The ability to deliver results promptly has become crucial for analytical frameworks due to the swift increase in data volumes. Complex algorithms are needed to schedule data processing activities on distributed compute clusters efficiently. Because it is impractical to create and fine-tune a scheduling policy for every task, current systems rely on basic, generic heuristics and neglect workload peculiarities. Effective task scheduling is essential for optimising the performance of fog computing systems. Fog nodes are dynamic, heterogeneous, and resource-constrained, and traditional task scheduling techniques, which were largely created for centralised cloud settings, frequently cannot accommodate these characteristics. We provide a cutting-edge machine learning (ML) based solution that adjusts job assignment to the evolving needs of the Fog environment in order to get beyond these restrictions. Fuzzy logic, a reliable unsupervised learning method, is used with the K-Means clustering algorithm in our method to effectively group. We have used Python to model and assess our suggested method. The simulation findings validate the effectiveness of our scheduling method, demonstrating notable improvements in response time, reduced network usage, and execution time reduction in comparison to other ML and non-ML based scheduling techniques available in the Python framework. © 2025 IEEE.

Quantum computing is progressing at a fast rate and there is a real threat that classical cryptographic methods can be compromised and therefore impact the security of blockchain networks. All of the ways used to secure blockchain like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA), Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit (SHA256) are the characteristic of the traditional cryptographic techniques vulnerable to attack by quantum algorithms: Shor’s and Grover’s algorithms: can efficiently break asymmetric encryption and speed up brute force attacks. Because of this vulnerability, there exists a need to develop an advance quantum resilient blockchain framework to protect the decentralized ledgers from the future threats of the quantum. This research proposes Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) as a formidable architectural integration, to fortify security of blockchain. Classical encryption is replaced with PQC, QKD with secure key exchange by detecting eavesdropping, and QRNG with improving cryptographic randomness to remove the predictable key vulnerability. Only with a small loss of transaction efficiency, we increase transaction encryption accuracy, key exchange security, and resistance to quantum attacks. In this quantum enhanced blockchain design, the idea is to preserve the decentralization, transparency and security and at the same time overcome the future quantum threat. By going through rigorous analysis and comparative evaluation, we demonstrate that the approach saves blockchain networks from the emerging quantum risks to make sure that the decentralized finance, smart contracts and cross chain transactions. © (2025), (Science and Information Organization). The aim of this research is to create an adaptive nonlinear fuzzy backstepping robust controller for a dengue disease outbreak model. We use an SIR-SI compartmental mathematical model to analyse the diffusion mechanism of dengue disease. A nonlinear adaptive controller regulates prevention strategies for susceptible human beings and enhances hospitalization-based treatment for the infected people. Besides, the spraying of chemical insecticides will reduce the infected mosquito population. Adaptation laws are used to derive fuzzy system parameters, enhancing the system's adaptability. Then we construct a suitable Lyapunov function, which guarantees convergence, robustness, and stability for a closed-loop system. Finally, we plot all the system's control variables graphically and calculate their numerical approximations using the Runge–Kutta technique of fifth order. These simulations demonstrate that the proposed adaptive controllers can effectively control the dengue disease and ensure the stability of the system. Hence, we conclude that adaptive backstepping control measures can protect more people from dengue infection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature India Private Limited 2025.

Due to the uncertain nature of drought, it is one of the most menacing natural disasters. Drought modeling (Prediction, Detection, Forecasting, and Stage Prediction) is very essential for efficient policy making. But one of the key problems with drought modeling is the limited availability of centralized datasets. To address this problem, we are a novel proposing federated learning based transfer learning models for the prediction of drought stages. In this study, satellite image dataset was collected from the Tharparkar district (prone to drought) of Pakistan. We trained the dataset using traditional and federated learning approaches, comparing centralized ML models, pre-trained models, and their respective federated learning models (FL-ResNet, FL-DenseNet, FL-MobileNet). The development of these models is the novel aspect of the study specifically for the use case of drought stage prediction. Based on the final evaluation, FL-MobileNet achieved 82% precision while baseline MobileNet scored 68%. The results show the effectiveness of novelty (federated learning), that our proposed framework improves the performance of the drought stage classification task. © The Author(s) 2025.

Temperature control is of utmost importance in transmission systems. In this paper, a binary channel model is considered in which the transmission of a one causes a temperature increase while communicating a zero causes a temperature drop. By putting constraints on the input sequences, it is guaranteed that the channel temperature will not exceed a certain pre-determined maximum. In the asymptotic regime, the capacity of such a channel is studied. For the non-asymptotic regime, fixed-length codes are presented, with the property that codewords can be freely cascaded without violating the temperature constraint. Optimization of the code size is investigated and codewords are enumerated using generating functions. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Accurate fall detection for orthopedic walker users is essential for timely medical intervention and enhancing safety for elderly and mobility-impaired individuals. This paper introduces a new method using a bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU) neural network to detect falls and classify motion patterns in walker usage. We use the Walker dataset, which includes inertial measurement unit sensor data for four motion classes: idle, motion, step, and fall. The dataset consists of 6-axis IMU readings (3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope) from sensors mounted on orthopedic walkers, with around 620 samples per class. Our BiGRU model leverages temporal dependencies in both forward and backward directions to improve classification accuracy. We assess the model's performance in two scenarios: binary classification (fall vs. non-fall) and multi-class classification of all four motion types. The proposed architecture shows strong performance, achieving 99.79% accuracy and a 99.73% F1-score in binary classification, and 98.51% accuracy and a 98.50% F1-score in multi-class classification. It outperforms traditional deep learning models like CNN, LSTM, and GRU. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of bidirectional processing in capturing temporal motion patterns, indicating significant potential for realtime fall detection in walker-assisted mobility. The high precision and recall values in both scenarios demonstrate the model's reliability for practical healthcare monitoring applications. © 2025 IEEE.

With the rise of wearable sensors and smart devices, human activity recognition (HAR) has become a vital research area in ubiquitous computing. Although many studies report high accuracy using k-fold cross-validation, these results often do not reflect actual generalization interpretation due to subject-dependent data leakage, where models test on activities from the subjects they were trained. This study compares traditional k-fold cross-validation with leave-one-subject-out (LOSO) validation using the WISDM dataset, highlighting the importance of proper validation techniques in HAR systems. We implemented and evaluated five advanced deep learning models - convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), bidirectional LSTM (BiLSTM), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and bidirectional GRU (BiGRU) - on windowed raw sensor data. Our experiments showed significant differences between validation methods. The BiGRU model achieved 97.91% accuracy with k-fold cross-validation and 98.02% with LOSO validation, while the CNN model achieved only 92.55% and 93.44%, respectively. These results underscore the impact of both model architecture and validation approach on performance. Our findings stress the need for subject-independent validation strategies like LOSO to develop truly generalizable HAR systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Emotion recognition using EEG signals has gained growing attention in recent years due to its promising applications in human-computer interaction, affective computing, and mental health assessment. This study investigates the performance of various deep learning architectures in classifying emotional states from EEG recordings. We utilize the Emotion EEG dataset as a benchmark and evaluate five prominent deep learning models. The classification task targets three emotion categories: neu-tral, positive, and negative. Experimental results reveal notable differences in model performance. Among the tested models, BiGRU achieves the highest classification accuracy of 97.70% (±0.69%), followed closely by BiLSTM with 97.37% (±0.17%). These bidirectional architectures significantly outperform the CNN model, which attains an accuracy of only 61.59% (±1.22%). The LSTM and GRU models yield intermediate results, nearing 92% accuracy. The findings highlight the effectiveness of bidirectional recurrent neural networks in modeling the temporal characteristics of EEG signals for emotion detection. This research contributes to advancing EEG-based emotion recognition by identifying the most suitable deep learning strategies, thus supporting the development of more intelligent and emotion-aware computing systems. © 2025 IEEE.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are one of the sustainable modes of transportation that can reduce the air pollution caused by fossil fuel-powered automobiles. The literature overlooks non-technical criteria, including environmental considerations and social responsibility in the EV selection process, which may navigate the adoption of EVs. This study addresses the EV selection process in the hesitant bi-fuzzy context, considering technical and non-technical EV features. A multi-criteria group decision-making approach is developed to evaluate EVs utilizing a modified hesitant bi-fuzzy COmbinative Distance-based Assessment technique. This study proposes a novel hesitant bi-fuzzy Dombi weighted average operator to integrate the decision maker’s opinions with their weightage. The proposed approach incorporates the importance of the criteria evaluated by the method based on the removal effects of criteria and hesitant information in Euclidean and Taxicab metrics to produce the ranking sequence of EVs. The Python code for the suggested group decision-making model is provided to rationalize the computational process. This study highlights the relative importance of charging time, price, and range compared to the remaining features in selecting EVs. The study’s findings indicate that the technical features of an EV are still a primary consideration for the customers. These findings will assist policymakers and EV industry stakeholders in making decisions to focus on EV modification. A comparative analysis with the existing decision-making models encompasses the applicability of the proposed technique. In contrast, the sensitivity analysis demonstrates the suggested approach’s robustness through the alteration in decision makers’ s preferences, internal parameters, and criteria importance to assess their impact on the final rankings of EVs. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Accurate estimation of calorie content in meals is essential for promoting healthy dietary practices and supporting healthcare efforts. However, the lack of nutritional knowledge poses challenges for individuals in estimating the calorie content of foods. This study aims to develop a deep learning-based model for estimating the calorie content of real foods through image classification and segmentation techniques. Image classification was employed to identify various one-dish Thai menus, while image segmentation categorized food components into fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. A new dataset, consisting of 15 one-dish Thai menus, was created using a combination of publicly available datasets (THFOOD-50 and FoodyDudy) and self-collected images. Nutritional analysis was based on the Thai nutritional table from the Bureau of Nutrition, department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. We compared the performance of YOLOv5x, YOLOv8x, and YOLOv9e on the ThaiFood dataset using identical hyperparameters. The results showed that YOLOv8x achieved the highest mAP@0.5 of 0.883, with an accuracy of 0.829 and a recall of 0.902. YOLOv5x closely followed with a mAP@0.5 of 0.881, an accuracy of 0.822, and a recall of 0.945. YOLOv9e demonstrated competitive performance, achieving a mAP@0.5 of 0.846, an accuracy of 0.775, and a recall of 0.91. These findings highlight YOLOv8x as the most suitable model for Thai food classification and detection tasks under the evaluated conditions. © 2025 IEEE.
