Quasi (pseudo/approximate) periodic signals often occur in natural settings, particularly when a periodic signal is recorded with noise. In this work, we develop a new dynamical equation system to construct a family of Quasi-periodic Gaussian Processes (QPGP). We provide a computationally inexpensive algorithm based on a newly derived likelihood function for parameter estimation. Our approach also simplifies the signal forecasting. We illustrate via a simulation study that the proposed QPGP estimation strategy is faster as well and more accurate than existing constructions. Unlike these existing models, the proposed approach extends to multiple families of kernels, which we illustrate by modeling sunspot data with both periodic Matérn and MacKay's covariance kernel. This shows the exclusive advantage of the new QPGP family proposed in this work. © 2025 IEEE.

A complex of hardware and software tools for conducting monitoring studies of the condition of soil areas is proposed. The presented developments refer to measuring tools that can be integrated into existing information systems for surface water systems, in particular, critical water supply infrastructure. The paper proposes a system of local monitoring on controlled modules of drying and humidification systems for collecting, transmitting and analyzing technological parameters necessary for spatio-temporal assessment of their impact on the formation of the reclamation regime of soil areas using means of moisture measurement and assessment of the state of soil massifs. The method of calculating the humidity of soil areas based on measured data is shown, and the simulation of transient processes in the mode of water saturation or drainage of soil massifs is carried out. © 2023 IEEE.

Adaptive Reversible Visible Watermarking Based on Total Variation for BTC-Compressed Images

Few previous Reversible Visible Watermarking(RVW)schemes have both good transparency and watermark *** adaptive RVW scheme that integrates Total Variation and visual perception in Block Truncation Coding(BTC)compressed domain,called TVB-RVW is proposed in this paper.A new mean image estimation method for BTC-compressed images is first developed with the help of Total ***,a visual perception factor computation model is devised by fusing texture and luminance *** adaptive watermark embedding strategy is used to embed the visible watermark with the effect of the visual perception factor in the BTC ***,a lossless embedding method of the encrypted visible watermark is exploited to deter illegal watermark *** visible watermark can be removed since the visual perception factor and the estimated mean image remain unchanged before and after watermark *** experiments validate the superiority of the proposed algorithm over previous RVW schemes in BTC in terms of the visual quality of watermarked images and watermark visibility,and it can achieve a good balance between transparency and watermark visibility.

Paradoxical roles of inhibitory autapse and excitatory synapse in formation of counterintuitive anticipated synchronization

Different from the common delayed synchronization(DS)in which response appears after stimulation,anticipated synchronization(AS)in unidirectionally coupled neurons denotes a counterintuitive phenomenon in which response of the receiver neuron appears before stimulation of the sender neuron,showing an interesting function of brain to anticipate the *** dynamical mechanism for the AS remains unclear due to complex dynamics of inhibitory and excitatory *** this article,the paradoxical roles of excitatory synapse and inhibitory autapse in the formation of AS are ***,in addition to the common roles such that inhibitory modulation delays and excitatory modulation advances spike,paradoxical roles of excitatory stimulation to delay spike via type-II phase response and of inhibitory autapse to advance spike are obtained in suitable parameter regions,extending the dynamics and functions of the excitatory and inhibitory ***,AS is related to the paradoxical roles of the excitatory and inhibitory modulations,presenting deep understandings to the *** autapse induces spike of the receiver neuron advanced to appear before that of the sender neuron at first,and then excitatory synapse plays a delay role to prevent the spike further advanced,resulting in the AS as the advance and delay effects realize a dynamic ***,inhibitory autapse with strong advance,middle advance,and weak advance and delay effects induce phase drift(spike of the receiver neuron advances continuously),AS,and DS,respectively,presenting comprehensive relationships between AS and other *** results present potential measures to modulate AS related to brain function.

Accurate nuclei segmentation is fundamental in histology image analysis, playing an essential role in cancer grading and diagnosis. However, this task remains challenging due to variations in staining protocols, heterogeneity among nuclei types, and the densely clustered nature of nuclei. While SAM exhibits zero-shot generalization capabilities in natural image segmentation, its performance degrades when applied to nuclei segmentation in histology images. Existing adaptations of SAM for medical imaging primarily focus on organ or lesion segmentation, which differs substantially from nuclei segmentation due to the unique characteristics of nuclei - specifically, their sparse distribution combined with dense clustering. To address these challenges, we propose Edge-SAN (Segment Any Nuclei with Edge Prompting), an interactive segmentation foundation model specifically designed for nuclei segmentation. Edge-SAN introduces a novel edge prompting method that enhances the delineation of nuclei boundaries, particularly among densely clustered nuclei, by leveraging edge information to improve segmentation accuracy. We evaluate Edge-SAN on 12 diverse datasets in both few-shot and zero-shot scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness as a foundation model for nuclei segmentation, achieving 66.81% AJI and 73.13% DSC - improvements of 16.33% and 15.48% over SAM-Med2D, respectively. We present a mechanical model for an oscillator with one degree of freedom under the influence of a flowing medium. Under fairly general conditions we show that the ensuing differential equation has at most two limit cycles and we give examples where exactly two limit cycles will occur. The implications of this result are that it is possible for a system of this kind to exhibit galloping even when the so-called Den Hartog criterion of local instability is not satisfied. © 2023, The Author(s).

In addition to traditional approaches, several computerized techniques have been developed to enhance the results. The automation in the medical domain considerably reduced the burden and improved disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation. With the advent of automation, the medical domain has greatly reduced the burden of diagnosing diseases, developing treatment plans, and implementing them. This research aims to develop image-processing assisted detection of Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DF) from digital photographs. Digital photographs are used to assist in diagnosing Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DF). As part of the developed tool, (i) images are collected and resized, (ii) Otsu/Kapur and Hummingbird-optimizer thresholding is supported, (iii) level-set segmentation is used to extract the DF region, and (iv) the developed scheme is compared with the binary mask and its performance is verified. A total of 300 images are examined in this work, and MATLAB software is used to conduct the experiments. Comparing Otsu + LS with Kapur + LS, the overall result achieved with Kapur’s enhanced image is better than that of Otsu + LS. Authentic clinical DF images can be used to verify the proposed scheme in the future. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
