In this correspondence, we propose a movable antenna (MA)-aided multi-user hybrid beamforming scheme with a sub-connected structure, where multiple movable sub-arrays can independently change their positions within different local regions. To maximize the system sum rate, we jointly optimize the digital beamformer, analog beamformer, and positions of sub-arrays, under the constraints of unit modulus, finite movable regions, and power budget. Due to the non-concave/non-convex objective function/constraints, as well as the highly coupled variables, the formulated problem is challenging to solve. By employing fractional programming, we develop an alternating optimization framework to solve the problem via a combination of Lagrange multipliers, penalty method, and gradient descent. Numerical results reveal that the proposed MA-aided hybrid beamforming scheme significantly improves the sum rate compared to its fixed-position antenna (FPA) counterpart. Moreover, with sufficiently large movable regions, the proposed scheme with sub-connected MA arrays even outperforms the fully-connected FPA array. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Analogue Hamiltonian simulation is a promising application of quantum computing in the NISQ era. Recent work has demonstrated the existence of universal Hamiltonians – simple spin lattice models that can simulate any other quantum many body system. Until now proofs of universality have relied on explicit constructions, which are shown to be able to replicate the physics of some arbitrary target Hamiltonian. In this work, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for a family of Hamiltonians to be universal. The proof relies on complexity theoretic concepts – leveraging the ability to encode quantum computation into the ground states of Hamiltonians. This offers a far simpler route to proving universality, and provides insight into the relationship between complexity and universality. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Current quantum computing hardware is restricted by the availability of only few, noisy qubits which limits the investigation of larger, more complex molecules in quantum chemistry calculations on quantum computers in the near-term. In this work, we investigate the limits of their classical and near-classical treatment while staying within the framework of quantum circuits and the variational quantum eigensolver. To this end, we consider naive and physically motivated, classically efficient product ansatz for the parametrized wavefunction adapting the separable pair ansatz form. We combine it with post-treatment to account for interactions between subsystems originating from this ansatz. The classical treatment is given by another quantum circuit that has support between the enforced subsystems and is folded into the Hamiltonian. To avoid an exponential increase in the number of Hamiltonian terms, the entangling operations are constructed from purely Clifford or near-Clifford circuits. While Clifford circuits can be simulated efficiently classically, they are not universal. In order to account for missing expressibility, near-Clifford circuits with only few, selected non-Clifford gates are employed. The exact circuit structure to achieve this objective is molecule-dependent and is constructed using simulated annealing and genetic algorithms. Cell imaging assays utilizing fluorescence stains are essential for observing sub-cellular organelles and their responses to perturbations. Immunofluorescent staining process is routinely in labs, however the recent innovations in generative AI is challenging the idea of wet lab immunofluorescence (IF) staining. This is especially true when the availability and cost of specific fluorescence dyes is a problem to some labs. Furthermore, staining process takes time and leads to inter-intra-technician and hinders downstream image and data analysis, and the reusability of image data for other projects. Recent studies showed the use of generated synthetic IF images from brightfield (BF) images using generative AI algorithms in the literature. Therefore, in this study, we benchmark and compare five models from three types of IF generation backbones-CNN, GAN, and diffusion models-using a publicly available dataset. This paper not only serves as a comparative study to determine the best-performing model but also proposes a comprehensive analysis pipeline for evaluating the efficacy of generators in IF image synthesis. We highlighted the potential of deep learning-based generators for IF image synthesis, while also discussed potential issues and future research directions. Although generative AI shows promise in simplifying cell phenotyping using only BF images with IF staining, further research and validations are needed to address the key challenges of model generalisability, batch effects, feature relevance and computational costs. © 2024, CC BY.

State of health estimation of battery is crucial to ensure the safety and durability of electric vehicles. This paper presents six methods to extract the battery health indicator from electric vehicle field testing data. The methods for extracting health indicators from the discharge cycle show the ability to cope with the variable driving condition. In total, 157 health indicators are extracted from the collected data. Pearson correlation coefficient and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient are used to measure the correlation between the health indicators and the state of health. The results suggest that health indicators extracted by the presented methods have high correlations to the battery state of health.

The chemical-technological process of phosphate pellets drying is investigated in the paper. The hybrid fuzzy kinetic model of phosphorite pellets drying process is proposed. The features of the proposed model are as follows: firstly, differential equations with fuzzy thermal-physical characteristics of pellets are used to estimate the thermal conductivity of pellets;secondly, a fuzzy rule-based model is used to determine the most difficult parameters to calculate. The method based on the developed hybrid model is proposed for analyzing the drying process of phosphorite pellets. The proposed method uses an original approach that allows solving the problem of increasing uncertainty of results in iterative calculations based on the modal interaction of fuzzy thermal characteristics represented by fuzzy numbers. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this study, we investigate the mechanical properties of gold (Au) materials using molecular dynamics simulations. In this simulation, the nanoindentation process was performed to analyze the deformation defects and hardness properties of Au under different indentation velocities. The results suggest that the deformation behavior of the Au specimen was affected by different indentation velocities. These findings were confirmed by examining the load-displacement curve, which indicated elastic deformation through the appearance of a linear load-displacement relationship at low indentation velocities. In contrast, plastic deformation was identified by the presence of intensified serrations in the load-displacement curve at higher indentation velocities. Under such conditions, the hardness exhibited minimal variation when the indenter velocity increased from 5 mls to 10 mls. However, a significant increase in hardness was noted when the indentation velocity was further raised to 15 mls.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) video transmission has been extensively applied in many crucial fields. However, the problem of designing a rate-distortion (R-D) model for UAV video transmission, which is essential for theoretical analysis of video coding and optimization of video transmission quality, is under-studied. The designed R-D model is desired to be simple, accurate, and generic owing to the limited capability of the UAV. Observing the key role of transformed residuals in the R-D model, this paper elaborately discusses the modeling of the transformed residual distribution and proposes an estimation algorithm to estimate the statistical parameter of the distribution. Specifically, considering the stringent requirements for low complexity and high generalization capability, we first design a linear parameter estimator by mining and analyzing UAV video statistical characteristics. Further, we develop a bias update scheme to improve the accuracy of the estimator. Test results on multiple real video sequences taken by UAVs show that the proposed estimation algorithm is more accurate than benchmarks.

In this paper, a deep learning based hyperspectral image analysis for detecting contaminated shrimp is proposed. The ability of distinguishing shrimps into two classes: clean and contaminated shrimps is visualized by t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) using spectral feature data. Using only some small data set of hyperspectral images of shrimps, a simple processing technique is applied to generate enough data for training a deep neural network (DNN) with high reliability. Our results attain the accuracy of 98% and F1-score over 94%. This works confirms that with only few data samples, Hyperspectral Imaging processing technique together with DNN can be used to classify abnormality in agricultural productions like shrimp. © 2020, ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

Opinion mining on social media posts has become more and more popular. Users often express their opinion on a topic not only with words but they also use image symbols such as emoticons and emoji. In this paper, we investigate the effect of emoji-based features in opinion classification of Uzbek texts, and more specifically movie review comments from YouTube. Several classification algorithms are tested, and feature ranking is performed to evaluate the discriminative ability of the emoji-based features. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
