This paper studies distributed coordination algorithms for multiple fractional-order systems over a directed communication graph. A general fractional-order consensus model is introduced by summarizing three different cases: (i) fractional-order agent dynamics with integer-order consensus algorithms, (ii) fractional-order agent dynamics with fractional-order consensus algorithms, and (iii) integer-order agent dynamics with fractional-order consensus algorithms. We show sufficient conditions on the communication graph and the fractional order such that consensus can be achieved using the general model. The consensus equilibrium is also given explicitly. In addition, we characterize the relationship between the number of agents and the fractional order to ensure consensus. Furthermore, we compare the convergence speed of consensus for fractional-order systems with that for integer-order systems. It is shown that the convergence speed of the fractional-order consensus algorithms can be improved by varying the fractional orders with time. Finally, simulation results are presented as a proof of concept.

In this paper, we formulate the fractional linear quadratic regulator (LQR) problem. The analytical solution of fractional optimal control near the origin and infinity are derived. It is shown that the optimal control to the linear fractional system can be computed through the corresponding fractional Euler-Lagrange equations. Moreover, the analytical analysis of right-sided fractional equation is discussed, which relates to the construction and solution of fractional LQR problems. The matrix Mittag-Leffler function is used here to serve as the fundamental solution of high-dimension linear fractional equations. More detailed discussions about fractional systems and right-sided fractional operators are provided and summarized. Finally, two illustrated simulation results are provided as a proof of concept.

In recent years, a large number of nonlinear optimal control problems have been solved by pseudospectral (PS) methods. In an effort to better understand the PS approach to solving control problems, we present convergence results for problems with mixed state and control constraints. A set of sufficient conditions are proved under which the solution of the discretized optimal control problem converges to the continuous solution. Conditions for the convergence of the duals are described and illustrated. This leads to a clarification of covector mapping theorem and its connections to constraint qualifications

In this paper, we propose a novel affine invariant Eulidean Distance of images, named annulus Eulidean Distance (AED). Unlike the traditional Eulidean distance, the AED takes into account the spatial correlation between ***, it is invariant to the scale, rotation and shift transformation for images. The method is motivated that the annulus is intuitively rotation invariant, then combined with the centralization and normalization of the images, the AED is variant to affine transformation (AT). The key advantage of this distance is that it is a simple and tractable way to measure the difference between images with some deformations. Some examples in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Texture Retrieval are presented to show the power of the *** results demonstrate that the AED is a simple,efficient and powerful way to measure the difference between images.

A new family of windows is constructed by convolutions via a few rectangular windows with same time width and is thus referred to as convolution windows. The expressions of the second-order up to the eighth-order convolution windows in both the time and frequency domains are derived. Their applications in high accuracy harmonic analysis of periodic signals are investigated. Comparisons between the proposed windows and some known windows with the same width shows that, when the synchronous deviation of data sampling is slight, the proposed ones have the least effect of spectral leakage. Therefore, the new windows are well suited for high accuracy harmonic analysis and parameter estimation for periodic signals. The error analysis and computer simulations show that the estimation errors, corresponding to frequency, amplitude and phase of every harmonic component of a signal, are proportional to the pth power of the relative frequency deviation in case of the pth-order convolution window is applied to windowing signal of approximately p cycles. By introducing real time adjustment in sampling interval, the proposed algorithm can adaptively trace signal frequency and lead to less sampling synchronous deviation. The proposed approach has the advantages of easy implementation and high measure precision and can be used in harmonic analysis of quasi-periodic signals whose fundamental frequency drifts slowly with time.

When the current reference of a shunt active power filter (SAPF) changes quicker than the output current can change, the output of the APF cannot precisely track the current reference. Undesired harmonics will be generated by the APF due to the controller saturation. Based on detailed analysis of the reason and consequences of the controller saturation problem, this paper proposes an adaptive saturation scheme to suppress the effect of saturation by using the feedback of the current error signal. The proposed scheme can adaptively adjust the capacity of the APF according to different load conditions. The adjusted reference is still in phase with the original calculated harmonics and contains no extra undesired harmonics. Also, this algorithm has no risk of affecting the reference when there is no saturation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can operate effectively and the effect of saturation is greatly reduced

Constructing new, complex models is often done by reusing parts of existing models, typically by applying a sequence of segmentation, alignment and composition operations. Segmentation, either manual or automatic, is rarely adequate for this task, since it is applied to each model independently, leaving it to the user to trim the models and determine where to connect them. In this paper we propose a new composition tool. Our tool obtains as input two models, aligned either manually or automatically, and a small set of constraints indicating which portions of the two models should be preserved in the final output. It then automatically negotiates the best location to connect the models, trimming and stitching them as required to produce a seamless result. We offer a method based on the graph theoretic minimal cut as a means of implementing this new tool. We describe a system intended for both expert and novice users, allowing easy and flexible control over the composition result. In addition, we show our method to be well suited for a variety of model processing applications such as model repair, hole filling, and piecewise rigid deformations.

It is generally believed that the queueing behavior of an arrival process is most sensitive to its first and second order statistics. In this paper, we show that this is not generally true. We consider the queueing behavior of two classes of sources. The first class is the superposition of multiple discrete autoregressive sources of order 1 (referred to as DAR(1) sources), and the second class is a single DAR(1) source having the same first and second order statistics as the superposed source. In particular, we show that in the homogeneous case, the mean queue lengths of the two models are identical, but the queue length variances of the two models are significantly different depending on the correlation of individual sources.

Goal driven intelligent agents and fuzzy reference gain-scheduling (FRGS) approach are described As interchangeable concepts that are able to deal with dynamic complex problems. It is advocated that the FRGS approach may be viewed as an autonomous goal-based agent, that is, a fuzzy logic based agent able to autonomously adapt itself to environmental changes introduced by external inputs. The concept of fuzzy systems and intelligent agent are employed in decision-making problems to lead to a certain degree of autonomy in decision support system. Although the FRGS method was originally proposed for control application, this approach was extended to decision-making tasks due to its ability of emulating human reasoning. This new agent approach uses the external input information also denominated reference (goal) as the driven mechanism to determine the behavior of the system in order to achieve the desired objectives (goal). Thus, the FRGS approach can be modeled in the framework of an adaptive and goal (also context or environment) driven agent.
