Multi-agent Collaboration for Vehicular Task Offloading Using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) distributes resources such as computing, storage, and bandwidth to the side close to users, which can provide low-latency services to in-vehicle users, thus promising a more efficient and safer driving environment. However, due to the dynamic scale of vehicle and the variability of resource requirements, it is a significant challenge to quickly obtain effective task offloading in large-scale vehicle scenarios. The existing studies generally adopt the centralized decision-making method, with long decision-making time and high computational overhead, which cannot effectively achieve good offloading decisions in large-scale scenarios. To address these problems, we propose a Multi-agent Collaborative Method for vehicular task offloading using Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning called MCM-FDRL. First, each vehicle as an agent, independently makes offloading decisions based on local information. Next, the offloading decision model of each vehicle is obtained through federated reinforcement learning training. At runtime, an effective vehicle offloading plan can be gradually developed through multi-agent collaboration. Using two real-world datasets, experiments show that the MCM-FDRL has good adaptability and scalability. Moreover, compared to the state-of-the-art methods, the task's average response time of the MCM-FDRL is reduced by 9.75%-64.90%, respectively. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

With the development of wireless communication networks and basic technologies of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), UAVs have gradually become a major research hotspot in the field of wireless communications. UAVs can assist networks to expand their coverage and to increase capacity, and becomes a promising solution for the next-generation networks. However, UAV-assisted networks also face many challenges, such as, limited spectrum resources and backhaul capacity. In this paper, the effect of spectrum resource allocation on the achievable rate of the system is studied in the uplink data collection scenario where a multi-antenna UAV assists base station (BS) to collect data of user equipments (UEs). This paper considers the UAV is connected to the BS through a wireless backhaul link, and the backhaul link shares spectrum resources with the access network. By optimizing the allocation factor of spectrum resources between the wireless backhaul link of the UAV and the access network, the uplink achievable rate maximization problem is firstly formulated. Then, the approximation problem of the original optimization problem is proposed by using the large-dimensional random matrix theory, and the optimal solution is proposed. Finally, the simulation results verify the accuracy of the theoretical derivation and the validity of the optimal solution of the approximation problem. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Public opinion refers to the public attitudes and emotions of the masses on social phenomena. As one of the most popular micro-blogging platforms, Sina Weibo serves as an important public opinion carrier. Understanding the public opinion helps the government departments such as contingency management, public security, and other decision makers to timely understand the social situation, and actively resolve social conflicts and promote social harmony. On the other hand, related departments can also identify criminals from online public opinions and effectively crack down on them. With the technology advancing rapidly, it has become apparent that it is nearly impossible to go without a digital trace when committing a crime. Device such as Xiaomi wristband, keeps the record of a user’s daily activities, heart rate, pressure value, step count, and sleep quality. Due to daily use, these messages are valuable for digital forensic investigators as it may serve as evidence and proofs to a crime, as well as revealing the motives of crime. This paper will demonstrate some useful examples to investigators about the methods to extract and analyze smart watch using Bluetooth tools like Ubertooth One. Experiments about wireless sniffing and wired transmission are given in this paper. Invulnerability of communication networks directly related to security and reliability of networks has received increasing attention in recent years. In order to enhance the destruction resisting capacity of communication network, we propose a new invulnerability optimization method based on analog attack strategy and present an improved invulnerability measure with consideration of network connectivity and construction cost. The experimental simulations are conducted to construct four different optimized communication networks using analog attack strategy with different indicators of node centrality on the initial network respectively. Results demonstrate that the improved metric used to evaluate the economic benefits of network invulnerability is reasonable, and the proposed topology optimization method can improve the invulnerability of communication network. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Compared with rasterization rendering, ray tracing rendering can improve the image’s visual effect and make the image look more realistic. Real-time ray tracing requires very high computing power of graphics processing unit (GPU). When the number of GPUs is limited and the performance of a single GPU cannot be fully utilized, high rendering latency will occur. In this paper, we propose Multi-Queue Concurrent Pipeline Rendering (MQCPR), a novel ray-tracing parallel rendering scheme based on GPU multi-queue. This scheme divides the image area into multiple parts and uses multi-queue of GPU to enable the computation and transmission tasks in the rendering process to be executed simultaneously, which can maximize the performance of a single GPU and improve the graphics rendering speed. MQCPR may keep the GPU busy to make full use of the GPU resources. Experiments illustrate that in the case of a single GPU, compared with the single queue serial rendering scheme, the number of frames per second (FPS) is increased by 1.5 times after using MQCPR. © 2023 SPIE. MEAT: MEDIAN-ENSEMBLE ADVERSARIAL TRAINING FOR IMPROVING ROBUSTNESS AND GENERALIZATION

Self-ensemble adversarial training methods improve model robustness by ensembling models at different training epochs, such as model weight averaging (WA). However, previous research has shown that self-ensemble defense methods in adversarial training (AT) still suffer from robust overfitting, which severely affects the generalization performance. Empirically, in the late phases of training, the AT becomes more overfitting to the extent that the individuals for weight averaging also suffer from overfitting and produce anomalous weight values, which causes the self-ensemble model to continue to undergo robust overfitting due to the failure in removing the weight anomalies. To solve this problem, we aim to tackle the influence of outliers in the weight space in this work and propose an easy-to-operate and effective Median-Ensemble Adversarial Training (MEAT) method to solve the robust overfitting phenomenon existing in self-ensemble defense from the source by searching for the median of the historical model weights. Experimental results show that MEAT achieves the best robustness against the powerful AutoAttack and can effectively allievate the robust overfitting. We further demonstrate that most defense methods can improve robust generalization and robustness by combining with MEAT. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Addressing multiagent decision problems in AI, especially those involving collaborative or competitive agents acting concurrently in a partially observable and stochastic environment, remains a formidable challenge. While Interactive Dynamic Influence Diagrams (I-DIDs) have offered a promising decision framework for such problems, they encounter limitations when the subject agent encounters unknown behaviors exhibited by other agents that are not explicitly modeled within the I-DID. This can lead to sub-optimal responses from the subject agent. In this paper, we propose a novel data-driven approach that utilizes an encoder-decoder architecture, particularly a variational autoencoder, to enhance I-DID solutions. By integrating a perplexity-based tree loss function into the optimization algorithm of the variational autoencoder, coupled with the advantages of Zig-Zag One-Hot encoding and decoding, we generate potential behaviors of other agents within the I-DID that are more likely to contain their true behaviors, even from limited interactions. This new approach enables the subject agent to respond more appropriately to unknown behaviors, thus improving its decision quality. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in two well-established problem domains, highlighting its potential for handling multi-agent decision problems with unknown behaviors. In a database system, if the degree of concurrency is high, using a concurrency control algorithm alone will reduce the performance of the system, and the process of selecting a concurrency control algorithm will virtually improve the knowledge threshold of users. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a hybrid concurrency control algorithm, which is called cluster based concurrency control algorithm. It creatively puts forward the concept of transaction working set, uses the minimum hash algorithm to calculate the Jaccard similarity between different transaction working sets to measure the conflict rate between different transactions, and uses this as a standard to place transactions in different clusters, Transactions in the same cluster adopt pessimistic concurrency control algorithm, and transactions in different clusters adopt optimistic concurrency control algorithm. The clustering based concurrency control algorithm combines the traditional pessimistic concurrency control algorithm with the optimistic concurrency control algorithm to obtain the advantages of the two algorithms and alleviate the performance bottleneck of the two algorithms. A Comprehensive Study of OOP-Related Bugs in C++ Compilers

Modern C++, a programming language characterized by its extensive use of object-oriented programming (OOP) features, is widely used for system programming. However, C++ compilers often struggle to correctly handle these sophisticated OOP features, resulting in numerous high-profile compiler bugs that can lead to crashes or miscompilation. Despite the significance of OOP-related bugs, existing studies largely overlook OOP features, hindering their ability to discover such bugs. To assist both compiler fuzzer designers and compiler developers, we conduct a comprehensive study of the compiler bugs caused by incorrectly handling C++ OOP-related features. First, we systematically extract 788 OOP-related C++ compiler bugs from GCC and LLVM. Second, derived from the core concepts of OOP and C++, we manually identified a two-level taxonomy of the OOP-related features leading to compiler bugs, which consists of 6 primary categories (e.g., Abstraction & Encapsulation, Inheritance, and Runtime Polymorphism), along with 17 secondary categories (e.g., Constructors & Destructors and Multiple Inheritance). Third, we systematically analyze the root causes, symptoms, fixes, options, and C++ standard versions of these bugs. Our analysis yields 13 key findings, highlighting that features related to the construction and destruction of objects lead to the highest number of bugs, crashes are the most frequent symptom, and while the average time from bug introduction to discovery is 1856 days, fixing the bug once discovered takes only 174 days on average. Additionally, more than half of the bugs can be triggered without any compiler options. These findings offer valuable insights not only for developing new compiler testing approaches but also for improving language design and compiler engineering. Inspired by these findings, we developed a proof-of-concept compiler fuzzer OOPFuzz, specifically targeting OOP-related bugs in C++ compilers. We applied it against the newest release versions
