The aim of the study is to develop a method for storing images of sulfur imprints. In the framework of the study, a more effective method of representing images of sulfur imprints by using knowledge of the specificity of these images was developed compared to universal methods. In particular, a method for storing images of sulfur imprints has been developed, which stores information about objects that are significant for technological analysis in the image. The developed method was tested for images of sulfur imprints of continuously cast billets for the conditions of a large metallurgical enterprise in Russia. To conduct a computational experiment, a software product was designed and developed that allows you to convert the image of a sulfur imprint into a mathematical representation, as well as the process of restoring the main image. Using the array of retrospective information of 2011-2018 and the developed software product, the calculation of the effectiveness of the presentation of graphic information in the form of a structural unit of information without directly saving the image was performed. The average share of stored information from the original volume is 0.53 percent © 2020 IEEE.

The proposed hand gesture recognition (HGR) system is designed to enhance human-computer interaction (HCI) and human-robot interaction (HRI), which are crucial areas of research aimed at improving the way humans interact with computer or robot systems. With the growing need for intelligent computers and robots in a range of applications, including healthcare, manufacturing, and education, both HCI and HRI have gained significant importance. In this context, the HGR system plays a vital role by enabling natural and intuitive communication between humans and technology through hand gestures. The presented system uses a single camera and efficient image processing techniques that enable real-time gesture detection. Unlike other methods, our approach employs a basic video camera, which is widely available on most computers, eliminating the need for expensive and specialized hardware. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data on 1,000 people from China who were tracked over an average period of six years. The participants were divided into two groups: those who lived in areas with high levels of air pollution and those who lived in areas with low levels of air pollution. The study analyzed data on patients with lung cancer, including their age, gender, exposure to air pollution, alcohol consumption, dust allergy, occupational hazards, genetic risk, chronic lung disease, balanced diet, obesity, smoking, passive smoking, chest pain, cough, hemoptysis, fatigue, weight loss, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, nail thickening and snoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Finding Nash equilibria in non-cooperative games can be, in general, an exceptionally challenging task. This is owed to various factors, including but not limited to the cost functions of the game being nonconvex/nonconcave, the players of the game having limited information about one another, or even due to issues of computational complexity. The present tutorial draws motivation from this harsh reality and provides methods to approximate Nash or min-max equilibria in non-ideal settings using both optimization- and learning-based techniques. The tutorial acknowledges, however, that such techniques may not always converge, but instead lead to oscillations or even chaos. In that respect, tools from passivity and dissipativity theory are provided, which can offer explanations about these divergent behaviors. Finally, the tutorial highlights that, more frequently than often thought, the search for equilibrium policies is simply vain; instead, bounded rationality and non-equilibrium policies can be more realistic to employ owing to some players’ learning imperfectly or being relatively naive – "bounded rational." The efficacy of such plays is demonstrated in the context of autonomous driving systems, where it is explicitly shown that they can guarantee vehicle safety.

A cost-effective IoT-based real-time data acquisition and analysis hardware system was developed to enhance the performance of the mobile harbor cranes using a combination of a cost-effective quality control monitoring sensor dashboard (proximity sensors, angle position sensor, weight sensor, vibration sensor, and wind sensor), embedded microcontroller (Arduino), and embedded computer (Raspberry Pi). Hardware was operated using a specially developed novel Quality control and Data Acquisition Multiprocessing software (QC-DAS). The QC-DAS can automatically collect and save real-time data of the sensors in a large-capacity SD card, monitor the state of health of the hardware, and transmit the real-time data of the sensors and the working state of the crane to an IoT server. The novelty of the QC-DAS design is that each function is encapsulated in a predefined module that is “immersed” in a message transmission medium. Modules interact by sending and receiving various signals through this medium. Modularity makes system design simpler, faster, and flexible. Thanks to modularity, users may incorporate their data processing modules when new sensors are added to match the system's needs. Thanks to modularity the DC-DAS can operate quality control hardware for any mobile cranes. There are several constraints in the quality control data acquisition system used by the Damietta Port Authority in Damietta, Egypt, SESCO TRANS company which cause the loading and unloading process to be slowed down. As a result, the SESCO TRANS company upgraded its quality control data acquisition system using the QC-DAS. The hardware was deployed for six months, during which the collected data was used to verify the crane's performance. This paper presents an analysis of a data set to determine the factors influencing airline passenger satisfaction. The study examines various criteria such as gender, customer type, age, travel type, class, and range to assess their impact on passenger satisfaction. The dataset consists of 25 columns, including attributes like Wi-Fi availability, convenience of online booking, seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, baggage handling, and overall satisfaction. The sample is relatively balanced, with equal representation of men and women, predominantly repeat customers, and a majority flying for business purposes. Key findings include a strong correlation between departure and arrival delays, higher satisfaction among passengers in business class, and positive ratings for Wi-Fi service correlating with overall satisfaction. Correlation analysis reveals interdependencies between different attributes, such as the influence of cleanliness on seat comfort and food and beverage ratings. In addition, a neural network forecasting model is used to estimate the average ratings of passengers, although with low accuracy, which was later excluded. Finally, a decision tree algorithm is utilized to identify the most significant attributes affecting passenger satisfaction words. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

One way to increase solar photovoltaic penetration in the grid is management of voltage fluctuations. This is because a photovoltaic plant cannot be interconnected to the grid if it causes voltage violations. Voltage violation is where voltage exceeds the acceptable range. Often, grid operators request photovoltaic plant owners to regulate voltage sufficiently with expensive and space-consuming static Var compensators. Unfortunately, this sometimes makes the project less feasible. This paper argues that there are better ways to regulate voltage. We ran a simulation with a 70 MWp photovoltaic plant as an addition to the grid. Without voltage regulation, voltage violations were found to be significant. This paper found that oversizing the inverter sufficiently would remove all voltage violations without deploying a static Var compensator. This is often a cheaper and space-saving solution for voltage management. This paper argues that economics and spatial efficiency of reactive power compensation devices is key to increasing photovoltaic penetration.

Research in Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots navigation has demonstrated some success in navigating flat indoor environments while avoiding obstacles. But in common resilience to unsafe conditions, unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and autonomous mobile robots have wide applications in security reconnaissance, investigation of an obscure domain, and crisis reaction. Various examinations have been directed on the driving mechanism, motion planning, and trajectory tracking strategies for robots, yet restricted investigations have been led with respect to the obstacle detection and avoiding ability of robots. However, for little scale robots that contain sensitive surveillance sensors and can't afford to utilize heavy defensive shells, the nonappearance of obstacle avoidance solutions arrangements would leave the robot helpless before possibly risky hindrances. In this paper, we present an algorithm for obstacle detection and avoidance system has been developed for miniature Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and autonomous mobile robots. We show an investigation differentiating heading build rules and relative course directions dodging distinctive operators in multi-specialist conditions, estimating separation between the two robots. The integration of distance measurement and avoiding other robots or obstacles is our observation in a multi-robot environment, where obstacles are also available. In this paper, we have discussed two algorithms, one will try to avoid other robot or obstacles and another will try to measure the distance between main agents to another agent. It utilizes an algorithm so that the system is both compact and power efficient. The proposed system can detect not only the presence, but also the approaching direction of a ferromagnetic obstacle. Therefore, an intelligent avoidance behavior can be generated by adapting the trajectory tracking method with the detection information. Design optimization is conducted to enhance

In this paper we consider the problems of leaderless consensus for networks of fully actuated Euler-Lagrange agents perturbed by unknown additive disturbances. The network is an undirected weighted graph with time delays. The proposed controller has a PD structure that incorporates, in a certainty-equivalent way, the estimate of the unknown disturbance. The design of the disturbance estimator proceeds along the following steps. First, the derivation of a regression equation, that turns out to be nonlinearly parameterized, but with an injective mapping. Second, we propose to use a recently introduced least-squares plus dynamic regressor extension algorithm that allows us to estimate the unknown frequencies imposing extremely weak excitation assumptions. In this way, we derive a sufficient condition on the proportional and derivative gains of the controller to ensure that the systems globally and asymptotically converge to a consensus position.

Nonlinear model predictive control (MPC) and reinforcement learning (RL) are two powerful control strategies with, arguably, complementary advantages. In this work, we show how actor-critic RL techniques can be leveraged to improve the performance of MPC. The RL critic is used as an approximation of the optimal value function, and an actor roll-out provides an initial guess for primal variables of the MPC. A parallel control architecture is proposed where each MPC instance is solved twice for different initial guesses. Besides the actor roll-out initialization, a shifted initialization from the previous solution is used. Thereafter, the actor and the critic are again used to approximately evaluate the infinite horizon cost of these trajectories. The control actions from the lowest-cost trajectory are applied to the system at each time step. We establish that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to outperform the original RL policy plus an error term that depends on the accuracy of the critic and decays with the horizon length of the MPC formulation. Moreover, we do not require globally optimal solutions for these guarantees to hold.
