This article reviews authors’ recently developed algorithm for identification of nonlinear state-space models under missing observations and extends it to the case of unknown model structure. In order to estimate the parameters in a state-space model, one needs to know the model structure and have an estimate of states. If the model structure is unknown, an approximation of it is obtained using radial basis functions centered around a maximum a posteriori estimate of the state trajectory. A particle filter approximation of smoothed states is then used in conjunction with expectation maximization algorithm for estimating the parameters. The proposed approach is illustrated through a real application.

The paper described a structure of three modules diagnosis system for detecting and identifying faults that occur in the sensor and actuator of control systems with input and output signals related to the component itself. The diagnosis algorithm consists of three steps; firstly, generalized morphological filter with multi-structure elements is designed to filter the random noise and impulse noise in sensor's and actuator's input and output signals. And secondly, wavelet transform, which has been proposed for sensor's fault diagnosis some years ago, is developed for control system (sensor and actuator). To effectively extract the abruptly fault characteristic, a wavelet transform was used to analyze the filtered signals in this paper. By the multi resolution analyzing (MRA), the faults can be detected accurately. Thirdly, according to calculating the Lipschitz exponent (LE) at the fault's point, the fault type can be identified. The super-heated temperature control system has been studied. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by the means of experimental results and simulations.

An analysis of the effect of parasitics and reverse recovery on harmonic distortion in a class D audio amplifier is performed in this paper. The error sources under investigation are modelled empirically as an amplitude error, after which an existing strategy based on Newton's numerical method is implemented to simulate its effect within the audible band. The results are compared to existing timing errors to determine its degree of dominance.

In this paper, control of parallel single-phase inverters in direct-quadrature(DQ) rotating frame based on droop method is proposed. For each inverter, a secondary orthogonal imaginary circuit is created to provide the second phase required for the transformation; thus a DQ model of the inverter is obtained. The DQ transformation provides a time-invariant model of the inverter which makes the control design similar to that of dc-dc converters. The recognition of this analogy is important in that all of advanced dc-dc converters control techniques that have been previously developed can be applied to the control parallel inverters. The controller then is designed in DQ frame. Theoretically, infinite loop gain can be achieved in DQ rotating frame resulting in the elimination of the steady state error at the fundamental frequency of the inverter. The output impedance of the inverters is also considered, to ensure the decoupling between active and reactive power control using droop method. Simulation results are provided to prove the concept.

This paper proposes a swinging-up and stabilization method for inverted pendulums based on a pendulum oscillation model. A normalized oscillation model is derived by using only one model parameter, i.e., the natural frequency of a pendulum. As a control strategy, energy-based control with a normalized energy model is utilized for the swinging-up from the pendant position. For the stabilization of the pendulum at the upright position, variable structure system (VSS) type adaptive control is designed through the linearized oscillation model. Validity of the proposed method has been confirmed by simulation of an inverted pendulum on a cart. Swinging-up and stabilization control was realized by using only the natural frequency of the pendulum, and the proposed method was also confirmed to be robust against parameter perturbation for the natural frequency. Stability of the designed controller was proven for a given condition that angular velocity of the pendulum has an upper bound.

Spectral analysis of acquired by a broadband transducer acoustic emission signals is proposed as a diagnostic tool for estimation of aging properties of mineral insulating oils. The article describes the main parts of the designed and built measurement apparatus used for acoustic cavitation investigation in insulating oils. The paper presents streaming current distributions measured in an overflow system in both laminar and turbulent conditions. These distributions were taken using a shifting spherical electrode connected with electrometer. For lower values of Reynolds number the profile of current is parabolic. For higher values of Reynolds number the profile is flattened. In this paper also charge density distributions were determined in both cases. In the turbulent regime the volume charge density is distributed in the pipe more evenly compared with the laminar regime.

This paper proposes a robust algorithm for detecting interest points based on the NonsubSampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT). The NSCT provides multiscale decomposition with directional filters at each scale. Furthermore, NSCT is very efficient in extracting the geometric information of images and therefore it has very good feature localization. The NSCT-based point detector is compared to the widely used Harris and Difference of Gaussian (DoG) interest point detectors. The experimental results reveal the robustness of the proposed algorithm to rotation, scale and viewpoint changes.
