In recent years, online social networks and online news venues have become some of the main news and event-related information spreading mediums. Although using these mediums has facilitated the speed of accessing information, it also created a new phenomenon used for propaganda and disinformation: fake news. As fake news has detrimental consequences to society, new technologies need to be developed in order to stop their harmful effects. In this paper, we propose two Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) architectures with sentence transformers to solve two tasks: (1) a multi-class mono-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., mono-lingual task);and (2) a multi-class cross-lingual fake news detection task (i.e., cross-lingual task). For the mono-lingual task, we train and test a BiLSTM with BART sentence transformers model on an English dataset and obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.53 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.32. For the cross-lingual task, we train a BiLSTM with XLM sentence transformers model on an English dataset and test the model using transfer learning on a German dataset. For this task, we obtain an accuracy of ∼ 0.28 and an F1-Score of ∼ 0.19. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

We consider the synthesis problem of a multi-agent system under signal temporal logic (STL) specifications representing bounded-time tasks that need to be satisfied recurrently over an infinite horizon. Motivated by the limited approaches to handling recurring STL systematically, we tackle the infinite-horizon control problem with a receding horizon scheme equipped with additional STL constraints that introduce minimal complexity and a backward-reachability-based terminal condition that is straightforward to construct and ensures recursive feasibility. Subsequently, we decompose the global receding horizon optimization problem into agent-level programs the objectives of which are to minimize local cost functions subject to local and joint STL constraints. We propose a scheduling policy that allows individual agents to sequentially optimize their control actions while maintaining recursive feasibility. This results in a distributed strategy that can operate online as a model predictive controller. A multi-modal emotion recognition method based on facial multi-scale features and cross-modal attention (MS-FCA) network is proposed. The MSFCA model improves the traditional single-branch ViT network into a two-branch ViT architecture by using classification tokens in each branch to interact with picture embeddings in the other branch, which facilitates effective interactions between different scales of information. Subsequently, audio features are extracted using ResNet18 network. The cross-modal attention mechanism is used to obtain the weight matrices between different modal features, making full use of inter-modal correlation and effectively fusing visual and audio features for more accurate emotion recognition. Two datasets are used for the experiments: eNTERFACE'05 and REDVESS dataset. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the proposed method on the eNTERFACE'05 and REDVESS datasets is 85.42% and 83.84% respectively, which proves the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 IEEE.

The proposed approach for pose estimation is based on the construction of a Convolutional Neural Network with an encoding-decoding structure and a spatial pyramid based on WASP structure in its bottleneck and a Discrete wavelet transform encoder. These techniques already shown their capabilities to solve the main problems in state of the art related to: different Field of view (FoV) required to analyze the different possible sizes of a specific subject. we want to solve the faulty structure of the modern CNN based Neural Networks in the encoding part using DWT encoder and WASP. This Work also have the objective of demonstrating from a more general point of view which could be the advantages of a Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) encoder in any CNN-based approach for Pose Estimation and Object detection in any form, such as for several subjects in the same image or in the internal video due to the almost redundant use of the usual most famous encoding structures for CNN such as ResNet-101, U-Net or VGG16-19. we will do our tests using a U-net Based CNN in order to evaluate the importance of the results of the Discrete Wavelet Transform encoder also in the decoding part through the cropping of theme at the last layers of the network. This is necessary due to the loss of border's pixels during encoding that could be useful for the result's evaluation. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of wearing face masks as a preventive measure to reduce the spread of the virus. In medical settings, such as hospitals and clinics, healthcare professionals and patients are required to wear surgical masks for infection control. However, the use of masks can hinder facial recognition technology, which is commonly used for identity verification and security purposes. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network (CNN) based approach to detect faces covered by surgical masks in medical settings. We evaluated the proposed CNN model on a test set comprising of masked and unmasked faces. The results showed that our model achieved an accuracy of over 96% in detecting masked faces. Furthermore, our model demonstrated robustness to different mask types and fit variations commonly encountered in medical settings. Our approaches reaches state of the art results in terms of accuracy and generalization. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

Drug repurposing, also known as drug repositioning, is the process of identifying novel therapeutic indications for existing drugs, offering a cost-effective and time-efficient strategy to drug discovery. In this context, we developed a network-based algorithm, named SAveRUNNER (Searching off-lAbel dRUg aNd NEtwoRk), which predicts drug-disease associations by accounting for the interaction between the drug targets and disease-associated genes in the human interactome, implementing a novel network-based similarity measure that prioritizes associations between drugs and diseases locating in the same network neighborhoods. Following its successful applications to different disorders (such as viral infections and neurological diseases), in this study, we applied SAveRUNNER on a panel of 13 types of cancers using both disease-associated genes downloaded from widely-used databases and from gene expression data.

Finite Neural Networks as Mixtures of Gaussian Processes: From Provable Error Bounds to Prior Selection

Infinitely wide or deep neural networks (NNs) with independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) parameters have been shown to be equivalent to Gaussian processes. Because of the favorable properties of Gaussian processes, this equivalence is commonly employed to analyze neural networks and has led to various breakthroughs over the years. However, neural networks and Gaussian processes are equivalent only in the limit;in the finite case there are currently no methods available to approximate a trained neural network with a Gaussian model with bounds on the approximation error. In this work, we present an algorithmic framework to approximate a neural network of finite width and depth, and with not necessarily i.i.d. parameters, with a mixture of Gaussian processes with error bounds on the approximation error. In particular, we consider the Wasserstein distance to quantify the closeness between probabilistic models and, by relying on tools from optimal transport and Gaussian processes, we iteratively approximate the output distribution of each layer of the neural network as a mixture of Gaussian processes. Crucially, for any NN and ǫ > 0 our approach is able to return a mixture of Gaussian processes that is ǫ-close to the NN at a finite set of input points. Furthermore, we rely on the differentiability of the resulting error bound to show how our approach can be employed to tune the parameters of a NN to mimic the functional behavior of a given Gaussian process, e.g., for prior selection in the context of Bayesian inference. We empirically investigate the effectiveness of our results on both regression and classification problems with various neural network architectures. Rapid grows and expansion smart systems application, wide use data transmission networks require cryptographic protection of such data. Graph model of nonlinear neuro-like data encryption algorithm has been developed. This model provides a transition to the structure of hardware to process data of different intensity. The structure of the hardware for implementation basic operation of nonlinear neuro-like encryption is focused on FPGA. The method of implementing multi-input summation has been improved, which, due to the complex use of vertical and multi-operand approaches, ensured a time reduction of summation of a group of operands.

Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drives have gained considerable interest in those applications requiring high levels of reliability. However, they often suffer from high-order harmonic currents and mismatch of motor parameters, resulting in degraded performance and reduced efficiency. Therefore, this paper proposes a dual-mode disturbance observer based model predictive current controller. Not only direct current disturbances caused by motor parameters, but also alternating current disturbances caused by high-order harmonic currents are explicitly modeled and estimated to achieve improved model accuracy. In addition, the observer parameter design is given in detail. Furthermore, a generalized predictive current controller with the integration of the proposed observer is developed to provide satisfactory harmonic current suppression capability and parameter robustness simultaneously. Proof of the stability with the proposed controller is given and several experiments and comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

Humans have the ability to deviate from their natural behavior when necessary, which is a cognitive process called response inhibition. Similar approaches have independently received increasing attention in recent years for ensuring the safety of control. Realized using control barrier functions or predictive safety filters, these approaches can effectively ensure the satisfaction of state constraints through an online adaptation of nominal control laws, e.g., obtained through reinforcement learning. While the focus of these realizations of inhibitory control has been on risk-neutral formulations, human studies have shown a tight link between response inhibition and risk attitude. Inspired by this insight, we propose a flexible, risk-sensitive method for inhibitory control. Our method is based on a risk-aware condition for value functions, which guarantees the satisfaction of state constraints. We propose a method for learning these value functions using common techniques from reinforcement learning and derive sufficient conditions for its success. By enforcing the derived safety conditions online using the learned value function, risk-sensitive inhibitory control is effectively achieved. The effectiveness of the developed control scheme is demonstrated in simulations. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
