Differential linear repetitive processes are characterized by a series of sweeps, or passes, through a set of dynamics defined over a finite interval or duration with interaction between successive passes. They are distinct from other classes of 2D continuous-discrete linear systems due to the fact that information propagation in one of the two separate directions only occurs over a finite duration. Moreover, this is an intrinsic feature of the underlying dynamics as opposed to an assumption introduced for analysis purposes. This paper shows that the structure of the initial conditions at the start of each new pass of the process is critical to its stability properties.

In this paper a new class of filters designed for the removal of impulsive noise in color images is presented. The proposed filter class is based on the nonparametric estimation of the density probability function of pixels in a sliding filtering window. The comparison of the new filtering method with the standard techniques used for impulsive noise removal, indicates good noise removal capabilities and excellent structure preserving properties.

An integrated approach to control of quantity and quality in water supply and distribution systems is proposed. The integrated control consists in optimising the operational cost, meeting a demand on water of desired quality and maintaining the system constraints. This constrained optimising control problem is complex due to nonlinearities, large dimension, output constraints, mixed-integer structure of the variables involved, at least two time scales in the system dynamics and an uncertainty. A sub-optimal two-level hierarchical control structure is proposed that allows incorporating the desired controller functions and yet making the synthesis of these functions possible. The algorithms for implementing the functionalities are proposed and discussed. Detail design of the lower level controller is presented and investigated. This paper introduces the basic idea and provides the mathematical formulation of the delayed feedback control (DFC) methodology, which has been widely used in chaos control. Stability analysis including the well-known odd number linfitation of the DFC is reviewed. Some new developments in characterizing the limitation of the DFC are presented. Various modified DFC methods, which are developed in order to overcome the odd number limitation, are also described. Finally, some open problems in this research field are discussed.

Iterative learning control has the potential to significantly improve the tracking performance of repeating trajectory control systems. However, until now little attempt has been made to measure this performance quantitatively. A new iterative learning control performance index PI N is introduced which allows direct, quantitative, performance comparison of different algorithms, or alternatively a single algorithm which has variable tuning parameters. In particular, PI N can be used as a tool for selecting and adjusting algorithm tuning parameters.
