Learning-guided iterated local search for the minmax multiple traveling salesman problem

The minmax multiple traveling salesman problem involves minimizing the longest tour among a set of tours. The problem is of great practical interest because it can be used to formulate several real-life applications. To solve this computationally challenging problem, we propose a leaning-driven iterated local search approach that combines an aggressive local search procedure with a probabilistic acceptance criterion to find high-quality local optimal solutions and a multi-armed bandit algorithm to select various removal and insertion operators to escape local optimal traps. Extensive experiments on 77 commonly used benchmark instances show that our algorithm achieves excellent results in terms of solution quality and running time. In particular, it achieves 32 new best-known results and matches the best-known results for 35 other instances. To minimize the disturbance of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterhead on the surrounding rock during the coal mine roadway excavation process and ensure that the cutterhead rotation speed achieves fast tracking performance with minimal overshoot, we propose a direct adaptive robust control method for the cutterhead rotation speed hydraulic system based on inversion design. This method considers the strong disturbances such as loads and motion affecting the cutterhead hydraulic drive system, as well as the uncertainties in the cutterhead model. We establish the nonlinear model of the cutterhead hydraulic drive system and employ virtual control to reduce the model order. Using Lyapunov functions, we ensure the stability of the entire system and derive the control law for the cutterhead rotation speed controller, along with parameter-adaptive laws acting as parameter estimators. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy through joint simulation using AMESim and Simulink. The results show that the designed cutterhead rotation speed controller achieves high tracking accuracy and good adaptability.

Consider a sensor network consisting of both anchor and non-anchor nodes. We address the following sensor network localization (SNL) problem: given the physical locations of anchor nodes and relative measurements among all nodes, determine the locations of all non-anchor nodes. The solution to the SNL problem is challenging due to its inherent non-convexity. In this paper, the problem takes on the form of a multi-player nonconvex potential game in which canonical duality theory is used to define a complementary dual potential function. After showing the Nash equilibrium (NE) correspondent to the SNL solution, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a stationary point to coincide with the NE. An algorithm is proposed_ to reach the NE and shown to have convergence rate O(1/√k). With the aim of reducing the information exchange within a network, a distributed algorithm for NE seeking is implemented and its global convergence analysis is provided. Extensive simulations show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed approach to solve the SNL problem. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI) as a diagnostic aid has spurred significant research into deep learning-based colorectal cancer polyp detection and localization. The motivation behind this research stems from the occasional missed diagnosis of polyps by medical experts due to fatigue or inexperience, which can lead to serious complications like colorectal cancer. In this research, we explore the effect on the accuracy of polyp detection and localization, employing variants of the state-of-the-art detection model YOLOv9. Four variants of YOLOv9 (gelan-e, gelan-c, yolov9-c, and yolov9-e) are trained on two datasets: CVC-CLinicDB and Kvasir combined as one dataset and LDPolyp Video as the second separate dataset. Results show that the YOLOv9 variants show their superiority when evaluated on five test datasets as compared to YOLOv8, the most recent YOLO series model.

This paper is devoted to a cycle of laboratory works on the control theory course for students of MPEI. This course was developed for the bachelor students of Institute of Thermal and Nuclear Power engineering studying on the educational program Automation of technological processes in thermal power engineering, so dynamical characteristics of plants and processes under consideration are typical for thermal ones, for example, surface heat exchangers. The cycle consists of five laboratory works which may be carried out in Matlab/Simulilnk or Scilab/Xcos. Short descriptions of the laboratory works are given, the purpose of each of them, the skills and knowledge being improved, developed or obtained through each laboratory works are specified. The paper also describes how the laboratory works are connected with other aspects of the control theory course and with other bachelor and master courses and how the results obtained by the students may be further used. In order to make the classes more interesting and useful for all students, some variants of varying laboratory works are described. Advantages of using Scilab/Xcos for these laboratory works are given. © 2020 IEEE.

As China's steel production accounts for an increasing share of the world's output, the intelligent transformation of the steel industry is becoming increasingly urgent. To address issues such as low levels of mobile informationization in steel enterprises and the lack of an industry-specific mobile application platform, it is of great significance to establish a shared mobile application platform for the steel industry. In this paper, the requirements of the platform were analyzed, and the platform's functions were designed. The software design of the platform was then carried out, and the entire mobile application sharing platform was developed, effectively improving the production management efficiency of steel enterprises. The results indicate that the platform can effectively meet the needs of steel enterprises and has significant engineering significance. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

The performance of Interline DC Power Flow controllers (IDC-PFCs) in Voltage Source Converters (VSC)-based High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grids, can be affected due to different issues. The current limitation of HVDC lines, the voltage limitation of HVDC buses, and DC voltage of the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor prevent effective and efficient operation of IDC-PFCs. In this paper, it is shown that this issue can be overcome by using a virtual capacitor in parallel with the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor. Also, an energy control-based scheme is proposed for the operation of IDC-PFCs in VSC-HVDC grid. The benefits of using the virtual capacitor are: widening the operational area of the IDC-PFCs for the determined duty cycle and injecting more voltage in series to the interconnected HVDC line to control the related HVDC line current. The proposed solution is successfully evaluated on a CIGRE three-terminal VSC-HVDC grid which is modeled by linearized space-state equations.

This paper introduces a consensus-based generalized multi-population aggregative game coordination approach with application to electric vehicles charging under transmission line constraints. The algorithm enables agents to seek an equilibrium solution while considering the limited infrastructure capacities that impose coupling constraints among the users. The Nash-seeking algorithm consists of two interrelated iterations. In the upper layer, population coordinators collaborate for a distributed estimation of the coupling aggregate term in the agents’ cost function and the associated Lagrange multiplier of the coupling constraint, transmitting the latest updated values to their population’s agents. In the lower layer, each agent updates its best response based on the most recent information received and communicates it back to its population coordinator. For the case when the agents’ best response mappings are non-expansive, we prove the algorithm’s convergence to the generalized Nash equilibrium point of the game. Simulation results demonstrate the algorithm’s effectiveness in achieving equilibrium in the presence of a coupling constraint. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

We consider distributionally robust optimal control of stochastic linear systems under signal temporal logic (STL) chance constraints when the disturbance distribution is unknown. By assuming that the underlying predicate functions are Lipschitz continuous and the noise realizations are drawn from a distribution having a concentration of measure property, we first formulate the underlying chance-constrained control problem as stochastic programming with constraints on expectations and propose a solution using a distributionally robust approach based on the Wasserstein metric. We show that by choosing a proper Wasserstein radius, the original chance-constrained optimization can be satisfied with a user-defined confidence level.
