A disk I/O optimized system for concurrent graph processing jobs

In order to analyze and process the large graphs with high cost efficiency,researchers have developed a number of out-of-core graph processing systems in recent years based on just one commodity *** the other hand,with the rapidly growing need of analyzing graphs in the real-world,graph processing systems have to efficiently handle massive concurrent graph processing(CGP)***,due to the inherent design for single graph processing job,existing out-of-core graph processing systems usually incur unnecessary data accesses and severe competition of I/O bandwidth when handling the CGP *** this paper,we propose GraphCP,a disk I/O optimized out-of-core graph processing system that efficiently supports the processing of CGP *** proposes a benefit-aware sharing execution model to share the I/O access and processing of graph data among the CGP jobs and adaptively schedule the graph data loading based on the states of vertices,which efficiently overcomes above challenges faced by existing out-of-core graph processing ***,GraphCP adopts a dependency-based future-vertex updating model so as to reduce disk I/Os in the future *** addition,GraphCP organizes the graph data with a Source-Sorted Sub-Block graph representation for better processing capacity and I/O access *** evaluation results show that GraphCP is 20.5×and 8.9×faster than two out-of-core graph processing systems GridGraph and GraphZ,and 3.5×and 1.7×faster than two state-of-art concurrent graph processing systems Seraph and GraphSO.

Point clouds from real-world scenarios inevitably contain complex noise, significantly impairing the accuracy of downstream tasks. To tackle this challenge, cascading encoder-decoder architecture has become a conventional technical route to iterative denoise. However, circularly feeding the output of denoiser as its input again involves the re-extraction of underlying surface, leading to unstable denoising process and over-smoothed geometric details. To address these issues, we propose a novel denoising paradigm dubbed PD-Refiner that employs a single encoder to model the underlying surface. Then, we leverage several lightweight hierarchical Underlying Surface Inheritance Refiners (USIRs) to inherit and strengthen it, thereby avoiding the re-extraction from the intermediate point cloud. Furthermore, we design adaptive edge-aware supervision to improve the edge awareness of the USIRs, allowing for the adjustment of the denoising preferences from global structure to local details. The results demonstrate that our method not only achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of denoising stability and efficacy, but also enhances edge clarity and point cloud uniformity. © 2024 ACM.

Concurrent B+trees have been widely used in many systems. With the scale of data requests increasing exponentially, the systems are facing tremendous performance pressure. GPU has shown its potential to accelerate concurrent B+trees performance. When many concurrent requests are processed, the conflicts should be detected and resolved. Prior methods guarantee the correctness of concurrent GPU B+trees through lock-based or software transactional memory (STM)-based approaches. However, these methods complicate the request processing logic, increase the number of memory accesses and bring execution path divergence. They lead to performance degradation and variance in response time increasing. Moreover, previous methods do not guarantee linearizability among concurrent requests. In this paper, we design a combined-based concurrency control framework, called Eirene, for GPU B+tree to reduce the overhead of conflict detection and resolution. First, a combining-based synchronization method is designed to combine and issue requests. It combines the requests with the same key, constructs their dependence, decides the issued request, and determines their return values. Since only one request for each key is issued, key conflicts are eliminated. Then, an optimistic STM method is used to reduce structure conflicts. The query and the update requests are partitioned into different kernels. For the update kernels, STM is involved only when the number of the retry reaches a threshold. Finally, a locality-aware warp reorganization optimization is proposed to improve memory behavior and reduce conflicts by exploiting the locality among requests. Evaluations on an NVIDIA A100 GPU show that Eirene is efficient (a throughput of 2.4 billion per second) and can guarantee linearizability. Compared to the state-of-the-art GPU B+tree, it can achieve a speedup of 7.43X and reduce the response time variance from 36% to 5%. © 2023 ACM.

Tree based models for classification of membrane and secreted proteins in heart

Computational differentiation of membrane and secreted proteins is one of the challenging and interesting topics in bioinformatics. It is a laborious as well as time-consuming task to experimentally differentiate between membrane and secreted proteins. In this study, we used tree-based classifiers such as decision trees, random forest, light gradient boosting machine, gradient boosting decision tree and extreme gradient boosting trees using sequence-based descriptors, viz. amino acid composition, dipeptide composition, conjoint triads, composition/transition/distribution and pseudo amino acid composition in the prediction scheme to enhance the predictive power of algorithms. RF on CTD was able to better discriminate the classes in the classification problems secreted versus non-secreted and secreted versus membrane proteins while in membrane versus non-membrane. Feature selection using mutual information considerably increased the prediction accuracy of the models. Multiclass models to distinguish membrane protein and secreted proteins from other proteins in the heart were enhanced by the addition of protein interaction network-based features, with highest accuracy being displayed by XgBoost. It is expected that the models developed using tree-based algorithms will be useful for classification and annotation proteins with known sequences.

We introduce a novel framework for analyzing reinforcement learning (RL) in continuous state-action spaces, and use it to prove fast rates of convergence in both off-line and on-line settings. Our analysis highlights two key stability properties, relating to how changes in value functions and/or policies affect the Bellman operator and occupation measures. We argue that these properties are satisfied in many continuous state-action Markov decision processes. Our analysis also offers fresh perspectives on the roles of pessimism and optimism in off-line and on-line RL. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

Present natural lives shows rising attention in various applications of the wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Significant applications are isolated and stiff regions where human involvement is hazardous or unfeasible. Some examples are space investigation, battlefield observation, costal, and edge security;nowadays, such networks are needful in several manufacturing and customer applications. A WSN is a device system, indicated as nodes;these nodes intellect the atmosphere and transfer the details collected from the ground through a wireless connection. Statistics are sent, probably via many hops, to a target that can use it nearby or is linked to various networks using the gateway. The sensor nodes might be stationary or changeable. Every node has clear data about the neighborhood or not. Communication over WSN over ecological hazards is a key issue. These constraints might impact the performance of the sensors/direction finding protocols and resource utilization;thus, they may show the way to the node crash situation, i.e., software/hardware breakdown, safety threats, extreme power utilization, etc. It is essential to examine the collision of breakdown over system performance. In the projected method, relay nodes are used as secure nodes for the positioned sensor nodes. The projected method is separated into two phases: the intra segregation stage and inter segregation stage. In the intra segregation stage, the unnecessary nodes reach nearer to the segregation border, and dispersion slowly enlarges the coverage. The projected model is examined through simulations and compares the results with existing methods. © 2021

The millimeter wave (mmWave) radar sensing-aided communications in vehicular mobile communication systems is investigated. To alleviate the beam training overhead under high mobility scenarios, a successive pose estimation and beam tracking (SPEBT) scheme is proposed to facilitate mmWave communications with the assistance of mmWave radar sensing. The proposed SPEBT scheme first resorts to a Fast Conservative Filtering for Efficient and Accurate Radar odometry (Fast-CFEAR) approach to estimate the vehicle pose consisting of 2-dimensional position and yaw from radar point clouds collected by mmWave radar sensor. Then, the pose estimation information is fed into an extend Kalman filter to perform beam tracking for the line-of-sight channel. Owing to the intrinsic robustness of mmWave radar sensing, the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of operating reliably under extreme weather/illumination conditions and large-scale global navigation satellite systems (GNSS)-denied environments. The practical deployment of the SPEBT scheme is verified through rigorous testing on a real-world sensing dataset. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SPEBT scheme is capable of providing precise pose estimation information and accurate beam tracking output, while reducing the proportion of beam training overhead to less than 5% averagely. © 2023 IEEE.

Compared with traditional natural images, remote sensing images (RSIs) typically have high resolution. The objects in the images are densely distributed, with heterogeneous orientation and large scale variation, even among objects of the same class. In recent years, object detection algorithms have made great strides in general images, but they are still difficult to meet the challenges that exist in RSIs. Therefore, we propose a foreground feature embedding network (FFE-Net) for object detection in RSIs. To better grasp the object features in RSIs, we design a foreground feature embedding module (FFEM) to learn the foreground features of the object. This is achieved by introducing an additional semantic segmentation branch and embedding the features in the classification and regression branches. Simultaneously, we propose a modified Gaussian function with focal loss (MGFFL) as a way to eliminate the extra background noise from soft labels, making the learned foreground features more robust. Our experimental results on two publicly available remote sensing image datasets, DOTA-v1.0 and HRSC2016, validate the effectiveness of FFE-Net. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The development of effective drug therapies is a complex and multifaceted problem involving various biological, chemical, and computational challenges. Traditional drug development methods are often time-consuming and costly, necessitating innovative approaches. Multi-objective genetic algorithms (MOGAs) have emerged as a powerful tool for optimizing drug design by simultaneously considering multiple conflicting objectives, such as efficacy, safety, and cost. This paper reviews the application of MOGAs in drug discovery, highlighting their principles, advantages, and case studies, and discussing future directions in the field. Enhancing MOGAs in drug discovery are also outlined, emphasizing the integration with machine learning, advancements in computational infrastructure, and the potential for personalized medicine. This paper investigates the wireless communication with a novel architecture of antenna arrays,termed modular extremely large-scale array(XLarray),where array elements of an extremely large number/size are regularly mounted on a shared platform with both horizontally and vertically interlaced *** module consists of a moderate/flexible number of array elements with the inter-element distance typically in the order of the signal wavelength,while different modules are separated by the relatively large inter-module distance for convenience of practical *** accurately modelling the signal amplitudes and phases,as well as projected apertures across all modular elements,we analyse the near-field signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)performance for modular XL-array *** on the non-uniform spherical wave(NUSW)modelling,the closed-form SNR expression is derived in terms of key system parameters,such as the overall modular array size,distances of adjacent modules along all dimensions,and the user's three-dimensional(3D)*** addition,with the number of modules in different dimensions increasing infinitely,the asymptotic SNR scaling laws are ***,we show that our proposed near-field modelling and performance analysis include the results for existing array architectures/modelling as special cases,e.g.,the collocated XL-array architecture,the uniform plane wave(UPW)based far-field modelling,and the modular extremely large-scale uniform linear array(XL-ULA)of *** simulation results are presented to validate our findings.
