Hand hygiene (HH) is one of the most important activities of protection against pandemic disease in the current difficult situation around the world. To achieve this, World Health Organization (WHO) recommends frequent hand washing with soap and hand sanitization using hand sanitizers. Hand sanitizers are generally applied by squirting the sanitizer liquid by hand and it may cause to spread of viral carriers to many peoples. To reduce the spread of pandemic disease and to reduce contact with potential carriers of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites in public places, in this paper, the authors have designed an automated contactless hand sanitizer dispenser system (ACHSDS) with an infrared (IR) sensor and based on a PIC18F4550 microcontroller for use in public places, workplaces, kindergartens, schools, universities and etc. The ACHSDS can be used without touching or holding, and may decrease the risk of contamination. © 2022 ACM.

The COVID-19 emergency has exposed the fragility of many Health Care systems around the world. Two major critical factors have been related to the management of critical care accesses and the availability of healthcare operators. COVID-like diseases are generally transmitted by airborne pathogens that grant a high contagion rate and rapidity. Unfortunately, health operators and medical doctors are the designated first victims of such epidemics. Infected operators (symptomatic or not) must be put at rest due to the potential contagion risk for the patients. In the midst of global health catastrophes such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the healthcare sector is always looking for new ways to improve patient care while reducing the risk of disease transmission. This study takes an innovative approach to the integration of robotic technology in hospital settings in order to increase operational efficiency, protect healthcare personnel, and improve patient outcomes. This study digs into the strategic deployment of robotic resources, with an emphasis on their function in epidemic control and front-line caregiver assistance. We look at how these robots may do different duties, decreasing human-to-human contact and the possibility of viral transmission. We pave the road for a safer, more efficient, and resilient healthcare environment by using the potential of robots as important healthcare resources. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The following article looked into legged wheels with spring suspension. The idea behind the work was to see how adding springs in various places and their stiffness would impact the robot's ability to navigate through stairs. Due to the unconventional appearance of legged wheels, they are not suitable for even terrain passage. Hence, the idea was to add springs to minimize shock occurrence each time a leg touches the even environment. It was also important to equip springs throughout the whole path. As the robot progresses through steps, a greater disturbance of the structure occurs. Two different ideas were tested. In the first scenario, springs were attached between the holder of the wheels and the main body. In the second scenario, springs were directly added to the legs. The extruded part of the leg was divided into two, and a spring was embedded between these two parts. Different values of spring stiffness were also examined. The results illustrated that the structure would go further by implementing springs in all four wheels or in the rear. However, the structure was tested only on an upward incline. With other setups, it might be different with the rearrangement of the springs. It was also noted that with higher stiffness of the springs, the structure became unstable. In the second scenario, results illustrated the slightest progress. For instance, when the front wheels' legs were modified, they showed better results. To understand the influence in more depth, further investigation of the problem must be conducted.

MATLAB provides an effective environment for learning and applying different disciplines. control101 is a new MATLAB toolbox under development which provides tools for interactive learning of control disciplines. This paper presents the framework for teaching discrete control algorithms applied for processes containing large dead times.

Real-time surface analysis is becoming increasingly important in various fields, including industry, medicine, and transportation. This article examines the problem of remote monitoring of surface texture in real time. The authors review the methods and techniques used for this task, focusing on high-precision technologies such as computer vision, laser scanning, and image processing techniques. The paper examines the importance of this real-time approach to support accurate and rapid decisions in industrial processes and medical diagnostics. The authors propose a method for detecting texture artifacts with machine learning and analyze the performance and quality of possible variations of its application. Based on the discussion, the authors draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness and prospects of the proposed approach in real-time remote monitoring of surface textures. They emphasize the importance of further research in this direction and the use of innovative technologies to improve the accuracy and speed of the monitoring process. This paper investigates the problem of maximizing social power for a group of agents, who participate in multiple meetings described by independent Friedkin-Johnsen models. A strategic game is obtained, in which the action of each agent (or player) is her stubbornness over all the meetings, and the payoff is her social power on average. It is proved that, for all but some strategy profiles on the boundary of the feasible action set, each agent's best response is the solution of a convex optimization problem. Furthermore, even with the non-convexity on boundary profiles, if the underlying networks are given by a fixed complete graph, the game has a unique Nash equilibrium. For this case, the best response of each agent is analytically characterized, and is achieved in finite time by a proposed algorithm.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies.

Collaboration of agents in a natural swarm enables the accomplishment of tasks that would be difficult or impossible for a single agent to complete alone. For example, a swarm of autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) enables the collaborative sensing of bulky loads for transportation over impassable terrains when the load weighs several times more than each UAV. In this work, we propose a hierarchical algorithmic architecture that supports the search and coverage of various unknown payload profiles for subsequent transportation. The grasping formation of UAVs over the payload emerges from the synthetic behaviours in the architecture without any path planning. Experiments show that our proposed design can be successfully applied in searching and coverage of various loads and has been validated in the real world through the use of Crazyflie micro-UAVs. Furthermore, the proposed grasping formation satisfies static equilibrium thereby reducing orientation changes in the load-swarm system during transportation.

The article explores security and efficiency models applied in cyber-physical systems of medical devices, which are increasingly integrated into the IoT framework. It provides a detailed analysis of key threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data generated and processed by such devices, considering them as critical components of patient safety. Additionally, the article examines approaches to enhancing the efficiency of medical cyber- physical systems under constraints of limited energy consumption, low computational power, and restricted memory capacity. Solutions are proposed based on the implementation of lightweight cryptographic algorithms, such as lightweight block ciphers and digital signature algorithms, which help reduce energy consumption while ensuring a high level of security. The proposed models aim to ensure the secure processing and transmission of personal medical data, particularly in scenarios of limited network bandwidth and the need to minimize transmission delays. Moreover, the article discusses aspects of the real-time efficient operation of cyber- physical systems, which is critical for the uninterrupted and reliable functioning of medical devices. The article also includes a comparative analysis of existing protection methods and suggests new approaches to improving the overall reliability and efficiency of medical cyber-physical systems.
