medicines according to the existing real-life prescriptions available. Compared with conventional matrix factorisation, our proposed model improves the accuracy, sensitivity, and hit rate by 26%, 34%, and 40%, respectively. In addition, it improves the accuracy, sensitivity, and hit rate by an average of 31%, 29%, and 28% compared to other machine learning methods. We have open-sourced our implementation in Python. This paper discusses the application of the Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system in image classification for various types of batik in the region. The aim is to detect and recognize certain types of batik with high accuracy, as well as develop a digital image-based security system for various types of batik with various motifs, patterns, and colors. In this research, a typical South Sulawesi batik type, namely Lontara motif batik, was used as a sample. The methods used to perform feature extraction and classification are the Gray Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). The use of GLCM is equipped with the Angular Second Moment (ASM) feature with contrast, correlation, energy, and homogeneity parameters, so that the image data extraction results will be more accurate. Apart from that, the combination with the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) algorithm will make it easier for the system to carry out classification because MLP uses three training functions, namely Levenberg-Marquardt (LM), Variable Learning Rate Backpropagation (GDX), and Scaled Conjugate Gradient (SCG), which produce high accuracy values at smaller epochs. The best accuracy value obtained in the test results was 88.89%. The combination of the GLCM-MLP method can be used as a solution to accurately detect various batik motifs.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the 2 nd most prevalent neurodegenerative disease in the world. Thus, the early detection of PD has recently been the subject of several scientific and commercial studies. In this paper, we propose a pipeline using Vision Transformer applied to mel-spectrograms for PD classification using multilingual sustained vowel recordings. Furthermore, our proposed transformed-based model shows a great potential to use voice as a single modality biomarker for automatic PD detection without language restrictions, a wide range of vowels, with an F1-score equal to 0.78. The results of our study fall within the range of the estimated prevalence of voice and speech disorders in Parkinson’s disease, which ranges from 70-90%. Our study demonstrates a high potential for adaptation in clinical decision-making, allowing for increasingly systematic and fast diagnosis of PD with the potential for use in *** relevance— There is an urgent need to develop non invasive biomarker of Parkinson’s disease effective enough to detect the onset of the disease to introduce neuroprotective treatment at the earliest stage possible and to follow the results of that intervention. Voice disorders in PD are very frequent and are expected to be utilized as an early diagnostic biomarker. The voice analysis using deep neural networks open new opportunities to assess neurodegenerative diseases’ symptoms, for fast diagnosis-making, to guide treatment initiation, and risk prediction. The detection accuracy for voice biomarkers according to our method reached close to the maximum achievable value.

Soliton generation in AlGaAs microresonators at room temperature

Chip-integrated optical frequency combs are attractive optical sources in comb applications requiring high-repetition-rate, low power consumption, or compact size. Spontaneous soliton formation via Kerr parametric oscillation is a promising generation principle in these frequency combs, and has been demonstrated in several material platforms over the past decade. Of these materials, AlGaAs has one of the largest Kerr nonlinearity coefficients allowing low pump threshold comb generation. However, bright soliton generation using this material has only been possible at cryogenic temperature because of the large thermo-optic effect at room temperature, which hinders stable access to the soliton regime. Here, we report self-stabilized single soliton generation in AlGaAs microresonators at room temperature by utilizing a rising soliton step in large free-spectral-range resonators. With sub-milliWatt optical pump power, 1 THz repetition-rate soliton generation is demonstrated. Perfect soliton crystal formation and soliton breather states are also observed. Besides the advantages of large optical nonlinearity, the devices are natural candidates for integration with III-V pump lasers. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Most modern high-data-rate optical communication systems require at each end a light source to transmit the data and a detector to receive the data. In order to realize a communication scheme where the transmitter unites with the receiver, we take advantage of a coupled injection-locked semiconduct. From the theoretical description of two mutually coupled diode lasers using a set of six nonlinear differential-delay equations we outline the stable compound cavity solutions of this system and investigate their dependencies in terms of locking bandwidth, coupling strength and coupling phase. From these modeling results we then design a remarkably simple communication system without any additional detectors that exploits compound laser states of different frequency detunings of the coupled laser system as information carriers with simultaneous upstream information of the first laser and downstream information of the second laser. The data recognition is accomplished by evaluating the compound state utilizing the change in the terminal voltage of both lasers (laser-as-detector principle) with respect to their solitary case (i.e., the terminal voltage of the uncoupled lasers), yielding the message via the agreed decoding scheme. The functionality of the principle had been demonstrated by a table-top experiment with good error-free transmission and potential to improve the transmission speed of this proof-of-principle demonstration. Our concept reduces the complexity compared to conventional transmission systems, thus providing the potential to significantly reduce the costs of the overall transmission setup an,d in particular, transferring the concept to other challenging wavelengths and other semiconductor lasers. Since the optical signal then no longer needs to be detected by an optical detection unit, the amount of optical components required for ordinary data transmission is reduced.
