In this paper,we propose and numerically investigate a novel circular lattice photonic crystal fiber(CL-PCF)using controllable GeO_(2) doped silica,suitable for modes carrying quantized orbital angular momentum(OAM).Large effective index separations between 25 supported vector modes(≥10^(-4))are confirmed over large bandwidth(C+L bands)leading to 48 OAM modes bearing *** simulations show that the modes in the proposed CLPCF have good features including low and flat dispersion(within 51.82 ps/km/nm),low confinement loss(lower than 0.002 d B/m),high effective mode area(88.5μm^(2))and low nonlinearity(1.22 W^(-1)·km^(-1)).These promising results show that the proposed CL-PCF could be an arguably candidate in fiber-based OAM multiplexing or other applications using OAM states.

Nowadays,renewable energy has been emerging as the major source of energy and is driven by its aggressive expansion and falling *** of the renewable energy sources involve turbines and their operation and maintenance are vital and a difficult *** monitoring and fault diagnosis have seen remarkable and revolutionary up-gradation in approaches,practices and technology during the last *** mostly do use a rotating type of machinery and analysis of those signals has been challenging to localize the *** paper proposes a new hybrid model wherein multiple swarm intelligence models have been evaluated to optimize the conventional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)model in classifying the faults from the vibration signals data acquired from the *** helps to analyze the performance and behavioral patterns of the system more effectively and efficiently which helps to suggest for replacement of the unit with higher *** results have demonstrated that the proposed hybrid modeling approach is effective in classifying the faults of the gearbox from the time series data and achieve higher diagnostic accuracy in comparison to the conventional LSTM methods.

ECN marking has been integrated into datacenter switches to enable high-throughput and low-latency transport. We observe that current marking schemes are coarse-grained: they blindly mark all flows when congestion occurs, causing large flows to occupy undeserved bandwidth and preventing newly arriving small flows from finishing quickly. In this paper, we propose, a differential marking strategy that marks only the flows that are the culprits of congestion and protects the remaining flows from being limited. We have implemented it in the Barefoot Tofino switch and performed extensive evaluations via both physical testbed and large-scale simulations. The results show that can restrain flows responsible for congestion successfully while providing desirable network performance. For instance, compared to the legacy way of ECN marking, achieves up to 32.5% (40.1%) lower average (99th percentile) flow completion time (FCT) for small flows while delivering similar FCT for large flows under production workloads. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

Essential genes are indispensable for biological survival. Thus it is of great significance to identify and study essential genes. A machine learning method, K-Nearest Neighbor, is used for development of predicting essential bacterial genes. The homologous features, including sequence homology and functional homology, of the bacterial genomes are extracted for determining essential genes. Based on the features, we use K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm for determining of gene function. And we tune the minimum matching parameter (K) in the essential gene predicted model for building an optimal model of the Escherichia coli specificity model. The corresponding optimal parameter (K) is then extended to other bacterial essential genes predicting models. After cross validation, the highest accuracy is 0.89 while K between 5 and 7. Therefore, the features we extracted can increase the accuracy of the bacterial essential gene prediction. In the premise, we found that the prediction accuracy of the prediction model based on K-Nearest Neighbor was not significantly different in different evolutionary distances between organisms in the database and the investigated species. That means the machine learning model can be extended to more distant species. It wills have a better predictive performance for predicting essential genes of distant species than the usual sequence-based methods. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Two-Phase Channel Estimation for RIS-Assisted THz Systems with Beam Split

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted terahertz (THz) communication is emerging as a key technology to support ultra-high data rates in future sixth-generation networks. However, the acquisition of accurate channel state information (CSI) in such systems is challenging due to the passive nature of RIS and the hybrid beamforming architecture typically employed in THz systems. To address these challenges, we propose a novel low-complexity two-phase channel estimation scheme for RIS-assisted THz systems with beam split effect. In the proposed scheme, we first estimate the full CSI over a small subset of subcarriers, then extract angular information at both the base station and RIS. Subsequently, we recover the full CSI across remaining subcarriers by determining the corresponding spatial directions and angle-excluded coefficients. Theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior performance in terms of normalized mean-square error while significantly reducing computational complexity compared to existing algorithms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role in modern medical diagnosis yet is often hindered by the long imaging time. MRI imaging can be accelerated through undersampling, but the introduced aliasing artifacts should be removed during image reconstruction. While deep learning reconstruction methods excel at image de-aliasing, they may yield suboptimal results when training sampling settings differ from those at the time of reconstruction. To decouple from specific sampling settings, we propose using synthetic data to generate a substantial training dataset and pre-train a 1D deep denoiser. We then integrate the trained deep denoiser into the iterative reconstruction process as a replacement for the approximation operator within the deep plug-and-play framework. In vivo results indicate that the proposed method exhibits robust and visually appealing image reconstruction when there is a mismatch between the training and reconstruction undersampling settings, such as different undersampling patterns and sampling rates.

Distinguishing the manifestations of pulmonary nodules poses a significant challenge in the medical field, demanding the expertise of experienced radiologists. This complexity results in the high cost and inadequacy of sample labeling. In response, this study introduces a reinforcement learning approach, denoted as TriCaps-RL, for the classification of pulmonary nodules based on CT signs. This approach initially employs the Q-value loss to train a single CapsNet. When the performance of the CapsNet plateaus and further enhancement becomes challenging, the loss function is progressively replaced by a triplet metric to augment performance. Consequently, a more nuanced differentiation among various types of pulmonary nodules is achieved. The proposed method can improve its performance through interactions with radiologists during their CT image reading process, thereby mitigating the shortage of radiologists and addressing the time-consuming issue of training sample labeling in medical image research. This paper delves into the fine-grained classification of pulmonary nodules using deep reinforcement learning based on CT imaging signs. In comparison to previous studies that primarily concentrate on the benign/malignant classification of lung nodules, this fine-grained classification of nodules founded on CT imaging signs proves to be more valuable for medical practitioners in making accurate diagnostic decisions. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. RE-POSE: Synergizing Reinforcement Learning-Based Partitioning and Offloading for Edge Object Detection

Object detection plays a crucial role in smart video analysis, with applications ranging from autonomous driving and security to smart cities. However, achieving real-time object detection on edge devices presents significant challenges due to their limited computational resources and the high demands of deep neural network (DNN)-based detection models, particularly when processing high-resolution video. Conventional strategies, such as input down-sampling and network up-scaling, often compromise detection accuracy for faster performance or lead to higher inference latency. To address these issues, this paper introduces RE-POSE, a Reinforcement Learning (RL)Driven Partitioning and Edge Offloading framework designed to optimize the accuracy-latency trade-off in resource-constrained edge environments. Our approach features an RL-Based Dynamic Clustering Algorithm (RL-DCA) that partitions video frames into non-uniform blocks based on object distribution and the computational characteristics of DNNs. Furthermore, a parallel edge offloading scheme is implemented to distribute these blocks across multiple edge servers for concurrent processing. Experimental evaluations show that RE-POSE significantly enhances detection accuracy and reduces inference latency, surpassing existing methods. © 2025, CC BY.

The x ad hoc network (xANET) termed as a family of ad hoc networks, including mobile ad hoc network (MANET), vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), flying ad hoc network (FANET) and satellite ad hoc network (SANET), has found a wide range of applications in providing ubiquitous wireless services. Despite its broad utility, the dynamic nature and lack of a centralized controller pose significant challenges to effective and flexible network management for xANET. Conventional network management protocols face challenges such as scalability, security vulnerabilities, configuration complexity, robustness, and performance resilience. Recent efforts have presented different approaches, focusing on policy-based network management (PBNM) and intent-driven network management (IDNM). However, there is no comprehensive survey to clarify their concepts and classifications. This paper presents a survey of the network management evolution for xANET, covering configuration-based, policy-based and the latest intent-driven approaches. We first introduce the characteristics and applications of xANET. Meanwhile, we investigate the network management concepts and challenges. Moreover, we survey the evolution of management protocols for xANET, including simple network management protocol (SNMP), PBNM, and IDNM. Then, we follow the detailed network management of xANET from configuration-based to policy-based and intent-driven approaches. Through comparative analysis, it is found that IDNM employs a more intelligent management protocol, demonstrating higher efficiency and flexibility in handling complex tasks and dynamic network management. This makes it better suited to addressing the challenges of xANET management. Finally, we summarize the remaining challenges and possible future research directions. © 2025 IEEE.

NMR Spectra Denoising with Vandermonde Constraints

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy serves as an important tool to analyze chemicals and proteins in bioengineering. However, NMR signals are easily contaminated by noise during the data acquisition, which can affect subsequent quantitative analysis. Therefore, denoising NMR signals has been a long-time concern. In this work, we propose an optimization model-based iterative denoising method, CHORD-V, by treating the time-domain NMR signal as damped exponentials and maintaining the exponential signal form with a Vandermonde factorization. Results on both synthetic and realistic NMR data show that CHORD-V has a superior denoising performance over typical Cadzow and rQRd methods, and the state-of-the-art CHORD method. CHORD-V restores low-intensity spectral peaks more accurately, especially when the noise is relatively high. © 2023, CC BY.
