In this paper, a method for the parallel operation of inverters in an ac-distributed system is proposed. The paper explores the control of active and reactive power flow through the analysis of the output impedance of the inverters and its impact on the power sharing. As a result, adaptive virtual output impedance is proposed in order to achieve a proper reactive power sharing regardless of the line impedance unbalances. A soft-start operation is also included, avoiding the initial current peak, which results in a seamless hot-swap operation. Active power sharing is achieved by adjusting the frequency in load transient situations only, thanks to which the proposed method obtains constant steady-state frequency and amplitude. As opposed to the conventional droop method, the transient response can be modified by acting on the main control parameters. Linear and nonlinear loads can be properly shared due to the addition of a current harmonic loop in the control strategy. Experimental results are presented from a two 6-kVA parallel-connected inverters system, showing the feasibility of the proposed approach. © 2005 IEEE.

Repetitive processes are a distinct class of 2D systems (i.e. information propagation in two independent directions) of both systems theoretic and applications interest. They cannot be controlled by direct extension of existing techniques from either standard (termed 1D here) or 2D systems theory. Here we give further results on the relatively open problem of the design of control laws to achieve desired performance and disturbance decoupling in the sense defined in the body of the paper. The control laws are activated only by the process output and do not require access to state information.

This paper is concerned with improvement of the KDI-based fault detection method so far developed by authors for nonlinear black-box systems. When modeling the system, Quasi-ARMAX model with multi-model structure is used. A fault due to unexpected change in system parameters will appear as the change of identified model. Kullback discrimination Information (KDI) can then be used as the fault detection index to evaluate the distortion in identified model. Several schemes to improve the fault detection performance are proposed, as well as the realization of a kind of fault isolation function based on a recognition approach in the model parameter space. The effectiveness of the method is verified through simulation studies on the ship propulsion system constructed for benchmark test.

Repetitive processes are a distinct class of two-dimensional (2D) systems (i.e. information propagation in two independent directions occurs) of both systems theoretic and applications interest. They cannot be controlled by direct extension of existing techniques from either standard (termed 1D here) or (most often) 2D systems theory. In this paper we define a new model for these processes necessary to represent dynamics which arise in some applications areas and which are not included in the currently used models. Then we proceed to define quadratic stability for this case, obtain conditions for its existence, and also solve the problem of designing a control law to stabilize the process dynamics (including the case when there is uncertainty associated with the defining state space model)

Norm-optimal iterative learning control has potential to significantly increase the accuracy of many trajectory tracking tasks which can be found in industry. The algorithm can achieve very low levels of tracking error and the number of iterations required to reach minimal error is small compared to many other iterative learning control algorithms. However, in the current format, the algorithm is not attractive to industry because it requires a large number of calculations to be performed at each sample instant. This implies that control hardware must be very fast which is expensive, or that the sample frequency must be reduced which can result in reduced performance. To remedy these problems, a revised version, fast norm-optimal iterative learning control is proposed which is significantly simpler and faster to implement. The new version is tested both in simulation and in practice on a three axis industrial gantry robot.

In this paper, a novel wireless load-sharing controller for parallel connected UPS inverters is proposed. As opposed to the conventional droop method, the proposed method achieves stable steady-state frequency and amplitude. The paper explorers the output impedance of the UPS inverters, and adaptive virtual output impedance is proposed in order to reduce its line impedance impact. Experimental results are presented from two 6 kVA UPS inverters controlled by TMS320LF2407A DSP boards, showing the feasibility of the proposed approach
